24 hours travel and cramped seats vs. 7-8 hours direct at triple the price… Almost tempting.
    Incredible price.

    • Direct? It'd be via SIN or KUL I'd have thought…

      • From Perth it's direct with Air Mauritius.

        • Don't mind my retardation, I was confused with Maldives…night shift will do that to ya!

Also, never knew Air Mauritius serviced Perth, wonder if they'll use their new A350s when they come online?

        • +1

@Sir Casm: hope so, their old planes are very "tired" and uncomfortable. Perth is their hub now for Australian flights. They used to fly direct from Sydney, but not anymore.

    • and theres also South African airlines ex Perth.

      • Yeah, but it's not direct. There's a few options, but air Mauritius is the only direct (and most expensive) option. Crazily overpriced.

        • Well i guess thats the reason why they can command their own prices - being the only direct service. I mean myself, I would compromise going via a route which has more competition - eg to South africa and then transit across. save money but the tradeoff is time.

        • @lifethroughthelens: Their monopoly is protected by the Mauritius Government, as far as I know. Otherwise nobody would use them, as the service is nothing to write home about.

Anyone been there? I'm interested and it looks nice there. Never spoken to anyone that's been there before so I'm intrigued

    • A bit pricey.

      • +4

not really.. depends maybe on accommodation if you stay nice places but thats everywhere.

definitely worth.. i'm actually considering getting these

I spent a week there in October after i got a $69 AirAsia fare from KL, couldn't backpack as no real hostels so hired an apartment for about $60 a night in Flic En Flac, nothing flash.

When i go back ill stay more north or South, It was alot cheaper to travel then i thought in terms of food, alcohol and transport

Awesome place to relax, be safe and value for money.

      good place to go.
stayed in resort. was very good food.
theres a reef to snorkel which is good

I'm almost set on going for my honeymoon here in October so I'm also interested in feedback from anyone who has been there.

      • Great place, but avoid tourist hotspots or you will be charged in Euros. High end hotels expensive.

        • How did it compare to the beaches along our west coast? More in terms of relaxation, water and environment. Not the resorts, food etc.

        • @OldBugger: clean beaches in general. There are catamaran daytrips to visit nearby islands with pristine beaches, which I would highly recommend. The nearby island Rodrigues is also perfect for laid back relaxation.

It's beautiful, but there's better places you can visit with that kind of budget before you go to Mauritius.

That being said, this is a pretty damn good deal.

    • have been to Maldives for my honeymoon 6 years ago, and to Mauritius this year.

Maldives is significantly better, but you can have a great time at Mauritius also.

      Very different

I bought 2 tickets for about $1600 inc baggage for two and some food, leaving on Easter Friday when Air Asia first released these fares. I'm very excited planning my trip and these are great fares!!! Jump on it, buy some cheap lounge access for KLIA to kill stopover time and just go for it. It looks amazing :)

    • Does it stop-over at KLIA or the smaller regional airport?

      • KLIA-2

      • "Smaller regional airport" - no such thing. The concentration camp that was the LCCT has been closed & the new KLIA2 aka the new LCCT is open, and connected to the main/original airport via train (runs frequently & takes about 5 min).

        • He may of been referring to Subang Airport/Skypark, but possibly not because its obvious a A330 would not land there lol.

        • @davohatcher:

Possibly, but I thought that's GA only?

Edit: I see it's regional ops also

        • Good to hear! I was referring to the secondary airport hosting AirAsia flights.. but it's been a good couple of years since I last flown with this carrier.

        • @Sydgun:

I did a couple of times but vowed never again, well at least until when (if?) they service Brisbane.

      • KLIA2, plenty of shopping, eating and lounges! I will be buying some from Dragon society (? Its on ozbargain somewhere) and using them for the long stopover on the way back. I have also paid for the chance of 'empty seat option' with Optiontown and praying for some space on the overnight flights.
The old LCCT terminal was total shit but it has much improved just be careful u have to walk veeeeeery far from the shopping center bit to the gate so don't leave it too late like I did and miss your flight…

Have a great trip and let us know your thoughts on Mauritius!
Remember to pack some Binoculars; hopefully it'll help you spot a souvenir of floating debris from MH370 ;)

      • Haha wasn't that on Reunion and Madagascar? Unfortunately I'm 'only' going for 2 weeks so couldn't squeeze in a side trip to Reunion but there's plenty to do on Mauritius anyway so maybe next time! I read if you like hiking then definitely fit in Reunion :)

  • Got all excited but I need flights the other way round : ex mtius to Melb :(

    • +3

What dates are you looking at? Found some dates for $300 MRU - MELB one way

      • 1st week of Feb and planning to return mid-to-late April. I'm pretty flexible with the return date.

        • +1

Unfortunately that is outside the promo period :(

Very nice place to go. I've been twice and will continue to go for as long as I'm able to.

Mix of French, Indian, African and Chinese cultures.
    The food is extremely tasty.
So much to do, a week is probably a bit short for me, I like to spend 4-5 weeks there at a time. Grab this deal as the fares are great!

    • +7

No, thanks. I've got the same mix in Waitara NSW.

  • Never flown AirAsia. Given the price I'm not expecting anything fancy, but is it bearable for approximately 12 hours of flying?

Will be travelling here for my honeymoon so want something half decent.

    • +1

Air Asia flights are similar to Jetstar and Tigerair, it might be worth paying for the legroom. My tip would be to sleep for as much as the flight as possible.

      • +1

Thanks. For the date I want it's a 6 hour flight to KL, stopover for 12 hours and then another 6 hour flight to Mauritius. Since the stopover is overnight I could always get a cheap hotel at the airport to crash for a few hours before taking off.

  • +1

Thanks, I'll be sure to pop a visit to jarjarbinks and co.

  • Depart 28 Aug
    Return 2 Sep

You spend almost as much time commuting to/from the airport, going through customs and on the planes as you do actually enjoying a "holiday"

These IWTF "deals" are becoming very spammy

  • I got the flights I want for my family of 3. Added some luggage. But BASIC seat selection on airasia will be $232 for us.

  • +1

Just got an email from air asia advising that all flights to and from Mauritius will be suspended from the 25th of March :(

  • +1

Me to for travel in Sept. And booked a great deal at the Hilton there…conditional on no cancellations/no refunds. Airasia will refund the ticket cost I presume, but there is still $1K for the hotel. Have travel insurance, checked it covers airline cancellations due unforeseen mechanical/riots/blah/blah, but not due withdrawn service. Is airasia liable for my consequential loss?

    • +1

I am also trying to find out. Devastated. Flights there are way longer and will be about $1500+ to replace. Not sure what to do as I also have unrefundable bookings.

  • +1

I have rebooked flights for double the price and much longer through Flight Center as they have price beat for Flight365.com (and byo and bestjet). I will be making a claim through 1cover under the alternate transport section and will see if they pay or not. So instead of being about $880, its 5 hours longer each way, landing 1 day earlier for about $1546 with full service airlines not Air Asia (MAS and Air Mauritius).
I'm never buying a new route on Air Asia again, it has to be established and running for a few years before I will purchase again, because this is the SECOND time this has happened to me. I was also affected by the MEL-DPS direct route cancellation, although that time it worked in my favour because I was able to move it to an earlier flight which suited me better and I did not lose out on anything. This second time however is extremely inconvenient.

    • That's commitment!

    • would you let us know your result with 1Cover please?

  • Here we go again
