COMMIT20

Just saw this on the MSY website.

Actually makes the Z270 Gaming 5/7 motherboards a pretty good buy.

Sad I didn't see it earlier and already purchased a board and ssd separately.

The SSD's worth $129 @ staticice.

Cheapest board is Z270 Gaming 5 @ $325.

Essentially a high-end board < $200.

Thanks Rapt0r

  • Hmmm..

Tempted but 600p isn't the best, and 256GB is not enough for me.

    • Should be enough for a boot drive + apps.

Would be better if you could upgrade it to a 512GB.

  • How many M.2 slots on the new z270?

Oh wow, that's an amazing deal.

Thanks, now I'm really going to cry in a corner.

      A mid-range board with 6 phases cost around 160-170 for z170.

It'd basically be a high end board at mid price

      • +2

If the 256GB 600p was precisely the SSD you were seeking. In my case I'd be looking for someone to give it to. Except everyone I know has older rigs pre-m.2.

A gaming board is aimed at someone who's going to spend more cash though. And that person would probably desire a bigger or faster m.2 SSD.

Not saying the deal is bad in value, but the choice of freebie is a bit suboptimal considering the market these gaming boards are targeting. I would be happier with a cashback so I can buy an SSD more suited to my needs or a voucher that goes towards some other gaming peripheral.

There's also the thing about the redemption process taking up to 21 days (7 to process and 14 to deliver plus an additional 8 for CNY — had no idea chinese companies take 8 days off during CNY). After you've purchased your rig, are you going to wait up to 21+8 days for your new SSD to arrive before installing Windows on it? Or are you going to temporarily install it to a mechanical HDD and then reinstall Windows when the SSD arrives? Or are you going to buy your own SSD and put the 600p in the drawer?

Yeah a cashback would be better. I'd buy my own SSD of choice at the same time I buy the board, and get reimbursed later. Even if it was just a credit that had to be redeemed at the Intel store would be ok.

        • Most redemption processes can take up to 30days anyways. I would just install the OS any other things go onto a normal ssd, then when thever free ssd apprives, ghost it over.

        • @BlitzR: They could have had some kind of immediate redemption deal at the same retailer. This would be rare, especially for an item of this value, but it's doable. If you try to return the M/B, you must return the SSD also in brand new condition or it's not refundable.

This is still a freebie and would be good if you wanted the 600p to begin with. But I'm not seeing anything special about this board that justifies the premium. It has fewer USB slots than the cheaper boards. What makes it a "gaming" board?

  • +2

Pretty these terms are illegal, MSI will now join MSY at the Federal Court.

"Once the model box has been cut and the claim on the SSD approved, the user will be prohibited from returning the board to the place of purchase for exchange or refund. However, the user’s MSI manufacturer warranty will remain intact for the full warranty period."

    • +1

      That's interesting. I hadn't thought about that.

I can see why they wouldn't let you go back to retailer for exchange if faulty.. you could get a new barcode and redeem another 600p. It does mean you have to do warranty directly with MSI which might complicate things. Synnex and Ingram aren't going to deal with you, so you'd have to ship it back to MSI at your expense.

I'm not sure about the legality of forbidding a customer to return to the retailer for warranty or refund. But I can certainly see why MSI wants it this way. I just think it's not a well thought out promotion if it leads to this. What they should have done is make the redemption process take a while just like cashrewards, to make sure you didn't get it refunded or exchanged.

bugger would have jumped on this if zen wasnt so close to release really keen to see how that peforms before i invest in an upgrade (currently running a i7 920)

    • Is Zen AMD's attempt to match Intel pound for pound? Because they haven't competed on horsepower in a long time now. This applies to both fronts, GPUs and CPUs. It's led to some uninspired offerings from Intel and for a while, nVidia.

      • Based purely on what amd are claiming (which could all be bs they have done this in the past) its very bloody close with intels offerings all the tests that have been shown are with a 8 core cpu against the intel 6900k and they are near identical in most tests. ALso vega there new gpu's are looking very promising though again this has only been shown off in doom (a very amd optimised title) its looking about 10% better then the gtx 1080 and is set to be released some time before june. Anyway AMD seems to have some decent offerings coming up and iim keen to see what they can do on the cpu side of thigns before i go out an buy a new cpu (there cpu's are set to be released feb-march)

  • Is it worth the extra to get the M7?

    • -1

If you have to ask, probably not in your case :)

  • -4

the ssd is worthless imo,,, and you need a new gen cpu too, Intel droped the ball

  • -1

Almost $400 for a 2nd tier manufacturer motherboard, no thanks…

  • This seems like a great deal.

I am planning to build a 7700k system in April, what does everyone think the chances of a better deal on a Z270 board are before then?

    • For a high-end 11 phase board, I don't think there will be a better deal in the near future or ever.

If the SSD size is right for you and you were intending to spend money on a 250gb~ ssd.

This deal is unbeatable. Taking the SSD price as $100 (assuming discounted), this is a 11 phase board for $200.

Generally around the $150-200 price range, Z series have 6~ phases

This was the only review I could find:
      http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/msi-z270-gaming-m5-intel…

      • Thanks, bit the bullet and got an M7

  • I've been borderline sitting on this purchase as I'm doing some research. There's not of info out there just yet.

I'm leaning towards the M5 (not much difference with the M7 - a screenshot at the bottom for your comparison).

The M.2 SSD is the sweetener, it's not my preferred SSD but it's still better than the SSD Gen3's.

I'm only looking to stick a 6700k in there, no need to go to 7700k in my opinion..very little upside for what it is after all the benchmarks have been released by I think the chip. The other thing is that it's the 1st Gen for Z270 chipsets, and there might be issues and irritations =/

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

Received item and redeemed product via their website. I'll let you know how long it takes guys.

        • @SpotTheOzzie: thanks for sharing the config, I am building my pc for the first time, but facing some issue as I am new to this.

I have M7 motherboard and there are 2 cpu power connection, one 8 pin and other 4 pin. ny psu Corsair RM750i just came with 8 pin connector. do we really need the 4 pin connector as well or 8 pin will do the job.

        • @tinku:

Not sure sorry :( If you go to Reddit - BuildAPc subreddit they'll tell you straight away. Or just test it with 8 =/

        • +1

@SpotTheOzzie: thanks mate, I went around couple of websites and found that you can use just the 8 pin connection and it works fine. 4 pin connection is optional.

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

Any sign of your ssd mate? My redemption was approved on the 21st, but haven't been informed of anything since.

        • @wem77:

Not yet :) Will keep an eye out though :O

        • @SpotTheOzzie:
Good stuff! Fingers crossed it's soon!

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

Just arrived this morning by courier!

        • @wem77:

I have received mine just yet but I have bought two components for my build:

          Computer Parts:

          Intel I7 7700k for $479.20 - https://vod.ebay.com.au/vod/FetchOrderDetails?transid=836821…

          G.SKILL TRIDENT Z SILVER RED 16GB(8GBX2)3200MHZ DDR4 DESKTOP RAM for $167.20 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/G-Skill-Trident-Z-Silver-Red-16GB…?

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

Would you suggest that Ram? Also couldn't get that i7 link working.

        • @wem77:

          7700k working link:

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-Processor-8MB…

Basically these pieces are part of the CATCH20 sale and are cheaper on staticice. The ram I was set on with the Ripjaws V, but they didn't have it at the clock speed I wanted and the Trident Z is basically the brother version. Highly recommend but always DYR.

I also bought my PSU AX860i with the CATCH20 discount.

I only have the case to buy as well as the cooler and I'm good to go now :)

        • @wem77:

Out of curiosity, did they give you a tracking number or any notification it was being shipped besides the approval email? I was hoping to take the day off work to put my PC together, but the present state of m.2 limbo isn't great for scheduling.

        • @veetor:

Yeah zero tracking numbers or any shipping notifications. Just arrived all of a sudden last friday. Real lucky because I flew out to Tokyo Saturday morning. And I'm sure the courier would've just left it in the mailbox to be nicked while I'm away.

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

Man if only Futu hadn't raised the prices on the 7700k - would've been low 400's. The price you nabbed it for is good too though. Even here in Tokyo the price is hovering around the early 500's.

Sounds like you're piecing together a pretty killer pc though!

        • @wem77:

Ah, thanks! Didn't realise you were in Japan at the moment. If you're still looking for a 1080, hit up NTT-X or Nexus Computer for a really cheap card.

        • @veetor:
Oh wow, that's cheap. Thanks for linking that. Do you know anything about that brand of 1080? Reputable?

        • @wem77:

There doesn't seem to be much information about it - I think it's pretty much a reference board. Company seems to be very much a no-frills operation - it's a subsdiary of Buffalo. I can see the card apparently retailed for 91800 yen previously.

I'm expecting mine to arrive next week hopefully along with the M.2 drive, so I'll see how it goes one my computer's up and running.

        • @wem77:

It's been two weeks since I received my confirmation email and no parcel yet :(

Think I'll send them a quick email tomorrow.

I'm building the PC as I make gaming videos on youtube :)

        • @veetor:
Awesome, cheers for that. Hope everything works out well for your build! : )

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

Could be a Chinese new year related delay?

  • Ebay Checkout the code COMMIT20 is not working?

  • Working fine here. Came up $295.20 for me!

    • At that price I would double check you didnt accidentally order the Z170

  • -1

    ignore.

  • Has anyone been able to register their motherboard for the SSD? I can't seem to find the correct promotions page on the MSI site.

  • Thanks for that dude. Couldn't find the correct promotion originally but the link helped. Cheers : )

  • The promotion is available for limited time or while stocks last.

This line here confuses me. "While stocks last". Are they referring to stocks of the 600p or M5? If the 600p, how do we know if stocks are still available?

    • I understood it to mean the 600P. "Stocks are limited per participating dealer; please contact the dealer to ensure availability." - but I have to question if the retailer is aware of how many redemptions they've had for their store. Maybe they'd guess based on M5s and M7s sold?

      • Is the 600p sent by MSI or by the place you bought the motherboard from?

I don't see why the retailer would be the one to give you a 600p, otherwise stock levels at time of purchase won't reflect stock levels at time of redemption processing. There'd be no way of knowing whether they will have stock or not when time comes to send it out.

        • Mine just arrived. Sent directly by MSI.

        • @wem77: How long did you end up waiting from day of application?

        • @lostn:
About 14 days from the day I signed up for it.

        • @wem77: Did you wait for the SSD to arrive before you built the system and installed Windows?

        • @wem77: I had my application approved an hour after I submitted it. Did that happen to you?

        • @lostn:

I'm just collecting parts at the moment, so haven't built anything yet. And yup, it probably was approved in around 1-2 hours.

        • @wem77: What pieces are you waiting on? I'm the same as you.

I'm waiting on a graphics card from Amazon and a 960 Pro from Amazon UK. I'm not sure what I'll do with this 600p. I don't need it and there's no one I can give it to because they don't have m.2.

        • @lostn:

Yeah going with a 7700k - waiting / hope for sub 450. Maybe I'll be waiting a while haha.
          Either 1080 or 1070.
          NZXT S340 Elite
          Noctua D-15
Maybe a 960 Pro SSD as well.
No idea on PSU yet. Something cheap / realiable.

Can't you just chuck the 600p into the second .m2 slot?

        • @wem77:

Can't you just chuck the 600p into the second .m2 slot?

You can, but it will use up 4 Pcie lanes which I'd rather not use up. All I'd be getting is a 256GB drive that I won't even be booting from or installing apps on, so it will just be a meager piece of storage taking up resources.

Yeah going with a 7700k - waiting / hope for sub 450. Maybe I'll be waiting a while haha.

It was not far off from that during Amazon UK double 10 GBP one day sale. You could get 20 GBP off if you were lucky, and it was already discounted from RRP. That was the day I got my 7600k, except I regret that I did not go for the 7700k. I thought like previous years, the hyperthreading would not do much for gaming, but in the latest benchmarks, there was up to 50% increase in fps through the 7700k.

I started getting parts for this system nearly a year ago from various sales. Got a windows white/gold limited edition Define R5 case the other day. All I'm waiting on now is my GTX1070 Gaming X (good price from Futu atm) and the 960 Pro 512GB.

        • @lostn:

Ahh, yeah good point. Think I might chuck mine in and use it until I save up for an EVO later.

Wow, 50% significant. Although Intel are readying new ( 100mhz higher clocked ) chips to compete with ryzen, so there's always new chips coming out. Gotta jump in at some point I suppose.
I'm thinking of that 1070 as well. What price did you get it for from Futu? Define R5 looks real nice too. Love minimalist cases.

  • Is this still current? On the MSI website it states:

"User shall claim the redemption after 10 days of your purchase date, otherwise the redemption will be considered void."

    Promotion date:

    "Special offer: During 2017.1.5 - 2017.1.27 12:00pm.(GMT+0)"

I'm interested but want to make sure I'm eligible.

    • You have to have purchased it during the offer period, which ended 10th of Feb. But you have until Feb 17 to redeem it. It does not have to be redeemed within the offer period as long as your invoice shows the date of purchase and that date fell within the offer period.

At the time you posted this, it was still eligible, but if you didn't purchase it, it is no longer valid.

      • The expiry date I found in my original post was actually for a different region. It looks like the promotion ran a little longer for Aussies. I purchased the board and redeemed the SSD.

        Thanks

        • What date did you purchase and redeem? i purchased on the 9th and received today and redeemed, but not sure if i was successful… The pop up box, after the complete registration and redemption process said, ""The gift has been fully redeemed, thank you for your support"

Not sure if that means i redeemed it, or they are all redeemed already and i missed out….

        • @haitim01:

          Received the drive today!

I was a little worried that I may have missed out so I called up MSI after submitting my redemption. They mentioned they had new stock allocations to fulfill the promotion. Keep your fingers crossed.

  • Has anyone who has successfully claimed the above SSD got any tips how to make MSI accept my registration of the MSI Z270 Gaming 5 motherboard

I am unable to register the Z270 GAMING M5 motherboard bought in Australia on the 2017.2.10
I keep receiving "Verification failed: empty hardware number"
Very frustrating as I need to redeem the offer by 2017.2.17

Any help would be much appreciated

    • Just follow their instructions. There's two serial numbers you have to give them. They show you where to locate them.

  • Did anyone receive any sort of email confirmation when applying for the bonus ssd? I received a confirmation email for my game code for Honor but nothing for my motherboard.

    • An hour after applying I got an email confirmation about the gift. I didn't get anything about a game code. Are you sure that wasn't for your graphics card?

      • Hmm, that is very worrying. Yes there is a game bonus for the motherboard too and I received the code the following day.

        • Can you link to that promo?
