Here's a decent review:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/manfrotto-pixi-mini-review

PIXI has a minimal Italian style and is manufactured from stainless steel and Adapto for high quality and a tactile finish. With this solid construction, it provides a secure base in every situation and the rubber feet guarantee a stable and slip-free purchase on any surface.

DSLR Compatibility
Thanks to the universal ¼” screw thread and the excellent stability, PIXI can be used with a huge variety of digital devices; the iPhone® (with KLYP), compact cameras, CSC’s and even entry level DSLR’s.

PIXI has been developed for entry level DSLRs fitting these basic requirements:
• Body: maximum weight of 650g/1.4lbs
• Focal length: maximum 85mm (standard non-professional lens)
• Total equipment payload: maximum 1kg/2.2lbs

    • I was going to bite on a cheap ebay tripod however after further reading/research I found there are huge discreperancies between a 'good/expensive' and 'bad/cheap' tripod.

To quote Paddles from whirlpool (although more a reference to a full sized tripod):

This is a common question – and the answer is that they don't exist. A $50 tripod is useless, particularly for an SLR, because it will move enough even in just a light breeze to blur your photos. And the last thing you need on an overseas trip is to be carting around a tripod that doesn't actually do what you need.

This forum is full of people (including me) who made the mistake of buying a cheap tripod and then had to go back and buy a tripod that works, and who don't want to see other people waste their money in the same way.

If you really can't spend the money for a proper tripod, don't buy one at all – search the web for information about improvised tripods or the "string tripod".

Would you put a expensive camera on a cheap piece of plastic and expect it support your camera?

      I sure as hell wouldnt.

Manfrotto makes good quality stuff. You get what you pay for.

    This or a gorillapod?

    • +1

I have a Gorillapod and it has its uses. I have managed to support an action cam on a round fluted column with the Gorillapod.

      • When using on a flat surface, is it easy to adjust the legs back so that it's actually a straight photo? I fear I would always have a bend in one and everything would be wonky. Though I guess the point is it can be adjusted to straight when the surface is wonky… (ignore my rambles!)

        • It can be adjusted, but not as fast as the Pixi. The 3 legs will be wonky and won't ever be perfectly straight once you start playing with it.

    • GorillaPod can't hold a larger dslr, whereas this can. GorillaPod is for GoPros and similar to be used in odd situations. This is for professional photographers to get low angle shots and such, whereas standard tripod can't be used.

Gorillapods comes in different sizes and can support DSLRs. http://www.wexphotographic.com/webcontent/images/brand/joby/…

      • lol. gorillapod have different sizes for different needs. just letting you know. i have one for my iphone and the sturdy one that can hold up to 5kgs for my dlsr with telephoto lens.

i dare say this cant hold many DSLR's either

        Body: maximum weight of 650g/1.4lbs

  • Mind you there is a newer version :

  • i currently have the pixi evo (2nd gen of this). after watching the reviews and improvements over the 1st gen, no regrets buying the 2nd gen. main thing i like about the 2nd gen is how low it can get.
i don't have a dslr connected to it, but my sony rx100v works well. the mount screw is easy, can do with one hand
