Does this have an AU plug?

    • +2

Sorry only an EU plug, but it takes a standard AU Figure 8 IEC-C7 cable.

      • Do you know if all the Tronsmart chargers sold by Geekbuying use this cable? Want to make sure before I go for one of the smaller ones, since only the 54w qc 2.0 one seems to be advertised with an AU plug.

        • All 5 ports including the Titan use a Figure 8 cable. Other chargers like this have a visible plug.

        • @Clear: Great, ty.

      • if we need to buy an AU cable locally they are $5

  • I'd be surprised if this actually quick charges the iPad Pro 12.9. All other chargers with PD don't work. Only the official Apple charger with USB-C and an Apple USB-C to lightning cable.

    • +1

Hmm. I'll take it out of the description just in case.

      • You might need to take out the Nexus 5X/6P as well, as they use Volt-IQ, and need 5V/3A.
By your own spec's, this charger only does 5V/2.4A for Volt-IQ so I don't think it would charge at full speed.

        • Sure if you use a USB A to USB C. If you use a USB C to USB C cable then you'll get 5V/3A.

My description specifically mentions what is using USB C/PD and VoltIQ.

  • Is it possible to buy an Australian Standards approved version of these?

    • +3

Different brand (Anker) but similar product, this might be your best bet:
      https://www.cablegeek.com.au/shop/power/chargers/anker-power…

      • +1

        The Anker one does 5V/3A [15W], 9V/3A [27W] and 15V/3A [45W].

        This Tronsmart one does 5V/3A [15W], 9V/3A [27W] and 15V/2A [30W].

    • Is it possible to buy an Australian Standards approved version of these?

What is so special about the Australian Standards over all the other standards?

For example the Anker one is identical aside from a sticker showing Australian compliance and buying it from China will save you at least 50%.

      • +1

When a complied charger explodes and burns down your house your insurance still covers you.

      • For example the Anker one is identical

Looks superfically similar but the case is different and there's clearly different spacing between the type C port and type A ports. Not safe to presume they're the same until there's teardown to confirm it (same would apply even if they looked identical - consider the fake charger market, which relies on assumptions based on external apperance).

        • Looks superfically similar but the case is different and there's clearly different spacing between the type C port and type A ports.

I'm not comparing the tronsmart and the Anker but the Australian sold Anker with the one from China which is identical in all respects aside from a small sticker.

        • to get the tick compliance they have to get it done by an authority and it includes insulation tests, spike tests, etc. This costs money (thousands of dollars) and they might not think it worth it …. hence no AU cable version. Some of the other tests are just as thorough that they do to comply with other countries.

Doesn't mean it will burn your house down BUT some people like the certainty.

Arching on the supplied travel adapters are more likely to cause a fire, hence in some corporate and gov offices you can't use the US or EU cord and a travel adapter and need the right cord.

It's a bigger issue if you are selling no compliant electrical devices in Australia, you get fined …. they clamped down for a short time after the house fire caused by USB charger and they were raiding the $2 shops for chargers. Chargers, phones, curtains, carpet …. bad combinations ….

Even with the hover boards burning down houses, they made a big deal about compliance …… wasn't the chargers causing the fires …. it was the lithium batteries exploding, so even tick compliance wouldn't have stopped those fires.

      And much slower as it's only USB-C (5V/3A) and 35W. The Tronsmart is USB-C PD (5V/3A 9V/3A 15V/2A) and 60W total.

I would think VERY HARD before buying anything from GB. They have ZERO customer service and chances are items won't be in stock. They took my payment 3 weeks ago and never to be heard from them again. Have been trying all sorts of avenues (including the rep here) but no luck. So just be WARNED.

    • 3 weeks …. i allow min 4 weeks if you use the free postage….and people rarely pay more for faster postage…. we want our cake and eat it too.
i've had no problems but then i usually order stuff before i need it so slow delivery isn't a problem.

      • -1

Item not even shipped after 3 weeks.

        • my raspberry pi shipped after 4 weeks BUT they sent it via express and tracking and arrived a week after they sent me the email …… and that was over outr christmas period and that was with free postage….. upgrade the postage for free and I didn't even ask for it …….they do try ……. and for the bad experiences there are 100's of thousands of good ones, or they would be out of business.

sure we will hear complaints as people forget it's chinese new year coming up ….. and where is my stuff

        • @garage sale
that's great for you. My item is out of sstock

    • I beleive if you look at previous posts for this item, people have reported noise Frome the switch mode transfer.

This is the first time this charger has been posted.

  • compatible with HP Spectre x2?

    is there a good charger with a rating of USB-PD : 15V/3A (45W)?

  • Any idea how fast this would charge the Google Pixel LS? I have a phone charger at work that I use to slow charge it, but this might be a better option!

    • With this charger the Pixel will be able to charge at 5V/3A and up to 9V/2A. Some people have reported 50% in 25 minutes but I'd have to research it more.

    • +1

batteries get hotter on the fast charge ….. i use fast if phone is flat and i need some juice in it but normally i slow charge as the phone stays cooler and it's better for the battery.

      • by slow charge, it doesn't actually charge the laptop (Pixel LS) it just slows the discharge of the laptop.

  • Clear do you have any coupons for the Vorke V1?

  • +1

Does anyone have any idea how this thing would charge a 13" MacBook Pro? How would it compare to the standard charger. Would be nice to only one of these and not two seperate devices.

  • Waiting for a deal on Tronsmart QC3, 5 port.

    • i think for some the usb c is the feature ….. qc was around before usb c ….. did they modify it slightly to make it an open system rather than broadcom proprietary as some people seem to indicate that just because it's usb c they can't charge all usb c devices so there there must be some handshaking to determine how it will charge.

      • seems the usb C standard is evolving and manufactures are working on standardising but not there yet…… seems trick is HP designed their device to charge with 3rd party chargers when turned off so that people aren't disappointed by under powered chargers, and a few other things …………….makes sense incase people use underpowered chargers while device is turned on flatten device and blame HP.

        http://www.pcworld.com/article/3017182/hardware/usb-c-chargi…

    • because QC is Broadcom, and the manufacturers need to use Broadcom chips, I think QC will die a slow death …. Broadcom will have QC in the phone chips as they already supply phone SOC but charger manufacturers won't want to pay for chips …. hence 4 IQ ports 1 QC …. QC chip costs are high.

USB C will take over as it's a standard and low license costs.

So when you replace your phone in 2 years, it will be USB C not QC.

I already have some QC2 and QC3 chargers (Tronsmart, Blitzwolf and Ankar) BUT would be nice to have a USB C charger before I need it as postage will take 4 weeks if I do need it.

    • QC4 is supposed to be compatible with USB Type-C PD.
