Xiaomi Mi Amazfit Sports Watch English Version + Gift BT Headset US $140 (AU $185) + Further US $2 Coupon @ AliExpress

120

Interested in a new smart/GPS watch. I realized that the smart watch needs to be charged daily and GPS watch has ordinary watch face/limited features.

I was a bit disappointed until I Xiaomi Amazfit got my attention.

read few reviews, below is one of them
https://www.igeekphone.com/review-of-the-huami-amazfit-desig…

my summary:

[Pros]
It has nice screen/long battery life/phone app support/BT music to headset/changeable watch face/GPS tracking features.

[Cons]
flat tire display design. i.e. the watch screen is round but display is not round. Similar to Moto 360.

[Language issue]
Phone app is alright.
But there appears to be two version of watches (Chinese version and English versions). I imagine it would be a simple firmware/software update things. But I'd suggest normal buyer to grab a English version to save a bit effort.

[Price, gift and discount]
After a bit search, I found this deal at Aliexpress.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/English-Version-Xiaomi-Huami…

As regarding the price, mind you that
-this price includes a free gift BT headset which is about US$15-20'ish I reckon.
-the standard shipping to Australia is free but slow. Or you can pay extra US$9-11 to get EMS/DHL
-the original price is marked as US$140. But there is a Store Promotion:US $2.00 off per US $100.00 + Get a US $2.00 coupon. Assume you can get double dipping.
-last but not the least, do not forget your 7% cashback from cashrewards.com.au at the moment.

Considering all of above, the watch is about [140 (marked price) - 4 (discount)]*0.93 (cashback) - 15 (headset value) = US$111.50 ~= AU$147.50.
personally I reckon this is a great price.

Got one of these, some notes:
    - The English version only supports miles (no km), does not have cycling as an activity (only walk, run, trail run) and the android app is pretty awful.
    - The Chinese firmware is WAY ahead of the english version in terms of functionality and updates, it remains to be seen if they've already dumped updating the english version.
    - Strava sync works as advertised and is pretty painless.
    - HR monitor is reasonably accurate.
    - Battery life (+ always on display) is pretty good.

    • can you flash the Chinese firmware to English version watch?

Yep. I've done exactly that - because I purchased the watch for two reasons: cycling and knowing how many km's I'd ridden…

Works well enough, but it does bug me having to do this just to get the functionality from a month old device that was promised on the box.

    • Thanks for info. Always good to have an unbiased opinion from somebody whose actually purchased and used the product.

I noticed it has a shiny bezel. What's it like with scratches, fingerprints etc.?

      • No scratches so far and it's a touchscreen so you'll be dealing with smudges… but screen is perfectly visible under it.

Tempting, but I'll probably hold off til Android Wear 2.0, and the new flagship devices yet to be announced

Will never support the flat tire
