Dan Murphy - FREE Vintec 30 Bottle Wine Fridge with $1,345.60 Penfolds Purchase (Save $681.60)

200

So, you know how many of us had fun with the comments on this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288626 (credit to @hellohello123)

Well, it turns out that there is a deal buried under that decanter and the 50yo tawny, one just needs to get to it by carefully removing surplus wine from the cornucopia of 69 items in the shopping basket.

So, if you're after a $679 Vintec 30 Bottle Wine Cabinet FREE, all you have to do is leave the following wines in your cart:

Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro 12 bottles
Penfolds Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon 6 bottles
Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz 2014 12 bottles
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2014 6 bottles.

Et voila! $1,345.60 of pretty good and not overly overpriced wine and the FREE wine cabinet is yours!

Pretty sure this is just the $888 package plus 2 bottles of Bin 128 Shiraz and 6 bottles of Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz

This is actually not that bad of an offer…

I just did the math, $720 worth of wine, case for $170ish. Sounds a good deal!

PLENTY of gifts in that wine too. Everyone loves a good Penfolds Bin as a gift.

Ok after discussing with wife, we bit the bullet on the $888 deal. Came down to ~$820 after cashrewards and $10 AMEX promo. at 28 bottles, if we give away half as gifts (which is the plan) then there's $14 x 30 ($420) that would have been spent otherwise, so really we just spent $400 on a wine fridge and 14 bottles of Penfolds Bin. Can't complain!

meh… got nothing on the 6 bottles of tawny for $57 and then paying $200 (+$55 delivery) for the fridge

ah 2014…. the lack of memories due to that deal

    • that's awesome! wish that was available now!!

      • Vintec shipped 12,000 units in that promo, about the same as what they normally shipped the entire year

the $888 deal is actually pretty good if you would normally buy these wines - stock up all at once and have a budget wine fridge for free

the 2015 & 2016 mid year deal had better dual-zone fridges (two sizes as well) but you really only got the fridge for half price instead of free

  • Just curious op, how did you ascertain which wines and how many could be removed? I wonder if something is possible with the cheaper vintec deal….

  • +3

Deal already posted -minus the extra bottles
Also has prom code for free wine

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288128

  • Wondering if you could exchange the wine for something else. Anyone know?

    • doubt it - the original deal years ago also allowed purchase of port (a wine product) but the free/cheap fridge was being subsidised by Penfolds

aka - "nobody's buying these fridges, so please buy a shedload of our high margin wine to cover our costs and you can have one"

I'm still loving the Wolf blass Samsung tv deal

So, you know how many of us had fun …

    No, in fact.

Well, it turns out that there is a deal buried under that decanter …

Really. You are a slimy con artist!

    So, if you're after a $679 …

    Nope, never.

Et voila! $1,345.60 of pretty good and not overly overpriced wine and the FREE wine cabinet is yours!

Bull. You can get the same volume and alcohol content wine which is pretty good for about $75 (eg. Berri Trad Red 5Lt x 5)

YOU HAVE TO SPEND $1346 TO GET THE CABINET. IT IS NOT IN ANY SENSE OF REALITY "FREE". Annoying to read this type of thing. Negging.

    • some people buy wine in bulk - I buy Penfolds by the case if I know it is a Bin that I will regularly drink or gift to people

so for many, it would be a free fridge

also the time of year for the CNY migration, so lots of wine going out of the country in checked baggage on flights

      • So you consider paying $1346 free?

        • you are paying retail for the wine and a small amount (effectively $28 in the $888 deal) for the fridge

just because you don't spend that much on wine at any one time doesn't mean that other people wouldn't

EDIT: Penfolds (i.e. TWE) are footing the bill for the Vintec fridge

        • @HeXa:
I'm not big on Penfolds, but I've spent that much on a wine order heaps of times and never got a free fridge. If you are a pennies drinker these deals are always good value. The big fridge deal that pops up around August is possibly the best wine related deal in the Country.

  • I received a Vintec V30 wine cabinet in September 2014 from Penfold's and discovered this week that it did not work any more. Temperature is set to 12C but doesn't fall below 20C. This is apparently a very common fault. Out of five cabinets ordered two have failed just outside of the warranty period. The cabinets may be 'free' because they don't last more than a few years at best.
