      Use discount code: MICK

      • The Micks is nice!

    • What is this promo?

    • Would you recommend this wine over the unlabelled one in the promo? Have bought both of the previous unlabelled deals and really enjoyed them.

  • Third time a charm - bought some for once

  • Nice drop.

I read the title as "Premium Unleaded" and was thoroughly confused…

    • On the plonk already this early in the day?

      • It's always after midday somewhere

    • +2

One would hope the Shiraz is unleaded either way.

  • Bought a case based on previous comments. Fingers crossed.

    • +5

That’s some high risk decision-making right there.

      • +7

I live life on the edge

  • Taste wise what’s the difference between batch 1 vs batch 2 vs batch 3?

    • +10

A hint of hallucination, a dash of imagination, and just a drop of scepticism!

  • +2

    Waiting for a $99 deal =)

  • It is amazing that Aussie exports can be made and sold extremely cheap (like we'll bend over backwards to get shafted).

But heaven forbid a winery (or other producer) be locally know as "cheap" (a better word would be priced competitively).

Like do they forgot that if the wine is good people will buy it and having it priced below competitors would mean people will buy it often?

But instead let's shaft the locals, sell cheap overseas, and if the foreigners shafts us then the locals can get a deal.

I could also be crazy but there's the underlying feelings that Australian goods for Australia are either second class in quality or priced through the roof.

And this is based on a comment on a previous batch where it's cheap due to an export deal falling through

    • It’s not logical but people associate price with quality. Especially for something as subjective as the taste of wine.

    • Bit like the cheap crays when China banned them

    • Is it worse to bend over backwards, or forwards, to get shafted?

      • I prefer backwards, but YMMV.

    • +1

Hey, if enough people look at my products and say "I like them, but I only want to buy them if they are more expensive than they are right now" then you bet I'm going to experiment with raising my prices.

  • I very much enjoyed the last batch. Im no expert but love a full bodied shiraz. Put mine in a decanter for a little or drink straight. Paid for 3rd batch. Thanks.

  • There I am trying not to buy any wine.
    Thanks OP!

  • +3

why did i buy this…i don't even drink wine…damn ozbargain brain

  • +4

Does it really taste like $100/bottle quality?

    • +6

Exactly. I mean and has it ever been sighted in the wild actually being sold and bought at that price or is it just a big RRP to look impressive but nobody has ever paid that for a single bottle of it? Rhetoric question I suspect. But if the RRP is to be brandished to impress I think it's something reasonable to comment on.

      • And I mean that is all an aside…..from past deals, seems a great drop and is priced well. On that basis I am sure it's very good value but the RRP does seem 'optimistic'. ;-)

      • +5

I bought the second batch and I'm very happy with the buy.

Most of my own bottles are between $50-120, and I can tell you emphatically that I would be pissed off if I paid anywhere near $100 a bottle for this.

At under $10 per bottle, amazing value.
$20 would seem about right and I would be happy to pay this normally.
$30 would seem the upper limit, but that would be debatable
$50 no bloody way: you're near The Struie pricing

It's a winery owned by CW, so inflated RRPs are the norm. But at this price it's a good deal

  • +1

Took a gamble based on other 2 deals. If not satisfied, I can return the remaining 11… right???? :)

    • +1

      Correct.

      • Cheers. Thanks for confirming.

Also… based on one of the previous comments. Is it still one of these (wink)?

  • Do you know if this third batch is cork or stelvin?

  • +2

    Stelvin

    • out of interest why is cork used so frequently for export?

      • +1

My personal opinion is that in China & Europe, cork is regarded as a symbol of high quality.

        • Also, tradition.

        • +1

Your opinion is correct, I sell 300k bottles per year around the world and my sales of corked vs uncorked (of the same SKU) skew heavily towards corked for the Chinese and French markets specifically

      • Couple of recent trips through Italy and eastern europe flat out finding anything but cork

  • Thanks OP. I ordered a case!

  • saw a review…use by date to 2040. Is that correct?

    • +2

Maybe, but I wouldn't go for more than 6 or 7 years

  • +1

How do things go from "The winery had a small amount left" (which sells out) to a whole new batch? Doesn't add up. And why is this now the 3rd different pricing for this?

    • +7

So, the winery had a small amount already bottled in cork for China.
We bought it and sold it.
Because it sold really quick, we asked the winery if they had anymore.
They said they have some in tank but not bottled.
We asked them to bottle some more and they did but with a cheaper bottle and stelvin closure to lower their costs and we were able to sell it for $99/Dozen instead of $119.40.
That sold out quickly too, so we asked if there's any more that they could bottle, and they said yes but at a slightly higher price.
Knowing the quality of the wine, we accepted the higher price as we thought it would still sell at $110 and actually it is selling really well.
      Hope this information helps.
      Cheers

      • That sold out quickly too, so we asked if there's any more that they could bottle, and they said yes but at a slightly higher price.

FYI, that translates to skye cellars not passing on the savings with the 3rd batch because it sold so well

        • Our margin is still the same.
The winery is making slightly more.
          And why shouldn't they?
          Cheers

          • -5

            @Skye Cellars:

            And why shouldn't they?

It’s greedy to bump the price 11.1% in just over a month from the previous deal for essentially the same product

            • @freeb1e4me: You're right, this is disgusting, please don't buy any!

              • @thestig:

                this is disgusting…

But it’s labeled as Premium wine 😬

            • @freeb1e4me: This wine is already heavily discounted, this is choosing beggar territory…

    • +1

The winery had a small amount left" (which sells out) to a whole new batch?

According to Skye Cellars you just have to ask and it will magically restock - see below

That sold out quickly too, so we asked if there's any more that they could bottle, and they said yes but at a slightly higher price - Skye Cellars

  • Really enjoyed the 2nd bottling - now buying a dozen of these. A steal at this price.

  • How much is this sold in China ?

  • +4

Tried one of my December 2024 batch.
Gave it as a blind taste to my better half with the great wine palate who was not upset at the $10:00 I had paid but could understand why it never made it to export.
RRP of $120 is completely delusional nonsense.
My own thoughts on drinking it were NOT to order any more.
For under $10:00 you can't go wrong but think of it as pig with lipstick rather than rare breed pork at a mega discount.

  • Whilst I completely respect the opinion of those that don't find this a great value wine at this price, geez I wish they would put a little more on the line and provide a list of better $10 shiraz labels.

Like, seriously, none of us buyers stay up at night thinking of ways to defend this exact drop. If there is a better buy for $10/bottle, put your favourites out there to be tested and discussed.

    • +2

Buy Koonunga Hill or Wynns at best price and cellar for a few years and you will be surprised.

Aldi regularly have wine close to the mark. Currently have a Reschke Cab Sav 2022 $11.99 or the Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOCG 2021 $11.99 which is likely worth a try.

I think it is fine for under $10:00 but it is not as promoted a mega bargain and it is certainly not a real world RRP$110.00 wine at huge discount.

I like my bargains but I happily spend a few $K on my annual Rockford allocation.

      • +2

Reschke has been so diluted as a brand, and I feel that their wines are not the same anymore. I have some RSR and Empyrean, with some age, that I bought on sale, and I really do not rate them.

I personally feel that this deal is more than fine and that people should be happy to buy it, but should not expect a $100 bottle. It's probably closer to a $20 bottle. It's definitely a decent mid week quaffer and good for the spag bol. It's a solid entryish level Barossa shiraz

I also like my 2x a year Rockford order. You should also check out Ballycroft

        • I do have some great aged Reschke but now at Aldi, Kogan and others.

This wine is fine for $10 and agree not worth more than $20.

Serious bargain buys tend to turn up in the $20 to $40 range for $100 wine.

          Will look into Ballycroft.

          Have you had Kalleske?

          • @GRP: Kallaeske is solid

Joe at Ballycroft is ex Rockford and ex Greenock Creek. His vines are from Rockford cuttings.

    • I dont really rate any shiraz near $10, outside of the ones in deals, including this one.

At that price range I would go a cheap cote du rhone or a malbec or a cheap italian/spanish/Portuguese. Government subsidies or mininal labour laws makes their entry level wines alot more appealing.

But yes I completely agree with your post. For sub $10 this is a good deal

      • How does this rate for sub $20? Still a good deal or would you recommend another Shiraz deal?

        • +1

Id be happy to pay $20 a bottle for this. This is definitely a good deal

  • +1

I had no plan to buy wine but bought. Ozb addiction

  • When I got to the checkout I received this message:

"No shipping methods available for your location"

    NSW address

    • Please send me your email address and I will check.

      • Done

        • Cheers

  • -3

You need to create yet another account to order… yeah I'll pass.

  • this is probably my 6th dozens. Ordered. Thanks OP.

  • I put down a purchase at time of posting - any updates on how the shipment is coming along? Thanks!
