Unlabelled Barossa Valley Shiraz $99/Dozen (Second Batch) Delivered @ Skye Cellars

850

IMPORTANT: This wine is the second bottling from the previous offer, and a further discount from $119.40/dozen.

While it differs slightly from the original wine and comes in new packaging and bottle, it maintains the quality you would expect.

A Premium Barossa Valley Shiraz at $99/Dozen.

This wine was kept for export but luckily it's still here.

Definitely one of the best deals we have ever done…

  • Isn't the label what gives a wine it's value?
You can buy a wine for $5 or $5000

      • +14

As someone who works in the industry (not for this company), I can tell you there is such an oversupply at the moment that there has never been a better time to be buying unlabeled wine. The tricky part is to know what the wine actually is before buying.

    • +6

Which is why this wine, when labelled, has an RRP of $120 per bottle. So, let’s say about $30-$50 at Dan's etc.

Understand saying not to buy unlabelled wine from some random seller, however Skye are very reputable, I’ve never received a bad wine from them in the 6 or so years I've been buying from them.

      • +1

Exactly. The producer got caught with an over supply & they need to shift volume quickly without devaluing the lable/brand.

The seller offer refunds if you don't like the wine and this listing, along with previous offers have reports that the wine is very good.

This seems like an oz-barginers dream.

      • -1

Sometimes I feel like these comments are posted and then upvoted by the seller (no pun intended) themselves to gain trust for their unknown product.

I'm not saying it's likely but I'm sceptical. Because last time it was a similar comment that made me buy 10 bottles of wine for $120 and they were worth maybe $5 a bottle imo. I gifted everything after the first bottle to people I didn't like much.

        • +3

I think the difference is, some retailers on this site are "wine discounters", who sell brands that you can't find elsewhere, which are always at ridiculous RRPs.

I've bought from Skye before and they are good to go. They are a proper wine retailer in Adelaide.

        • I can assure you I have no affiliation with Skye.

I am merely offering my experience as a long-time customer to appease the sceptical commenters, such as yourself.

  • $1341.00000 Discount Applied. Plus one for your precision.

    I am, however, a teetotaller.

  • If like what I got before then this is great wine. Thanks OP.

    • +2

      Similar quality.
It stayed in tank slighly longer than the previous bottling so, it's not exactly the same taste.
I actually just googled the difference between bottle aging (1st batch) and tank aging (second batch) and here is the result:

      Aging in the Tank:
Wine is often aged in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels before being bottled. This initial aging period allows the wine to settle, clarifies the liquid, and can contribute to flavor development, according to Forbes.

      Aging in the Bottle:
Once bottled, wine undergoes further aging. This process, particularly for red wines, involves a subtle oxidation that softens tannins and develops complex aromas, notes a post on Liebichwein. The rate of aging in the bottle is influenced by the type of closure (cork vs. screwcap) and storage conditions. Natural cork allows for slight oxygen ingress, accelerating aging, while screwcaps are more airtight and can slow down the process, according to Liebichwein.

      Importance of Both Stages:
Both bulk aging and bottle aging are important for developing the final character of the wine. Some winemakers choose to age wines for extended periods in the tank, while others prefer a shorter time in the tank and a longer time in the bottle

For this price I'll try a dozen, based on the comment(s) on the previous deal.

Instead of attacking the veracity of this deal's value, I wish commenters would post either their thoughts on having tried the wine, or list similar variety wines they prefer at comparable prices.

I have bought this and the original version as well, slightly different taste, but both excellent wines at this price.

My only annoyance is I bought two cases of this at $119.40/case! which I thought was a bargain; tempted now to buy another 2 cases at this price but I have too much wine from Skye already.

    • +11

Message me your email address and I will add some credit to your account.
      Cheers

Wow you can't ask for much more than this; great service OP.

  • Blind box wine, Gen Z's will love this.

Anyone know what winery this came from?

    • Amazon wine - oh no

I'm boycotting Bezos after his obey in advance attitude to Trump

Quick - I want a refund. No Amazon wine in this house thank you

/s for those with no sense of humor

  • Bought two dozens to try. Thanks OP.

    • +2

A thorough try. I can respect that.

  • Thanks bought to try. At worst a second bottler if guests won't leave

  • Is this screw top or cork? Will buy a dozen to try. Is this on the sweeter or dry side?

    • Screw top and on the dry side

    • +2

It will be one of these:

Glaetzer Wines BISHOP Barossa Shiraz 2022
Schild Estate Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022
Schild Estate "Mick's Workshop" Single Vineyard Shiraz 2022
Triple Creek Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022
Schild Estate Angus Brae Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022

  • Willing to give this a try. Seems like reputable seller.
Worst case - add to bolognese

Have bought a dozen. Hope I won't be disappointed. Recently bought two dozen of a previous Skye Cellars deal for Taylors Hotelier GSM. Wasn't what I expected from a GSM (I understand it isn't Taylors premium label but I expected better - it was pretty insipid. Took it to a lunch over Easter and the other drinkers pretty much agreed with my assessment). Probably was worth what I paid for it, but I wouldn't pay any more.

Depending on what I get this time, I'll decide if I should pay any attention to the Skye Cellars posts in the future.

  • Will give it a crack - bought!

  • Bought an un-named wine for the first time. Hoping for the best 🤞

If you read the comments there is a BIG clue according to @captaincabinets.

If anyone here is into McLaren Vale Shiraz, this is a must buy:

    https://www.skyecellars.com.au/clean-skins/premium-reserve-m…

It's better than most $20-$30 Wines that you can buy at a bottle shop.

Quality Guarantee: If not happy when you try it, we will get the remaining 11 bottles back and still issue a refund for 12 bottles.

    Cheers

    • are these unlabelled or mystery dozen?

      • Unlabelled.

    • Oh…..very interested!!

You couldn’t DM a “rough clue” on what this might be??

        • Oh no :) must have had too much vino already

I can see some pretty clear hints around the Barossa wine…. 3 creeks?? :)

But can’t see any clues around the McLaren…..

          I’ll have another re-read

  • Put an order in too! Looking forward to giving this a try. How long do the confirmation email’s take to come through as put in an order about an hour ago and nothing yet.

  • The last dozen was excellent!

    Ordered.

  • Thanks OP

Joined the club and ordered a dozen

We're not big wine drinkers, but the description of this wine sounds like it will suit our tastes

  • I'm critical of the fake high RRPs of some brands/corporations. But at under $10 a bottle you can't go wrong! I've ordered a dozen too

  • Thanks OP, ordered four cases.

  • Thank you, bought a dozen :)

Hello Skye, got any deals on Pinot coming up?

Preferably light bodied, like a Mornington, Geelong or a tassie (not a central Otago)

    Thanks!!

    • Skye is Adelaide based so has mainly SA wines

    • Sorry. As PCHammond said, we mainly deal with SA wines.
Actually 99% of our wines are from SA.
      Cheers

  • Damn was hoping this one would come back, and missed it by a few mins (an hour and a bit ago).

    • How do you know when they are sent it? Mine just showing the order and still no email confirmation either.

  • Missed :(

  • Received today and can attest to the quality. It tastes definitely more than the price suggests. Clean after taste etc no nasty tannins. Would buy again! Really curious what premium winemaker this was.

It's very smooth straight from the bottle, full bodied taste. Comparable to $30-$40 wines from the bottle shop.

  • Just ordered a dozen, but the 'SKYECLUB' code is no longer valid.

    • +1

      Try: SKYECLUB1

      • That worked, thank you!

  • Bought some more after cracking open a bottle of the first delivery. Great quality at a very approachable price.

    • what is it?

  • +1

Disappointed, only because I can't order another dozen (or 5) - was a delicious drop!
