    the fhd screens are nice

    ssd phobia isnt

    the R5 430 is only a 64 bit gpu

less said about the 920mx the better

    • Change out the spinner for your own choice of SSD
I don't see this as being a problem but a blessing lol

      • You need to do a reinstall or reimage to the ssd though

        • Takes like 30 minutes.

        • @cwongtech: i have heard in many cases replacing the hdd voids the warranty.

@VAA: If you're going to do a warranty just put the old HDD back in. Problem solved. There have never been any warranty stickers or any of that crap from my experience.

    • Interesting - the APU inside the A12-9700P has more stream processors than the R5 M430.

  • No TA deal then i guess?

Cheer OP. The A510 is perfect for my SO with her starting Uni next month. I would have liked an SSD but can do that myself. The mix of FHD screen, 7 series CPU and 4G GFX at that price is the best bang for buck IMO for any Multimedia laptop out there.

Reckon one of these would be worth for programming and large data analysis at uni? Looking around for the best deal I can find. Would also be looking to use it for a bit of Dota or other games once in a while. Would also be used to edit a few photos now and again when travelling.

15.6" laptop for Traveling + Uni? I personally wouldn't recommend, would highly suggest getting an ultrabook.

The clincher though, is that ultrabooks with discrete graphics cards are usually pretty pricey (expect to pay $1200~1500).

Examples of high-end ultrabooks that are rated highly.
      ASUS zenbook UX310UQ
      Xiaomi Mi Air
      Lenovo Yoga 710

If you're a poor uni student and can't afford to spend beyond a grand, you should probably look at a Thinkpad E460 or a Thinkpad 13, which won't play much of games beyond Dota (but at least you can concentrate on your studies more)

      • Thanks for that Scrimshaw. Would it be worth definitely getting a gen 7 intel processor or would a gen 6 work pretty well anyway?

        • +1

There is very little difference between the two, I wouldn't let it influence your decision in any way.

Kaby Lake (Gen 7) processors do have some advantages to do with clock speed responsiveness which will result in better better performance and longer battery life over an equivalent Skylake (Gen 6) configuration.

  • so the cashback thing is incorrect / not applicable isn't it.. as this is not HN 'BE' ? (sorry, i'm new to this cashrewards thing)

    • Correct. Cashback only applicable to Harvey Norman B&E and not Harvey Norman.

      • thanks the reply. that would have been a tad too good to be true :P

  • FYI if anyone cares they list the wrong GPU. Its actually got the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 4GB
