Can you swing by Parkville and pick me up as well ;)

Just down the street is Basfoods. If you've never been it's like Costco but more Mediterranean stuff and no membership fee.

  • Is there any deadline to use the voucher? couldn't find details online

    • voucher doesn't have an expiry as far as i know.

      • +1

2 weeks from when you sign up.

        • yes correct, sorry totally missed it on the voucher.

I like the typo in the email "VOURCHER".

  • Just received my voucher - "Don't forget to tell your friends about this promotion. We want as many people as possible to try our burgers so happy to extend the offer to everyone." I wonder if this includes Alias'? :P

    • Considering the lead time in vouchers being sent out, I have a suspicion they will be onto people trying to do this.

Wouldn't be surprised if we had to produce ID to claim them also.

  • Looks good and local for me. Good to have a BBQ place in the area although burgers are already well represented by B.East, royal stacks, coburger and Beatbox kitchen

    • Try Little Oscars. They do brioche sliders and good chips. I'd go as far as it's my favourite out of that bunch (haven't had Coburger).

      • Haven't got round to it yet, but its on my list.

I wonder if these guys are related to Third Wave in Port Melbourne. They also give away a free burger with the same online system.

    • Yes they are. If you look at the email you get from them it has an info@thirdwavecafe as contact details

    • they are one in the same, different brand name

  • im only in Melbourne on some weekends (live in rural VIC) so this would make a good Sunday dinner

      Yay!! Sunday dinner.

  • so from what time on sunday we can use the voucher?

    • The open at 7AM but given they have a breakfast menu they may not be cooking burgers early in the morning. I'd say lunchtime onwards.

  • If you haven't got it, check your spam folder

We live around 5 minutes walk to this place located across from the West Brunswick tennis clubs.

Had ribs & chicken wings (dine-in) for weekday lunch and I am sorry to say that it was pretty bad and overpriced..

Here's to hoping that their burgers are much better than what we had as it's always nice to have a decent local burger joint to go to.

  • Thanks, just picking up a few burgers now. Lunch for the crew sorted.

      What did they taste like?

      • I enjoyed my burger. I had the og. It was a very nice patty. Pretty big. Pickles in the burger were delicious as well.

One thought their OG had too much mustard and the other didn't enjoy it. One had the Royale. Only had a few bites. They were not very impressed, soggy bread and had tomatoes in it.

The sides were pretty good, loved the seasoned steak chips, onion rings super crispy, however the mac and cheese tasted like powdered cheese and a little too runny for our liking and kinda bland. Meh.

Spent about $30 for sides and a drink.

Just went there for the free burger. Was told by the manager only the OG was free.
My burger bun was burned, beef patty was not cooked through and the service was bad. Chips was good. I wouldn't be bothered to try a free meal again. Not worth it.

    • I would say with over 2300 clicks they may be getting OzBargained with free burgers

  • +1

    Can confirm as well.
Was said only the OG was free, and also heard him tell his staff to only give out OG's with the voucher.

Overall, chips were good, burger was average.

Wouldn't come back. Was also hoping for the Royale

  • anyone else get the initial email, but not the voucher? it's been 24 hrs

    • Both emails were stuck in my junk…just mentioning in case…

Just tried and can confirm only the OG burgers can be ordered with vouchers. Bad service, flavourless burgers. Got charged $4.2 for my lemon lime bitter but only $4 stated on menu. Just found out on the way home . Would not complain as they were free burgers but I don't wanna experience these kinds of things just for those free flavourless burgers thanks. Did not know about this store, now it is in my black list.

I went today. Picture of free burgers.

    • The free burger vouchers will get you the OG burger (cheeseburger) or the Anti-Burger (veggie burger).
    • They said they've gotten a spike in free burger vouchers. :) . There were people coming in with them while I was there.
    • The place itself borders a park and is an awesome spot to eat outside. Beatbox Kitchen Food Truck is (or was) sometimes across the street at the tennis courts so it's a good area.

    • Service good, friendly Kiwi serving us. Didn't have much interaction with manager.

    • Milkshake was very good, recommend getting that albeit it's $8. B East is $7.50.
    • I got a soft drink and it was $4 which seemed a bit much. My go to burger place B East charges $3.50.
    • OG had a good bun (more to the brioche side), lots of melted cheese, pretty good sauces however agree with the others the patty was a bit bland. It definitely needed seasoning and some other prep stuff (I make my own burgers from scratch). It was cooked medium well and that's traditionally/modernly the way you do it. Go to the US and that's how you'll get it, none of this well done cooked hockey pucks.
    • Veggie burger was a panko crumbed thing. Wife enjoyed it. It's always a struggle getting a decent veggie burger and they tend to be dry. This was good.
    • Chips were good and reminiscent of Nandos chips with their flavouring sprinkled on top. No dipping sauce offered though.

I would go again next time I take a visit to BAS foods but might try something else on the menu. Thanks thespottedcow, good find. They are also on First Table so you can get half price dining at night.

    • Great review Neil. Thanks also for the recommendation for BAS Foods, as I hadn't heard about them before and they definitely looks like a place to visit.

Went in and as I got the voucher before the description was updated I tried to order The Royale, and was told it wasn't on offer.

But I wasn't impressed by the burger, bland and under-cooked. Won't be going back.
