  • I guess for a mechanical keyboard. This is pretty good price. Is this comparable to corsair though? I am thinking replacing my razer black widow. It served my long enough….

    • I would like to know the answer to this too. I wouldn't be using it much for gaming, just everyday use, maybe a bit of video editing here and there.

      • +1

Just be aware it's Blue Switches so quite noisy/clacky compared to Brown switches

        • What's the best "all round" switch color? Is this a true bargain on these keyboards? Original price seems very close to Corsair K70 keyboards.

        • @YellowKnight: It's a great keyboard, Blues are the best switches if you don't mind the noise, but Browns are the best switches if you want something quieter (which not on sale here) so it's really down to personal preference.

        • @The Land of Smeg: So it actually has blue switches like some Corsair keyboards? Would you recommend the Gamdias keyboard or this one http://www.msy.com.au/qldonline/peripherals/17142-corsair-ga…

        • +3

@YellowKnight: The Gamdias uses Kailh brand Blue Switches, which are a copy of the Cherry brand MX Blue Switches. They say that they're the same, but Cherry have such a strong reputation being that they have been around for so many years. It really depends on what you like for Brands and build quality. The Corsair/Cheery is most likely to be a better product given that they are both well known brands with good reputations.

It's like buying a high end Kogan TV. Sure it's probably going to be fine if they are using some good Panels, but it's probably not going to be as good as a Samsung.

        • +1

@YellowKnight: >What's the best "all round" switch color?

Probably the linear switches such as Cherry MX Red since "click" switches (such as Cherry MX Blue) or "bump" switches hamper fast action games such as FPS.

That said if you do not play fast paced games then that's less of an issue.

It is a matter of personal preference though.

        • @Diji1: So it looks like for a few dollars more this one might be the better option http://www.msy.com.au/qldonline/peripherals/17142-corsair-ga…

          @YellowKnight:

My opinion is that brown are the best all round if used for gaming and typing as they give feedback without incessant noise. Blues are too clicky and loud for me for gaming, although the auditory feedback is meant to improve typing speed through giving quickly processed feedback for when the key is activated.

Reds are another popular switch, but some users report an increase in the number or errors, and a considerable learning curve for when the key is activated without the key bottoming out (ie slamming against the base).

          Ymmv

        • +1

@ozbjunkie: I agree. Reds are only good for gaming, it's a frustrating typing experience.

        • +1

          @YellowKnight:

I bought this exact keyboard last week and I absolutely love it…no ragrets.

        • @YellowKnight: The K70 is very well reviewed pretty much across the board.

        • @ozbjunkie: I found my error rate improved massively when using red switches but if typing noise annoys you would not like to be near me. Constant clattering sounds lel.

        • @The Land of Smeg: I prefer browns regardless of the noise. I have a razer keyboard at home with their version of the blue switches and it's no-where near as nice to type on as my brown switched Deck keyboard at work. As an aside, the Deck keyboard has a much better macro system as well, but doesn't have USB or 3.5mm ports.

        • @YellowKnight: I wouldn't call $50 a few dollars!!

        • @Diji1:

If you're clattering on reds, that means you're bottoming out the keys, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a light press key - it's better for your fingers in the long term to only press the keys as deep as necessary to actuate.

          I still clatter too though…

        • @macrocephalic: I use browns myself. I don't mind Blue but it sounds like I'm on a typewriter and it would just annoy everyone else around me.

    • +1

The Kalih switches are on the lower end of the scale in terms of quality control, so no guarantee of consistency across the keys on the board but well, considering its RGB as well, you get what you paid for and a bit more.

    • Stick with it, I've also had the black window for 5+ Yeats and only 1 backlight on the numpad has stopped working.
Otherwise everything still works flawlessly and don't need to get something "new" for a similar experience and throw away your $150~ keyboard.

The USB slot and audio jacks are pretty useful on it too.

I've been waiting for Logitech G810 Orion, is this Gamdias Hermes RGB better than G810?

    • +3

      No.

      • What are your thoughts on this vs the G710+?

  • +1

Same company that makes switches for Razer.

Given Razer's spotty record on quality is that really a good thing?

    • +1

try a razer product for yourself and experience "quality". I have four razer products and I am impressed.

My Razer mouse scroll wheel broke after 2 months.

        • +2

You might have mashed it too hard.

        • @iTzMilzy: Mashed it too hard by scrolling?

    • +3

Razer mice are good, but their other products - Keyboards, Headphones etc. - are not.

Recommend: ducky, leopold, filco, KUL, vortex/IKBC,Varmilo or Cooler Master. The rest are garbage

    • +2

      solid keyboards right there! :)

    • +4

CODE, HHKB, Realforce, Matias. In fact, the Logitech G610 would be perfectly suitable for most people and foregoes their usual gaud. Calling everything garbage that you aren't familiar with doesn't help first buyers. Smeg used an excellent analogy above regarding the keyboard market.

On topic: This is a great price to trial mechanical if the design is to your tastes. Worst case is you don't like it and flog it on Guntree at a ~$30 loss.

    • Ehhh you get what you paid for here, no need to be flaunting the big names.

  • +3

Holy shit Hermes makes keyboards? Better snatch these up. They'll appreciate for sure!

$2 HDMI cable and $16.60 Delivery??

    • Why I decided I didn't really need them.

  • Cheap, but I prefer browns.
If you're near MWave, they have some mechanical keyboards and switch kits you can try out in store. Green's, browns, blacks, blues, greys, red… It really comes down to personal preference.

  • I have an azio keyboard with Kaihl Blue switches.
It is quite noisy, I quite like the rattling sound when typing a long report, but others nearby dont share my enthusiasm.

  • I need a USB sd card reader like the one in that newsletter. Any way to get it delivered for $4?

    • Get someone to buy it for you who is local then post it to you with a couple of stamps?

    • How soon? I have bought USB SD card readers from China for a couple of dollars.

  • +1

In case you guys didnt see it and need it, the matching mouse (Gamdias Zeus P1) is also on sale from $49 to $29

    http://www.msy.com.au/nswonline/peripherals/18009-gamdias-ze…

I bought it as a backup as well as the keyboard. Cant wait as I really miss the Blue Clicks from my old IBM XT days. haha

Note about this (and I assume any other) 7 metre HDMI cable. I have a solid brick home and had to hire a chase machine to cut a channel in the wall to run my HDMI cables through to the wall mounted TV. This was a huge job, and by the time I was done, I realised that the trench I cut wasn't deep enough for the conduit, so I had to cut a section out of the conduit. This means that while the HDMI cables are kind of loose, they are basically permanently installed in the wall, as getting them around corners etc will be problematic. So I have 4 of these exact cables in the wall. No problems until I buy an Xbox One S. It plays Xbox games at runs at 4K no problem, but the minute you try and play a 4K blu ray, it doesn't work. After much research, I find out that 4K bluray requires an HDMI cable length of 3 Metres of less (not feasible for me). I don't know why this is, as I assumed HDMI was digital and it either works or it doesn't, but it appears that this is certainly the case. A signal goes through to the TV, but I guess the available bandwidth is not enough over this distance. (Funny, when other 4K HDR sources work fine).

Paragraphs and spaces won't kill you!

      • +1

        But why take a chance?

      • +2

The paragraph is grammatically correct, has plenty of sentences and doesn't require a seperate paragraph as there is no change of topic.

        • Just easier to digest I think is what he was going for.

          He's wrong.

So.. paragraphs and spaces WILL kill you? :P

        • +2

@Reggienator: I think you got that wrong. The ability to read is important.

        • @Reggienator: Yeah, you're wrong bro.

    • Yeah, better quality cables actually do matter once you go past 1 or 2 metres, if you want high-bandwidth stuff like 4K 60FPS.

I had a cheap ($30) 10m cable for my projector that cuts out sometimes ("no signal") at 1080p 60fps. Had to get a fancier ($70) Monoprice cable with more shielding and Redmere tech (a kind of processor chip in one end of the cable that detects and corrects for signal variance or something - makes higher bandwidth work on longer cables, anyway) that can do 18Gbps. Monoprice postage is high, but Amazon sells the monoprice cables with reasonable postage, so I bought from them.

I think it was this one:
      https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-High-Speed-Technology-Suppo…

      • Too late for me unfortunately.

      • I do wish all those posts on the internet I read in years past about HDMI cables and how buying expensive ones makes no difference had taken into account future tech. Bloody olde time blog posts.

        • We all get to learn from your mistakes, does that help a little?

        • @rustafaria: It's the only thing that keeps me going in this life.

        • all those posts on the internet I read in years past about HDMI cables and how buying expensive ones makes no difference

All those posts were correct: it makes no difference, as long as you do get a signal. With digital interfaces like HDMI, it's either perfect or no signal at all (or very visible degradation, like when digital TV has a bad reception).

The problem with these crappy cables is, they're so bad, they're not delivering the signal well enough for the error correction to overcome signal degradation and reconstruct the data at the destination.

It solved the problem of being unsure how good your audio/video signal was in the analog days - a major problem back in the analog days.

    • For next time: put ethernet cables instead of HDMI and then use HDMI over ethernet.

  • Hey guys, keen on a new kb myself. Running an old wireless Logitech. (Which I can't stand now, and need a new mouse too). Are there any decent wireless kb's with Cherry keys or do you just stuck with cabled?? (That also don't cost heaps?)

    • They do exist, but I don't know of a single "well known" company that makes them.

  • Okay, so apart from this keyboard, is there a bargain on any keyboard out there that's value for money? Does not necessarily have to be mechanical, but prefer to be wired.

  • Passing on this deal for now. I still have an unopened one of these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/21242 "Voodoo DNA" LOL

  • I placed an order for two of the HDMI cables 10 days ago, received the email that says "Order received, awaiting confirmation", and I'm still waiting for the pickup confirmation. I emailed twice asking for an update, and I'm getting no response! Pretty terrible service.
