        • @scotty:

          Sneaky edit ;) See above

        • Wow the neg bonanza on that Store's previous deals

        • Lol roboguy! He's banned for a year now for sockpuppeting lmao. Where was the sockpuppeting post?

        • @CVonC:

Sorry that ban reason is incorrect, the correct reason is showing now. That store did not sockpuppet.

        • @hamza23:

So we've already changed the rules? Cool :)

        • @Spackbace:

Manual ban for now, we still need to reassess the automated performance based bans for stores posting infrequently.

        • @hamza23:

          Nice :)

          @payton:

Nah says further down its a $25 product

        • @Spackbace: Doctors Club has actually been banned twice — sockpuppeting and performance-based.

        • @scotty:

Ok yeah I figured there was a sockpuppeting ban, didnt see a performance-based timeframe. All good :)

        • @PJC: Unpublished again for Sockpuppeting.

    Hi Guys
In a long multipage Deal thread, if I go View All to see all comments, is it possible to retain the commenting box and plus neg vote comment buttons on this view?

    • +1

That was answered above. It's to intensive to include those features on the view all page.

Could a new forum category be created -"help justify my sense of victimization "

    • +3

Would that truly stop you picking on me?

  • Sorry if this has been requested before, however is it possible that we increase the amount of characters permitted in the title? I sometimes find it difficult including some important details in the title, especially if the title includes more than one deal. The amount of characters in the title is further reduced when posting deals which need to include two different currencies (e.g. US $X (AU $X) which take up some space too.

    • The title characters are as much as they can be, we previously increased them last year.

You can omit the AU price if you don't have the room, just post the original currency, you can write the AU price in description instead.

  • The Black Friday page under Pages goes here with a Permission Denied error instead of here

    • Thanks. Fixed.

Stores that are banned for sockpuppeting (mainly perma-banned stores), could we not put a ban in place for L & P-Plate posters, save mods some work?

Yes, they'll still try workarounds etc, but it might still help cull a few out, and also means you don't have to then check them for sockpuppeting.

"View all comments" doesn't always work. On long threads (of 11 pages or longer) "View all" will still be paged. The navigation is also right down the bottom which makes it difficult to realise at first. See here for an example.

    • They're just too DB heavy to generate so a limit has to be set (maximum 1000 comments) rather than boundless.

      • +1

Fair enough. Can the navigation be moved or duplicated at the top? Or at the very least instead of "All Comments" it displays "Most Comments - Page 1"?

        • Yes that can be done.

        • +1

          @scotty: Thanks!

Can we have a new forum category called "Want everything instant/can't do anything/entitled"? -_-

    • +1

      can't do anything

if you mean 'can't even read the description / a basic look to find the answer', can I suggest to the Mods:

In addition to the 'offtopic' tag that collapses a comment thread, have another one that do the same (collapses a comment), called

      • "answer already discussed"
      • "obvious"
      • something along the lines of "pointless" tag.

      Helps reduce conflict!
Nothing as fun as trying to read 12 pages of Comments on a Deal, where half of it are 'can you find me item X on this sale?'

Was asked to post here by neil: Is there a way to filter out City specific deals from my feed? I'm tired of seeing eg. 'FREE Yogurt sample at Melbourne station' or 'FREE burrito from a store one day only!' when that's not my capital city…

    • It's not available at the moment. We (OzBargain staffs) did discuss about it at the meeting yesterday and we might work on some solutions in the coming year.

Also when you say "feed" do you mean RSS feed? The RSS feed itself cannot be customised.

      • I don't know much about RSS Feed, but I meant my 'front page' of OzB when I am logged into my account.
Is there a way for me to 'block' all deals with [VIC] [SYD] in the titles perhaps?

      • Probably wouldn't be too hard: add an optional location to users' profiles, and add an optional location field to deals. Locations can be implemented however it is that Gumtree does it (uses your search term to filer through a list of locations and you pick the one out of the list of valid locations, and it is tied to google maps somehow).
Users can then choose to block deals that are located more than 1km, 10km, 50km, or 100km from their location. This would be greyed out as an option (with an explanation/link to relevant section of profile) if the location on profile is not set.
You could also have an option to get emailed deals that are near your location (like you can already subscribe to search terms and get emailed). I would LOVE to know if there's a food shop near me giving stuff away!

        • Gumtree items are always pinpointed to a specific location. However OzBargain deals often have various scopes (state-wide, city-wide, specific location, etc), making it a bit more complicated to implement properly.

        • @scotty: I am able to set a search location as, say, a specific suburb, a city centre, a city, or a state. I don't know how that works behind the scenes though

Is it possible to have a feature where a deal can only been viewed for users signed in

    • What would be the reason for that feature? We've said in the past that this isn't something we want to do (force people to signup to see deals).

  • Could we have a new forum for Cryptocurrencies? With how quickly it has kicked off this year, it's slowly starting to take over the financial forum. If you look at this picture you'll see that more than 30% of the posts on the front page are regarding crypto and I expect this to continue growing.

    • Please use Finance forum. Crypto currency is just a financial product.

Is there a way to see only open competitions in the Comps\Daily Entry option pls? Thanks

    • Via Filtering:

Entry Limit: Once Per Day, Exclude closed competitions

  • Provide access to reviews on Choice.com.au (https://www.choice.com.au/member/membership-options-summary)

Different pricing plans are available for schools, libraries, not-for-profits and other organisations. Please call Customer Service on 1800 069 552 for more details.

    • That would be great however Choice are very protective of having their reviews shown outside of their site as we've received numerous take down requests.

Is it possible to set up an entry portal on OzBargain to Choice.com.au? That way no Choice content will be shown on OzB. Something similar to how we can access online eBooks/eMagazines with a local library membership, or like the Cashback button.

OzB login -> OzB special portal page (only accessible with OzB membership) shows button "Click here to access Choice" -> Choice.com.au (already logged in with OzB credential).

    Hey OzBargain and OzBargainers,

I would just like to say thanks for an awesome 2017! Secured so many good deals from Xiaomi power banks to Bose QCs. Here's to 2018!

Received my Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro today and thought of giving thanks. Also, it's my 3rd year anniversary upon setting foot in this beautiful country.

Hey scotty & team - a Happy New Year to you all.

Not sure if this has been brought up previously, but is it possible to please change the default OzB spellchecker to British English rather than American. Whenever I type comments, I get red underlines for words like honour, centre, colour, litre etc. Thanks!

    • See this. Spell-checks are done by the browser. Make sure your OS / browser is set to the correct language.

lol, well that's embarrassing! Thanks scotty, learn something new every day. Installed the Mozilla Add-on and worked a treat :)

    New thread for 2018?

  • I think I just came across a bug.

I received an email from a thread I am subscribed to. The email has a hyperlinked "@username", which in the past linked to the profile of the user, but seems to have been changed to point directly to the comment made (which is good). The bug is that the URL is relative and misses the domain, e.g. it looks like http://comment/5486780/redir

    • Thanks, I can see the problem and we'll fix it.
