  • This program is very good and keeps updating to bypass youtube protection

If you purchase a video from google play you can stream it from youtube via a browser at 1080 - can this therefore record that stream?

      • +2

not likely for that purpose you need a screen recorder or a link capture program
try extension called 'videodownloadhelper' for firefox and maybe others but if that fails look for a real time screen grabber with good compression or use nvidia's built in screen recorder if you have a good nvidia card

Since this is freeware and open source I'm failing to see a bargain here. By all means buy to support them if you like - but I can't clearly see any advantage for the product in doing so.

    • not freeware it only allows 10 downloads

      • +1

Really? footer of the main page indicates otherwise. and it is no where near obvious the limitation before you download.

This has also been free for a very long time.

I heard that was around before the internet. True story!

      • +2

Correct. Earlier versions of the code were written in blood on parchment made from human skin.

Must be the Oracle from the mighty one that way before human race started that and passed down on us.

Why would I pay for a glorified downloader when I can use a free, far more extensive program like JDownloader to download my multimedia?

    • +1

Because most people don't realise that programs like Jdownloader exist. Hence, companies like this one create a clone, and pretend that it does something innovative… suck in a few punters.

      • +1

Oh like Apple. I get it now.

        • -2

No, not like Apple at all.

If you try to make some dig at people who buy iPhones (when they could get an Android)… the reason Apple is successful is that iPhone users specifically don't want the whole "android experience", including the frustration of OS crashes, memory leaks, needing to reload the OS every few months, out of control Apps that bring the device to it's knees, massive hardware resources needed for reasonable performance, lack of ongoing OS and Firmware support, dreadful resale values, etc.

Because it uses Java which is horrid.

      • at very least it gets the job done, it's free and Java is already installed on 90% of computers anyway.

plus there are so much more u can dl with using jdownloader.

    • I use this for everything :)

    • I must have been living under a rock, or maybe the safety cloud of IDM (Internet Download Manager)that I purchased a few years ago now, but I have not heard of JDownloader. IDM has been most generous with it's licensing up until recently, but alas, probably through necessity to support development etc they have gone down the path of a less generous license model whereby they will require further payment. Fair enough, providing I can afford to support and keep the fantastic IDM, I will.
A question to users of JDownloader, does JDownloader support multi-part downloads? and does it take over downloads from popular browsers like Firefox? Probably a stretch here, but IDM gives an option tab to download 99% of any video link, does JDownloader give similar option?

      • I'm glad you're hearing about it now at least! I've never tried using it for multi-part downloasd, but just from what I've quickly read now, it appears that it does support it, as long as you can provide a direct link to the download for it to grab.

As for whether it takes over downloads from browsers, I'm interpreting your question as whether or not it takes control of the downloads from these browsers and feeds them into its own downloader? Answer for that is no, you're still able to download from all your other browsers normally (I'm sure there would be add-ons that could change this, though: it's highly customisable). Whenever you copy a link, its default settings are to grab the link and attempt to download what it thinks you want (ie. throw in a YouTube link and it will grab the video, audio, and often thumbnail files, splicing them together during the download).

I'm a little unsure of your last question. What is the purpose of downloading 99% of a video link? To complete the download at a later time?

Best way to get these questions answered is also just to give it a try for yourself! Once you have all your own preferences built into the settings, it's such a fantastic tool.

        • he means it downloads from 99% of video sites so a very small amount of video sites it cannot rip from due to some form of coding or protection

  • I've used this before.. Can download playlists unlike other free ones which download one video at a time.. Not sure if there are better applications now but this was the best one I had found when I wanted it last year…

For the slightly more tech savvy, this is a good (and free) option: https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/

      Hello… 1997 is calling.

Do people really still use Command Line driven clunkers like that?

Yeah maybe it gets the job done, but in 2017 even "tech-savvy" people tend to prefer software with a bit more refinement. It's not as if there isn't already about 1,000 existing alternatives to choose from LOL

This program is open source and can be modified by anyone to be what ever you want it to be. If you want to have a GUI for it, you can spend half an hour building one to your exact specifications. If you want to run it via a browser helper object, you can spend 20 minutes implementing that.

Since it's a command line tool, it can easily be used in automation. I can use the command in a script so that it automatically downloads videos I want and sorts them into categories etc. Since it's run via terminal, I can run it remotely and download large videos from my servers with better net connections.

Personally on my macs I run it via an app launcher called "Alfred". I press CTRL-Space and a command line pops up. I type "> yt" and paste the URL of the video and it downloads for me. No custom GUI needed.

The app in OP downloads videos from 5 different sites, and YouTube-dl does in excess of 1000… But hey… Use what ever you want. Though if you seriously had to be told any of that stuff, you weren't one of the "tech savvy" the comment was aimed at in the first place.

        • This program is open source and can be modified by anyone to be what ever you want it to be

Unfortunately not everyone has the skills or experience to modify computer programming code. Many of the people here struggle with English spelling and grammar LOL.

If you want to have a GUI for it, you can spend half an hour building one to your exact specifications

The majority of people would not be able to build a GUI in hundreds of hours. Not even in a lifetime for some!

If you want to run it via a browser helper object, you can spend 20 minutes implementing that.

Of course - absolutely trivial for anybody with an honours degree in Computer science!

Though if you seriously had to be told any of that stuff, you weren't one of the "tech savvy" the comment was aimed at in the first place

It is obvious that there is a massive difference in your definition of "slightly more tech savvy" compared to mine. Unless I forgot to highlight and see the hidden sarcasm tags in your post?

Most of us already have busy lives and have absolutely no desire to learn programming languages, software coding, customising application calls or even opening a Command Line or Terminal window simply to download a few Youtube videos. The product advertised in the OP is targeted specifically at people who are not tech savvy.

You got me thinking whether most Youtube content would be deemed far too plebeian for the tech savvy anyway, right?

          @llama:

Seriously mate,. I don't know what your problem is.. to use this program, you literally type:

          YouTube-dl URLOFWEBSITE

Then it downloads the video from 1000+ different sites. The only thing that makes this any more difficult than any other option, is that you have to type a word. Everything else I typed was what you COULD do with the program, not what you need to do to use it.

Why on earth are you investing so much effort into this stupid argument?

EDIT: I don't actually care. Just use what ever rubbish you want.

        • @Praeto:

to use this program, you literally type:

          YouTube-dl URLOFWEBSITE

And download ONE video. Blind, with no status update, progress meter, queue, priority, etc. Downloaded to an unknown folder on the machine, too.

Why on earth are you investing so much effort into this stupid argument?

Why are you investing so much effort to "promote" a bit of geeky command line code that 99.9% of computer users are unable to use? In its raw state, what you mention is heaps less flexible and functional than a huge number of other options.

        • +1

For everyone complaining about it being a script instead of having a GUI.. It does have a GUI if you need it, one that even a child could use..
I use it to download entire playlists in 2 clicks.. find the windows version here https://github.com/MrS0m30n3/youtube-dl-gui/releases

and yes, it is the best option by far, no need to be tech savvy with the version above, not even the slightest.. Run the .exe and paste your links.. can't make it much easier.

  • Twenty dollars is a lot of money to a ozbargainer. :)

    • I see many software's are priced in USD and when we check out it just changes to AUD. I use software like bitdefender, kaspersky mobile security etc and everything is initially show me USD in their international website.

  • Can this (or any other solutions mentioned here), download purchased/rented content from Google Play (that is watchable on YouTube)?

  • Important you only really need to buy the 4kvideodownloader not this entire bundle since it also does mp3 conversion
So you are only missing out on instagram ripper but saving heaps
