  • Has anyone flown Fiji airways? and what do you think of their service / eg flight amenities?

    • +2

i flew them in december, melbourne to nadi to The flight from Melbourne to Nadi (think it was 4.5 hours), the plane was the older style (as in no individual screens), food was decent from what I ate and they were constantly going up/down offering water and drinks. Flight from Nadi to LAX was fine too, decent entertainment, decent food

ONLY problem I have with them, and this is at Melbourne Airport, the checkin system is a (profanity)ing joke. Everyone uses the touchscreen things to check in, and then you line up to drop your bags off. There was 1 worker for about 15 machines, where the (profanity) was the logic in that?!

BUT i have to say, I've flown Virgin and Qantas to LAX, and the Fiji check in staff are a lot more relaxed with the luggage. One of my pieces was nearly 40kg, guy said "lucky I'm having a good day" and stuck a heavy sticker on it

      • Definitely avoid the old planes if you can. The new ones are a million times better.

      • so would you rate Virgin's plane better in terms of comfort/food/entertainment etc?

        • Virgin definately better than Fiji, but when I flew in December, they were also nearly double the price

I've flow Fiji both business and economy to the US.

The economy product is pretty good on the new planes and on par with other full service airlines. Probably not as good as a Qantas A380 but better than the squashy Air New Zealand 777's.

Business is fairly basic compared to other airlines so only book if it's really cheap.

  • Did the same route last month. New Airbus A330s too.

Really recommend the routing if you can get a stop in Fiji.

usually the kids prices on fiji air are 60 - 75% of the adult price so this is a cheaper option for families wanting to get the Peoples Republic of Trump.

  • CHeapo air…enough said - absolutely dodgy. When to price this fare..sure it was $725 then just like that…in small writing in the confirmation screen it says the ticket was sold (BS) and its now $1200…DODGY!

Just had the same thing happen to me when checking the allotted times above, what gives?

Also, Probably better places to ask, but does anyone know if visitors to LA can indulge in their marijuana freedom?

Only for medical and recreational use…

        • In other words, all uses..

      • +2

        haha you're all good.

        • Thanks mate!

  • Bulla Bulla aren't they the old Air Pacific? Are they still half owned by QF?

    • Yes, they were previously known as Air Pacific, and they are majority owned by the Fijian Government, Qants owns just over 46%.

  • I've flown from Brisbane to LA via Nadi with Fiji Airways and wouldn't do it again.

Nadi airport is terrible. Bad food, uncomfortable seating and air conditioning that never seems to work.

The planes are uncomfortable and very cramped.

Would never fly with them again for a long flight.

  • Great airline with a great track record and improving. The new A330's are nice as and the Fijian smile/on board hospitality is next to none. Usually the 737's operate between Melbourne-Nadi - the midnight express (11:55 PM departure) ALL airlines have cut corners with food (except Emirates I suppose). All FJ flights also have a QF component & the FJ pilots were initially Qantas trained. Travelling long haul on a A330 is a personal choice. Nadi airport is going thru major renovations - like the Ring Road here in Melbourne :-) So put on your best smile, say a BIG BULA! and book away. Trust me - FBI - Fiji Born Indian.
