  • guys get the advanced or the pro… I sometimes struggle with the signal on the pro, I can't imagine how it would be with the adv.

    • -2

      Where are they available for around $500?

      • +14

        with this way of thinking you should buy a $20 mini quadcopter…

        • -1

          @dosada:
          My suggestion was: buy a better one or don't buy.

        • +29

          @ets27:

          I own a better drone than yours, Mavic Pro, and I go flying with a guy that has a P3 standard.

          This is ~1/3rd the cost of my Mavic - but he has just as much fun flying round the park that I do when I am there and the footage is nearly as good.

          Yes, I can go further than him and record in 4K - but that's not worth paying the extra if that's not what you are after.

          This is a fantastic drone for ~$500AUD and this time next year the drones that cost $1500 will cost close to $500 as has been the case the last few years, year after year.

          I think it's pretty shoddy advice to tell people who are so new to the hobby that a P3 standard isn't a good drone for the price. It's arguably the best price to feature set drone out there with fantastic flight and camera performance.

        • +4

          @c0balt:

          As an owner of the P3 Standard I agree…these things are great fun and you get to learn how to become a skilled drone user without risking $1600++ every time you launch!

          I've never lost signal or had an issue with footage quality.

          With the rate of new drones being released by DJI there is no harm in waiting - who knows when the P4 Pro or Mavic will be made obsolete?

          Buy a standard, get the skills then sell and upgrade.

        • @MrMaxwell:

          Exactly my thoughts, there is no need to destroy 2k of equipment while learning. I am sure this is more than enough to learn the basics and feel comfortable with a 2k drone after spending a couple of months with this one.

        • +7

          @ets27:

          Why is it funny? You first postured to the OP saying you have a better drone than the listing, so I responded the exact same way as you did. Are you laughing at yourself as well?

          No where did I compare our piloting capabilities - just our abilities to know what constitutes a good product for the price. You actually told people they should stick with $20 quad copters if they don't care about range. I don't find that very helpful or funny, I find it unhelpful and spiteful.

          I stand by my comments that the P3S is a great drone for the price.

        • -4

          @c0balt:
          It wasn't to say mine is better.
          It was to say: a better model sometimes struggle with connectivity.
          I lost count of people on the forums wanting to upgrade the P3A range, firstly buying fancy antennae then selling and upgrading.

          And you did not even get the meaning of the $20 thing…

          Up to you guys mine was only a suggestion.
          Want the P3S? a good machine with short range. period.

        • @ets27:
          It all depends what range will you accept.

          My Phantom 3 Pro has a range of ~600 meters in city (with interference)
          Once I move out and fly over the ocean, I get over 2.5KM range, which is more than enough for me.

          For Mavic Pro, I tried 1.1KM and no problem at all, next time I'll try to reach further.

          Droning on, and on..

        • @poporange630:
          this was my point…
          if you got 600m in the city (ehr…I hope you are following the rules…) what would be the range with the P3S?

        • +2

          This is becoming long and drone out…

        • @ets27:

          I got no more than 100m in my area for both P3S I had. Hence I exchanged it with a P3P

          You see my point, c0balt???

          @c0balt:

          Absolutely.

          I wanted a Mavic Pro or even a P4 but settled for the P3 Standard and thought I was getting a bargain at $620.

          There are a few of things that make this drone even better value.

          1. Range extender (won't get you as far as the pro but you should get 2-3x the range). Similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmL_JrVO-tI
          2. Litchi (Awesome app - makes this have almost all the features of the pro)
            https://flylitchi.com/
          3. Tablet holder mod
            http://www.phantompilots.com/threads/how-to-install-tablet-m…
            (with a little bit of drilling some blu tack and the moons gravitational pull you can mod the tablet holder from the more expensive P3 Advanced and Pro on to this little fella). Don't use the cheap and nasty tablet holders off ebay that mount onto the steel arm as they will wobble like a tea dispensing that watery goodness whilst you're flinging the controller around at rapid speed in some attempt to bend the drone to your will.

          I've only had mine a few weeks now so no mods yet and it is pretty awesome at stock, I've only ever flown/crashed my little 250 Eachine Falcon prior to piloting this luxury liner.

          You really don't need any experience to fly this thing, I would suggest to learn how to fly though, I had one incident where it was quite windy and it lost GPS and was not able to hold position in the wind (I probably should not have been flying, it was so windy) so I had to take manual control as it started to fly away. The Pro/Advanced models do have extra sensors so they don't rely just on GPS for hover.

          The Advanced model also does not have a 720P video link, for some reason, the Standard and Pro do. Go figure? Here's an awesome link on the differences between the P3 models.
          http://myfirstdrone.com/tutorials/buying-guides/differences-…

          Sorry to drone on for so long…… Here come the down votes for that joke.

    • The 3 Pro and Advanced are exactly the same except for the better camera in the Pro.

        typo. I was meaning the standard. I realized it now.

    Don't forget to use Cash Rewards @ 9.6% cashback: https://www.cashrewards.com.au/zapals

  • $518 after cashback. Not bad!

  • Only thing stopping me from a Standard is the lack of 1080p60 footage :(

    Note if you are buying from zapals that dji won't allow warranty claims in Australia. Mine has a problem with the gimbal, which is apparently quite a regular problem, which dji will replace or fix for you but not if you buy from zapals. Better off buying from Australia.

  • +6

    this is something that's going to break so please be mindful about the warranty, DJI repair centre in Melbourne won't handle warranties because this is a grey import. Just FYI!

    • and so any issues under warranty needs for it to be sent back to Zapals at our own cost?

      • yeah pretty much I guess

        • Is it worth the discount then? considering its probably alot cheaper than elsewhere even if you factor in the chance that you'll need to pay$ to send it back for warranty

        • @v00d00 AU: frankly, I wouldn't get something like this from overseas for the exact reason.

  • +1

    Purchased!

    Best spare parts I should pick up?

    • First thing I would be getting is this, costly, but fantastic add-on.

      :-P

  • another thing to note the P3 has a known issue of stress cracking under the back motors and sometimes the top.. I have replaced my P3P shell 6 times over the 10 month period.

    Luckily i purchased from dji.com directly so its been a free repair each time.. No matter what anyways says new or old frame/motor design you will get the cracks.

  • +2

    Be careful with Zapals. They say that the DJI warranty is international, but that is wrong. The warranty claim is in China.
    I bought the DJI Phantom 3 Pro last November and it turns out I got a defected remote controller (it couldnt be charged (a common issue on the P3 Pro and adv)) I tried claiming it to the DJI Australian service centre and they told me that the warranty is only for the Chinese service center in Shanghai, which means that they will not send you the pick-up bag.

    I had to send back my remote to Zapals, which costs me 60.33$ from Sydney to Shenzen China, and Zapals wont even refund me the shipping fee.

    If you do get this drone, I suggest you to try and charge everything ASAP. And see if there is anything broken or defect, since Zapal only refunds the shipping fee if you claim the warranty under 30 days.

      did you pay with paypal ??

        Oh my god.. thank you so much..
        this saved my a good $45! Everyone should know about this perk!

  • Says AU$ 528.87 for me am I missing something? Maybe postage? Yep, postage :)

    • You can go and pick it up😆

      • It's a bit of a hike … :)

  • +1

    Not a fan of Zapals (I have my reasons). If this is your first drone purchase, consider a refurbished Phantom 3 Standard for AU$520 [including shipping] direct from DJI for piece of mind. They're backed by the same warranty as a new P3S. https://store.dji.com/product/phantom-3-standard-refurbished…

    • You cant get the refurb units delivered to AU

      How did you even calculate that AU$520 price ??

      • My bad, didn't try to checkout a refurbished P3S. For the currency conversion I used www.xe.com. US$399 = AU$520 at current conversion rates.

  • Damn I just bought the Xiaomi

  • You can also mod the output power for video to 27dbm which will improve video streaming and minimize the latency between the drone and the remote. Ive tested it myself and havent had any issues to date. Do be mindful that this will void your warranty. The settings can be reverted back to stock if need be.

    Make sure to check out other threads on Phantom Pilots as there is alot of useful information regarding modding and troubleshooting that can be found.

    4k is a waste right now, even 2.7K.
    Unlesss you have a 4K TV, ain't no point.
    99% of your viewers will view it on the smart phones or tablet.
    Anything beyond 1km is also most times, a waste as well.

    I am over the "mine is 4k" "mine is 4km" when no one barely uses those features.

      Personal opinion on something he doesn't know much about.

      You know higher res allows you to crop video? Maybe get rid of those pesky rotors creeping in the top of your shot, or to get 'closer' to the action?

    I bought one of these from jb a few weeks ago. Before buying I had concerns about the range after reading dji forums etc. but after 6 flights I haven't had any problems with it. The stock range should be good for most line of sight flying- I have flown mine about 400m away with no signal problems. If you want more out of it you can build a windsurfer antenna booster for basically no cost- https://rchelimenace.wordpress.com/how-to-build-your-own-win…
    Apparently it increases the range quite significantly.

    • or you can buy a dbsmod antenna which will push it out to 3 miles for about 150 bucks.

  • I was looking at buying one, however the standard version in my opinion is just too bulky….when i saw the size let alone the size of the case i freaked, just depends on what you want to use it for.

    Personally i need portability because i want to take it on holidays local and overseas, i dont want to carry around a full suitcase just to haul it around so the Mavic Pro in that case is the best option, just waiting till the prices come down a bit.

  • After seeing this post I became very interested in this product. Did a bit of research on Youtube, Amazon and a couple of product review sites. From what I've read my conclusion is DJI produce some amazing products that really deliver all you dreamed of. The kicker is, approx 20% experience catastrophic failures resulting in loss or obliteration of the product. After weeks of communications with DJI, some users have received discounted (15% off) or full replacements. I imagine every flight must feel a little like Russian Roulette. What adds to the anxiety, is DJI seem to have a poor record on quality assurance and product support. A couple of you guys mentioned place of purchase will affect Australian warranty - (an important consideration). I started to look around at other brands and saw a similar pattern, so gave up.

    • Hope you like your new drone in 2030 when you decide to buy it

      • There are old pilots and there are bold pilots … but there are no old bold pilots :)

  • Sigh.. still waiting for this to be shipped (ordered Monday.)

    • Now cancelling this order, it's been 8 days and still not shipped.
