Last time it was merely just a download trial of the game, but now I think it may be permanent (TBC)

It's free and it promotes the Telltale series so sure. You can call it that.

… Think Duke 3D, Wolf 3D, Doom, and so on, they gave away their first episode or first few levels as "shareware" in the hopes you would love it enough to pick up the rest of the game.
It's beautiful, it shows they have confidence in their product, it lets you try before you buy, and it's a lot easier for them than making a special demo and it's better for you because instead of a finely polished luring bit of the game youre getting a genuine chunk of it.
I'm on my phone in bed nearly at midnight, so forgive my lack of care about punctuation. Shareware is the tits.

I think it may be permanent
It's not for me, it doesn't appear in my Steam library unless I install it and disappears if uninstalled.
