Metal Light Signs - Ampersand, Arrow, Open for $2 Each @ JB Hi-Fi (In-Store Only)

1320

Thanks to Price Hipster i found these Metal signs for sale. Personally i dont have a need for these but ordered one of each for pickup anyway.

Not sure of the dimensions but they are battery operated.

According to Price Hipster they use to be $30

Although these are no longer available for purchase online. They will still scan at $2 if you find any in store. I just picked up the last two arrows from my local JB store. Both scanned at $2, even when they had a big sale sign on them saying $9.95 each.

        • wtf? that's terrible service

        • I just got that call Saturday morning. Not back after ordering Tuesday night - no stock sorry - order now cancelled, you'll have to contact online if you want a refund though! Thanks JB HiFi Wangara or JB HiFi Online, whoever is responsible for this disgusting customer service.

  • Original prices was $19.95 for all three items separately. They were then put down to $12.95 for the open sign and $9.95 for the arrow and &. Now $2 what a steal.

  • Dimensions: 20 x 5 x 45 cm

That's for the arrow. I picked up my 3 today.

  • All gone at Hoppers and the Plaza.

Also, the dimensions of the "OPEN" sign is 30 x 10 x 10cm.

1 Ampersand on display at Garden City, Brisbane. Also $10 Taxi ๐Ÿš• signs in Yellow & Black.

    Picked up order this morning.
Opened first OPEN sign - looking for included USB cable (slide plastic sign out).
    ๐ŸŽ‰Found a bonus Apple A1444 USB charger $29 at Apple Store๐ŸŽ‰

Disappointed when other OPEN signs didn't have same small treat. Must have been used for display or demonstrating. I'm not complaining.

OPEN sign light box is bright after sign removed. Added aluminium foil to inside to reflect light. Am replacing sign with clear or opaque plastic sheet to create small cheap light boxes. May alternate power to the boxes for effect.

Lights on arrow are dim (not that noticeable in day) - similar to $5 Target 'star' & 'tree' marquee lights sold after Christmas (returned mine). Switch is on back - awkward if mounted on wall. Only bought 1 arrow - still to find a use.

Experimenting / getting crafty modifying OPEN sign to light box. Might be fun for children or child-like adults like me…

Sign packaging makes a good starting place to mod to a light box:
4 sheets of transparency from plastic
      2 sheets of cardboard
      Decorate & slide into lightbox 1 or 2 sheets at a time…

Clear plastic is stiff & just needs to be cut to size to replace "OPEN" sign. I used that plastic OPEN sign as template & used sharp knife ๐Ÿ”ช to cut folded ends off packaging, then trim lengthwise. That leaves the plastic slightly longer than the box - fold surplus against plastic sign to provide handle to help slide into box.

As plastic is thin - 2 can be slid in at a time. Maybe decorate back one as backdrop & draw character(s) on front transparency & move across back one in box. Create your own primitive cartoons…

Or write / draw / paint on transparency - best if plastic is translucent. (Experiment with the offcuts of plastic packaging.)

By attaching tissue paper behind or between plastic sheet - you get a translucent light box. (Tried wetting plastic & placing on toilet paper - worked as short term measure.) Try different colours of tissue paper or plastic wrapping…

Kmart & Typo sell larger boxes with letters for a lot more than $2๐Ÿ˜ฏ
Search "light box ideas" etc for Kmart & Typo - there's a lot!

Cardboard sheet from packaging could be used in different ways. Cut to size, as with plastic above.

Poke holes, cut out sections, make patterns. Cut matching vertical slits in 2 cardboard sheets & slide to reveal/hide light output. Create your own diffraction gratings (well maybe not). Experiment with sliding other shaped cutouts. Add coloured plastic. Create your own night light ๐ŸŒ™ or bedside light - slide cardboard to dim light output & change patterns / colours…

Found some 1950-70's family slides. Frame with cardboard to block out other light, so only shows through slides. Used a slide frame to cut out rectangles & taped transparencies to back. Select slides that have vivid colours or easy to see images for best effect - images are small. (Best not to use important ones - I've got thousands to choose from.) Could do the same with decorated or coloured plastic in cutouts in cardboard. Create your own stained glass images…

Just fitted small Bluetooth speaker inside box to add music to light show๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Tiny Veho 360 fits, needs to be held in place, but underpowered. Logitech X50 is louder - just fits snuggly between LEDs, not all the way to back - seems ideal for this use.

Micro-USB connection on X50 could be wired to light box power input (wires soldered to socket). X50 would be charged via light box socket… work in progress. (Light box might power off X50 battery?)

Sound is bit muffled by the box when front panel is fitted. Should work best with sliding panel with holes. Will experiment further

And some wondered what could be done with these…
Wish I'd bought more OPEN signs.

  • I havent got mine yet. So long already. WTF
