  • You can never have too many dongles !!!

LOL just yesterday i was thinking of creating a GSM farm made up of huawei modems.

      • I like to collect modems

  • Looks like a good deal. OfficeWork selling at $99.

But if it locked to Telstra network, is there a way to unlock for free or at a cheaper cost anywhere ?

    • +2

ebay get code, i think i got it for like $4
Basically you get the code, then stick a non-telstra sim card in, and log into the portal. It will ask for Pin to unlock network, and done.

The one in this offer looks to be the Older 4G model whereas the Officeworks one as well as the other one on Ozbargain from Woolworths are the 4GX version. I would try get the Woolies one if you can as it's a better deal.

      What is 4GX

Telstra 4GX brings you the fastest 4G speeds in Australia. Get speeds up to two times as fast as our regular 4G on a compatible mobile device in a 4GX area on Australia’s best mobile network.

      • check the sim use by date that comes bundled…. my target sometimes has cheap modems because the sims are past their use by date.

would be nice to get a 4gx modem with a display ….. the ones at woolies i say only had a few leds and to cut costs lcd was blanked also had non replaceable battery but at sub $30 it's throw away when battery is worn out.

This is incorrect, this model is a step up from the mf910v.
        Read the specs:

        • I stand corrected. Thanks for the information.

  • Would this be suitable to use in a car?
I'm thinking of getting one (if suitable) to use with my kogan $1 sims. Would that work?

I own one of this for more than 1 year. I use it with all different non-telstra sim card. It works within australia and also overseas during travel. As long as the data sim is 4G supported. Also, beware this dongle take standard SIM (the big SIM). don't try to use any smaller SIM and it would be easily stuck inside and get damaged.

Overall, it is a good and strong dongle, I tried and it supports 8 devices at a time without issues.

      • don't try to use any smaller SIM and it would be easily stuck inside and get damaged.

Even when we fit the smaller sim into a 'converter'?
Telstra sims from prepaid kits and instore now comes inside a cutout you can just break off depending on the size you need, and you can use the same to fit smaller sim to larger holders.

      • Was it already unlocked when you purchased?

    • For a car you're better off getting the Huawei E8372h-608 (Telstra branded one) or use the Optus version which I believe is network unlocked, but doesn't support the 850Mhz 3G that Telstra uses (if you happen to go out to the country or whatever that doesn't have 4G coverage).

I bought the Telstra version a few months back for my car to use with my Android headunit, works perfectly. Powered off USB (so no battery inside so no risk of is breaking in the hot car) and is a wifi dongle (unlike most USB sticks that only allow connection through the USB interface) so would work perfectly for what you wanted.

I've just never liked having anything that operates from a battery in my car, too much risk of something going wrong (or premature death from the heat).

      • i got one also when office works had them for $29. works well in the car and i don't have to worry about battery. when my adsl at home was dead i plugged it into my router and used the 4g at home and it worked great. i have the optus version.

Looks like extra data attached, these have 4GB included inside the packaging.

Looks like a good deal if you can find stock. Not available on line, so it would be so nice if the OP could tell us which store this was spotted at.

    • I took a look at the image data of the photo on the off-chance there was location details but alas it was a screenshot…..

  • is this the most current one they are selling ? this is a dongle right not modem ?

        World’s fastest mobile hotspot
The Nighthawk M1 is capable of download speeds up to 1Gbps, making it the world’s fastest and most feature-rich mobile broadband device yet.

      • oooh, only a matter of time until they start flooding us with the aircard 810s?

    • many dongles don't need a pc to work, they use the pc for power and are also a wifi hot spot. so you plug them into a usb charger and off you go.

saved tethering off the phone when in the car with kids and mobile phone batteries are expensive to replace so i don't like to hammer the phone battery if it can be avoided.

the telstra huawei modem looks nice but it's $129 when that is on special i will get one.

    • this is a dongle right not modem ?

not sure what the diff is. Its a 4g modem/ wifi router

  • No Stock in Target Chatswood :-(

  • There was one at Macquarie Centre but listed (also scanned) at $49 and they won't budge :(

    • you saved me a trip to MCQ. cheers mate.
I bought the Optus E5573 yesterday. battery life is very disappointing compared to this one.

    • checked at Perth City, no stock.

      the $49 one is 910v

      • They have 3x 910v at Macquarie Centre selling at $59. I told the bloke that he must be joking selling the 910v at a higher price than the 910, but he simply smiled and wouldn't do anything about it….

Given the inconsistent pricing, I reckon this must be a one-off discount at a particular Target store… but the question is - Which store???

  • Can ask who need this much data out and about? what do you used it for?

  • +2

Just a FYI to you guys trying to unlock this (for free).

I bought the ZTE Telstra MF90 Modem a while back and used something called DC - Unlocker 2 Client Version 1.00.1299 (one year ago) to unlock it. The process is the same and the model here is supported I believe in later versions.

It requires you to pay for credits (go ahead and do so if this is the way you want to do it), however there is a cracked version if you look hard enough and it works. Oh and also, malware warning. Before I ran into this software that works I found two different viruses disguised as unlockers (different program entirely). Hopefully this saves you from wasting time and running into one as well.

  • Any sign of this deal at other Target stores?

    • Perth - no stock
      Chatswood - no stock
      Macquarie Centre - $49 and won't budge
      Carlingford - $49 and won't budge

If anyone is aware of stores that sell this at $24, I'd love to know too

  • Target Bull Creek Perth only has the MF910V for $59 :-(
