Sony Noise Cancelling Wireless Earphones MDR100ABNB $294 @ Harvey Norman

160

I just grabbed a pair from Harvey Norman. Scoured the web and this is the cheapest price I have seen. Unfortunately item not on HN’s eBay store to combine with the 20% off deal going on atm.

RRP is $499.

Model is designed to compete in the category of Bose QC35. See review here:

  • How do these compare to QC35

    • +2

      These are a level below.

QC35 are compared with Sony MDR 1000X

      • ^This. People keep getting confused between 100ABNB and 1000x for some reason…

      • Err…wrong, QC35 can't compete with MDR-1000x, not in terms of the sound, not in terms of the noise cancelling. Not to mention the functionality.

The MDR-100ABN in the OP has similar NC as the Bose but much better sound - think 3D to the QC35's 2D.

IMHO Bose better noise cancelling, Sony, much better sound, much cleaner.

Totally agree. I have the green version of these and the sound is excellent. At this price they're a steal. Noise cancelling is still pretty good for aircraft and buses, but agree that qc35 is better in that department. Much prefer the sony sound though.

      • Hmm I actually bought these mainly for noise cancelling at work (office environment). Is the difference with QC35 noticeable? Picked these purely based on degree of discount.

        • whats the abttery life like, and jows the noise camcelling in really noisy places.

        • Not so much, i like qc35 cos its wireless, overall pretty much like qc25.

Aren't the QC35's lighter and more comfortable on the head then these Sony's?

    • Yeah their sound is pretty shit though, I own one. Nc is great, sound is like senheiser 201.

I owned sol tracks air before, sound quality is like heaven n earth.

Picked these up in Sony Boxing Day sale. Finally delivered last week.

Really enjoying the sound out of them, very happy with comfort and so far no real complaints. Noise cancelling is good if not perfect. I found it cuts the background sound on the train right down to a minimal level, and most voices after dulled. Strangely though there have been times when a single conversation on the train is quite audible while others around are not. Probably to do with microphone positioning.

    Anyway I highly recommend them.

I just bought a MDR-1000x. Much better than QC35. Tried both at JB Hifi.
Noise cancellation about the same (both blocked out 95% of thumping music in JB Hifi).
Sound quality the Sony wipes the floor with QC35; Bose sounds like portable radio compared to a proper hifi.

The main issue with the Sony 1000x is phone call quality. I take a lot of calls using my headphones and the Sony just pick up way too much background noise. Sounds for music however is very good (these 100ABNB are too tight for my head however)

      • And the price, mdr1000x is insanely expensive here, i bought qc35 for 399 and i still find mdr is too much.

Weren't people finding these priced close to $200-$250 around the end of the year?

    • $250 - yes, $200 - no

  • Just picked up a set at the Sony kiosk at Chatswood. Got to try them with my music, tried lots of genres sound quality was really good.
I found the noise cancelling worked well in the shopping centre.
The bluetooth range was good 20+ft
And they beat the $$ by $20
    Winner winner.
    Thanks avivadz for the post
