Well they did apologized, but just for the delay in the update of the order. They admitted that bundle is incorrectly advertised.

And yes a refund offer is in order but here is the thing, at the same time they are also offering me an incomplete, inferior headphone on one of the set. A lesser value item, less functional, whatever. But that is not my point. I ordered this "bargain" Sony NC headphones in good faith that I would received as they advertised. Yes, now I understand that they may or may not made a mistake that one of the headphone, MDR-10RNC, is actually discontinued and for whatever reason they are still up for grab at their site. I prefer that particular Sony headphone over any other specced Sony headphones that HN are offering me. Since they are so "nice" offered me an alternative, which does not suits me, I counter offer them for a similar proper specced headphone Bose QC25. I forgot to mention, after they refused my offer, the guy then also offered me a Sennheiser Momentum 2. Another lesser functional product. Mind you, Sennheiser Momentum 2 & Sony ZX220 are not equal to Sony MDR-10RNC.

When a product is incorectly advertised, what should they do? Obviously they would offer a straight refund, just like any other retails. Instead they are trying to get you to buy different product. In my case, they are TWICE trying to offer me different stuff, which are not suitable for my use. Yes, I can get a refund if I'm not happy with this optional offer. BUT I am not buying a headphone sets from them just to waste my time & get refunded at the end. When I ordered this bundle, I thought I'm getting a bargain of a life time, just like everyone else. Excuses such as headphones located on different depts is just baffled me, mind boggling stuff, a genius magic trick.

Imho, to me this sounding more like deceptive conduct. The usual HN tricks. Worth ACCC time? Maybe not.

TL;DR: Gen. Ackbar said It's A TRAP! (I want a good headphone, not Best 'N Less headphone)

Well, as they offered a refund Or alternate product as a gesture of good will due to a mistake. I don't see how they are really being deceptive. This will cost them (not us). Anyhow, hope it works out for you with whatever you choose. Perhaps take the refund and avoid HN in the future. It was save you what seem like a very painful experience.

        • @Borg: well I don't think anyone can trap us here at ozbargain as we are pretty well informed with bargains, unless we choose to fall for the trap. And I agree that HN could have taken the easy route of refunding the money rather than offering an alternative. But hey couldn't be an ozbargainer if I'm not critical of sellers ;)

        • A headphone without NC is not necessarily a lesser headphone.
          Really depends what you want.

  • Didn't get any contact all week but called online enquiries and then the store and sorted it out today. Picked up both the ZX770 and ZX220 without fuss (waurn ponds).

Did anyone notice the new catalogue for Harvey Norman? They have the ZX770 for $227 and the ZX220 for $88

Nonetheless still a good deal IMO and the headphones sound great

  • Has anyone else gotten told that they are out of stock when the website shows stock availability for the store?

    • I have been told (via email) that my order may take time (mid March) while they source stock. To be honest, I didn't bother question (knowing stock is avail) as I was happy to have the deal honered nor am I in a rush. I am guessing they are sourcing a deal with Sony rather than taking francise stock away from local stores. I may well be way off the mark (ha)! I might shoot off an email to the CS Manager that contacted me on Mon (as a matter of interest).

    • Me too.

  • Picked up my set of zx770 and zx220 today. Very happy with the zx700, haven't tried the zx220 yet.

Had originally ordered with delivery and received an email from Aspley store offering the alternative bundle but they were out of stock. The rep at Aspley store was really good though, I contacted them to see if I could collect from a store closer to me that had stock and he sorted it out and I picked them up in less than a couple of hours

  • I got a call the day after saying they had no stock, but since then I haven't received any communication (purchased 18th of February). Have escalated to a dispute in PayPal.

    Not happy.

Received my Momentum 2.0 just now!

just picked up mine, here how its went: the store people definitely wanted to give me the refund and avoid the transaction.

Here how it went, Wednesday received a call from local store, offering refund: told i need some alternative instead of the refund. Agreed to send an email.

Got an email it took one day to arrive(from local store). Offered to choose between 220 and 770, NOT BOTH just one. Replied I will obtain the alternative. Never got a reply.

Tried calling the store for two days (not successful, the guy at the other end keep saying the product is not available, even the alternative).

Then today I called online inquiries (they seemed to act as intermediary, and very helpful to sort the things) The person called my local store and redirected me to the initial lady who sent me the email. Then said you can come whenever you can and collect it.

When i went to the store, the guy told 220 and 770 is not available (although i could see it in my own eyes). I told that i was told that than product is available, it took him about 10 minutes to ask the lady who sent me the email.

When they gave it to me they took off the pricing labels, which i don't mind but, I feel very intimidated by the behavior of local store. I felt like they were acting frustrated because of me, which is unacceptable.

The online inquiry line is very helpful, and they knew whats going on. However i got to say experience was not that nice unlike for most of you guys.

Bottom line: if anybody who is having the problems with obtaining the alternative and not being contacted, just call their online inquiry line in business hours. They are very helpful and sort the matter for you in no time.

    KUDOS to HN online inquiries.

  • I get the feeling that some stores hope to make it difficult enough so that people will ask for a refund instead of waiting for stock.

  • I called my local store and they said they had no stock, but passed it on to a different store that did have stock. I called the 2nd store and they said they had no record of it…

  • +2

Bloody frustrated, no contact at all. Not even an out of stock email. I've contacted them twice and no response since. Get it right!

    • Same here. Just sent a request for refund. I will no longer purchase anything from uncle Gerry. Thank god Amazon is coming.

      • -1

You have done exactly what HN are hoping for i.e. requested a refund.
Patience is a virtue and $118.40 for the two products offered is worth the patience. Having said that, perhaps you don't want them or are the inpatient type, in which case a refund is absolutely the way to go :-)

        • I thought it would be the other way around: hold your money first & convince you to get the other inferior product. In typical Gerry's way. :D

Doesn't matter now, I had enough with Hardly Normal. Was planning to get that nice coffee machine from their store (with $10 discount!! woohoo /s), but coz of this fiasco, I rather spend my money elsewhere in a happy-no-stress land. As for the headphones, what they offering me, IS NOT the headphone I want. In my case ZX770 would be the "bonus point", but ZX220 is like WTF? Not even close to MDR-10RNC! Good gesture my gold shiny a$$.

Anyway, final lesson learned & bye bye Gerry. Goodriddance.

PS: I hope you read this, Ger.

HOLD ON - I just recieved email today with offer of two sony BT headphones or Senheiser as a replacement

      Dont cancel just yet

      • Except one of them is crap…

  • Just received ANOTHER fresh email offering me the alternative. Same first email, different sales rep. I think mine is stuck in infinity loop. +_+;

    Paypal dispute time!

    • just call 02 9763 6891 mate, they are pretty helpful no matter what shit your local store gives you.

  • Excellent. Mine has just shipped and should be with me tomorrow. Looking forward to them. Already have an interested party for the zx220 for $80 thus the ZX770 for $38.40. Great stuff.
PS: The ZX220 aren't bad but I already have the ZX330 and use all the time. Love them for Skyping or general around the house listening to Audiobooks, webinars & general stuff incl movies. Don't write them off as crap as they are far from it. The are not for Audiophiles though.

    • Crap compared to mdr-10rnc

      • I used to own the mdr-10rnc a couple of years back and never found them particulary great (for me at least) so gave them away.
I do agree with you though that the ZX220 are not the same nor on a level playing field. Regardless getting the ZX770 for what ends up costing me only $38.40 is a great deal in itself. I just hope they are good (yet to arrive with Aust Post).

  • Can anyone confirm if the ZX770 when received were shrinked wrapped in plastic or have a seal on the box. Mine arrived today and didn't. The ZX220 were fine and shrink wrapped. Just checking as I dont want a display model!

    • same. in the store i saw that 220s just hanging on some shelves but 770 was inside a locked display cabinet. i presume they do so because 770 box is not sealed.

      • Thanks for confirming and was also told the same by Store. Sony stupidly don't seal them. How would one ever know if they were new and untouched (especially if one planned on selling them on). Not to worry as plan on keeping them as I am happy with the sound and the noise cancelling works great. I live near an airport and I was amazed when a 747 flew over (it was a Qantas which are the loudest of all). I tested with no music playing and then flicked on the NC button and hey presto silence, turn NC off and the 747 was clearly loud. Ok………I know, its what they are meant to do but can confirm it does it well. Only thing I am not a fan of is the Ear Cups. Will probably get sweaty over time (am guessing). Thanks again for reply

  • Mine came with no shrink wrap so i opened the box to see that content was still brand new not used. Seems 👌

Could i please ask - Did you guys ask for delivery or store pickup?

      • Initially Paid for and got delivery. I probably could have requested pickup but wasn't in a rush.

  • Mine was for delivery, too lazy to pick up.

  • I think it's a good choice having it delivered. Some stores seem to be fobbing off the pickups

  • Had mine for delivery. After a few emails they said they'd send it out last Friday. Yesterday I asked them where it was and they said that they made a mistake and it's on backorder. They expect to have it some time in April but maybe later. They were quick to get back to me each time I emailed though so that's pretty good.

    • That's silly if they are saying it's will be April or later. There is plenty of stock around various shops last time I checked. Email them back and kick up a little bit of a fuss noting that there is stock in the shops and so far you have been happy to wait……but April or later, seriously! They are probably hoping you can't wait and ask for a refund to save them the loss on the cost of these.

  • Wow just wow, emailed asking if they new an ETA yet and was told early April, hopefully. Starting to turn in to a joke.

    • You better ask for a refund & stop buying from them lol.

      Got mine refunded.

    • Or if not in a rush, hold out and get supplied with a pair of ZX770 and ZX220s thrown in for good measure all for $118.40. Got mine a couple of days ago. It's worth waiting for unless you arent fussed in which case, get the refund (which is what HN are probably hoping you aks for).

      • Ill wait for a bit longer as i would really like the ZX770's but they better not delay it more as they originally said mid March.

        • After waiting two weeks already, I'm definitely not giving in now

  • Stock is becoming available I was told I had to wait until April, just had a call to say stock has arrived and my order is available for store pick-up!!

    • Can i ask what store that was?

    • I had a look this morning and noticed one of my local stores now has stock listed. Emailed the other store to ask if I can pick it up from there instead. Not holding my breath for a good answer but they have been pretty quick getting back to me in the past.

      • And I've already received a reply. They basically said that they can't get stock from other stores because other stores are low in stock and that I'll have to wait until April.

        • Funny you say that i just got another email this time saying…

          Good Morning Zach,

          Thank you for your email.

As per our previous correspondence, we are still awaiting stock replenishment from Sony with no visible estimated time for arrival at this stage.

Again, we apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

          Best Regards,

This is after i was told early April yesterday :/

  • I never received any communication after replying to their initial email offering the bundles or refund.

Did this happen to anyone and did you have to call them?

    • I raised a case through the website then they emailed me offering the bundle or refund

      • Except I was offered the bundle already via email. Guess I'll call them up

Got an email from Vic, Maribyrnong store saying stock has arrived and will be shipping today.

    • +1

thanks for this. I have my order assigned to this store too so here's hoping I get a similar email shortly.

      • -1

Our waiting has finally paid off! I pity those that decided to refund and end up buying it more expensive elsewhere just because they can't wait for it.

  • Received mine yesterday, Dandenong Victoria branch. Very nice set of headphones.

  • Harvey Norman really came through on this one… apparently they had over 400 orders.
I ordered 2 sets, one for my brother and one for me.. turns out he didn't need them so I sold the extra set + my pair of 220's for more than the cost of the entire order. So now I have a free pair of 770's plus cash… couldn't be happier.
Big thanks to Daniel from Harvey Norman Loganholme.

Edit* and a big thank you the OP Naughtynaughten!

    • Yeah thanks to the OP!

  • So just called up asking wtf is happening with my order and was told they dont have any idea when they will get stock!

  • anyone else still waiting? I wrote them an email a few weeks ago, got told still waiting for stock on one of the ordered items in the new bundles

    • Still waiting. Called them two weeks ago said they have ordered stock from overseas but not sure when it will get here..

      • Me too. Guy at Aspley HN advised it would still be little while possibly end of April and recent QLD flood contributed to the delay (Haha).

  • I just received them today. Very Happy

  • Received mine today- worth the wait!
