Amex free flight - Where would you go in Oz?

I have a free return flight from Perth which I need to book ASAP (although the flight can be anytime during year). I don't have to take the flight but I do need to take a short break to de-stress from work and domestic duties.

My thoughts are Melbourne to snowboard at Falls mid year. Then I've swung to lazy options of sitting on a beach somewhere and so Hamilton Island looked like a way to go in September (fly to Brisbane). Neither of which I've been to before.

So everyone's different but would just appreciate destination ideas and thoughts on where others would choose to go within Oz for a short solo getaway.

    Port Douglas Via Cairns.

Lots of oldies there and plenty of relaxing spots by the beach.

  • The snow in falls isnt that good anyway. save the snow for Japan or something

Go to the whitsundays. dive, ski, and hook up
You'll need to connect Brisbane to Townsville or Mackay though.

I also thought to leave skiing for Japan.

I believe I can fly to Bris then catch a connecting flight straight to HI. Was looking at grabbing another Amex card with travel bonuses to cover that leg.

I live in Adelaide. I did not vote for it :P

    • Yeah the BYO diesel generator requirement for Adelaide is a bit of a turnoff.

  • Hamilton or Hayman Island. Sep - not the rainy season and temperature mid-twenties. Seems perfect to relax :-)

  • Melbourne is the worlds most liveable city. Why would you want to go anywhere else?

Sell it and use the money for a trip to Vietnam. Otherwise I'd say Melbourne or Sydney.

  • Thanks got the replies. Brisbane got a great start but Melbourne has the legs now. But what to do in Melbourne? Or is it a vote for skiing?

Great Ocean Road, wineries (Yarra Valley/Red Hill), Philip Island, watch a live show (Book of Mormon?) …

  • Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to follow zappy's suggestion. The flight is now up for sale.
