The offer has been increased, at least it was for the code they sent me today as a current user, to $30 for a new user and $150 for adding your car to the system within 30 days.

  • anyone ozb members have any first hand experience renting out their car?

Yeah it was only a drive by shooting, armed robbery, 3 speeding fines and a suicide car bomb explosion later.

Yes I've had my Mazda 3 on the system for about 4 months now earning about $400-500 per month. Summer is their busiest period for rentals and generally vans and utes are the most popular vehicles that get rented out. As an owner you pay a $60 fee per month which covers your comprehensive insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance, GPS and being on the CND platform. You set the hourly/daily rate to renters. From a commission point of view owners keep 50% of your car's first $240 of hourly income each month; and 75% of your car's hourly income above that. In addition you receive 25c for every kilometre that is driven. The booking system is very flexible and as an owner you also are in control of what days/time you want the vehicle available. The CND support team are very responsive/helpful and there is a great car owners community group on facebook too. In the short time I've been them I've already paid for my annual registration and made a little bit of extra money on the side while I'm at work.

Also have a car with them for about 7 months. My experience has been a bit more up and down in terms of income but overall worthwhile.

  • Hi, what is the meaning of 33c /km which includes fuel? Who is paying for the fuel?

    • The borrower/renter of the vehicle pays 33c /km.This covers wear/tear of the vehicle to the owner and in turn owner's of vehicles are reimbursed 25c per km driven

  • Thanks

  • How old can the car be? Mine is 2002 make

    • IIRC that might be too old but there is a FAQ on the site.

  • What happen if there is an incident during rental? Does it mean you need to add the driver every time they rent a car?

Also, I suspect you need to meet them in person to give the car key? What happen if the person duplicate the car key?

    Thanks

    • Insurance is included as part of the rental. if they don't report it, you can when the car is returned.
Car Next Door do all the checking on people so they take all the responsibility. Not sure it is a totally thorough process as I have heard of some problems but the buck stops with them.
No need to meet with people, there is a lock box provided and the renters get the code to open.
Yes I guess that they could duplicate it but they also install GPS tracking so you can find your car if taken/stolen (not visible to owners while out being rented)
