Lenovo IdeaPad 510-GV (i5-7200U, 8GB RAM, 15.6" FHD, GeForce 920MX) $759 (Free C&C/ $7.95 Delivery) @Harvey Norman

130

Was shopping around for a laptop and couldn't believe the price on this one. It could use a SSD and maybe more RAM but for the price and provided specs, it seems like the best bang for buck for a 7th gen Intel CPU.

  • wow good price.

  • Previous deal was $788, also from Harvey Norman: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284899 . I think the configuration is identical, but I could have missed something.

  • Would this be good for all purposes? Study, home laptop etc?

    • I'm curious to get some feedback from someone who owns this but for most purposes, aside from gaming, this laptop should be fine for home or study with its specs.

  • Anybody know if these have docking stations for them ?

Also would get graphics card be enough to power 2 x 23' montors (1920x1200) + the 15.6 laptop screen??

    • It is a 920MX, not anywhere close to a desktop gtx card.

I bought this on the previous deal ($788). Graphics card is (still) listed incorrectly as 920MX. It is in fact the 940MX.

For those interested, I found the laptop overall ok except for a persistent issue of the fan always running, even at minimal load, low temps, etc. Rate varied of course but always audible and annoying to me. Mightn't bother others. Related discussion threads suggest it is likely a bios issue. Tried everything re a fix so not really looking for suggestions. No real help from Lenovo. Been sitting in the box since Jan. Will prob sell. Bummer, as would be good value otherwise.

    • Thanks for the feedback! I'm not too fussed about the sound of the fan - I've been using a laptop cooler for the past 8 years which has become a little noisy over the years so I reckon I can put up with the laptop's fan sound!
