  • It is now $48.40 for me on Media Form.

    • Yeah, that's the price…

      $48.40 + $18.70 = $67.10

      You are forgetting delivery.

  • There's a similar model without wifi that often can be had for half as much, the Brother HL 1110
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/brother-hl-1110

  • +3

I just bought one of these from Officeworks last week for $66. Wife has been printing quite a lot and it is good. The extra is worth it for the wifi model. Printing from mobile devices and other computers in the house is an advantage.

      I have one too.

Print quality isn't the best and it curls the paper a bit.

Saves printing everything on the inkjet though.

Look up on YouTube what to do when the low ink warning comes on and you'll get another few hundred pages out of the toner.

      • Starter Cart has about 700 pages approx in it, although you can probably push 1000-1200 before you start to kill the toner / developer inside the starter kit, all depends on your coverage as well, if youre printer word documents / basic text then it should last a while

Print quality settings may be set to toner save by default JV, also ensure you're printing at 600x600 not the emulated 2400x600 crap that Brother likes to default on the machine

Paper curl is a big issue on the cheap printers due to the fusing system to bond the toner to the paper, easiest way to reverse the curl is to load paper in the opposite way which should keep the curl to minimum with the cheaper printers, works well as the pages come out flatter rather than turn into posters upon exit

Not a bad machine for what it is, its cheap and nasty but certainly price per page is much cheaper than any inkjet on the market (excluding HP dry ink machines but we are talking 600-1200 for those models)

      • Agreed, it does man-handle the paper a little, but not sure what can be done about that.

I changed the default print quality from 600dpi to HQ 1200 and that seems to have made a difference that my wife noticed, so that is something that can be done if you wanted higher quality printing. Probably uses more toner as well.

For day to day simple stuff, I think 600dpi would be ok.

        • Its only a 600x600 engine
It uses S-LED technology and thats why it doesn't look as good as a laser based machine (laser is much finer and accurate vs S-LED machines)
Being a tech for nearly 18 years, True 1200dpi machines very rarely exist due to cost.

        • @shawncro 222:
Yup, I know I'm not getting 1200dpi from a $68 printer, but I'm happier with the quality of the output I'm getting, compared to when it is set to 600dpi

        • @BlackVY:

Emulated by digitally enhancing the image to fit more pixels per cm in, either way smart technology for what it is, be aware you are using more toner by doing this as you're increasing the fine lines etc within text / photos

Most of Brothers stuff you could swear is ripped off from Xerox with design and engine specs etc

      • I get you JV. I've got a Brother hl-2135w, it won't let me use the printer when it says toner is empty.
A few magical presses of a few buttons to reset the guage and the allegedly empty cartridge prints 1-200 more pages.

  • Slow Processor / Limited RAM
Anything more than basic word processing will choke the crap out of this unit

Good budget printer though, plenty of aftermarket / OEM equiv toners etc but certainly not a long term device, basically a landfill printer once it requires a fixing unit / Maintainence kit

Drum Unit is Good for 10,000 pages

http://www.inkstation.com.au/brother-dr1070-compatible-drum-… 39.48 before shipping (vs 109 OEM Genuine) - This is for the DRUM Unit Aftermarket Kit - Well recommended Inkstation

Toner http://www.inkstation.com.au/1-brother-tn1070-compatible-ton… 25.79 before shipping (Vs 63.79 for OEM Genuine)

Overall a good cheap little printer and consumables aren't too bad, but once it does life, bin it, anything more than drums and toners is just not worth it and 12 months warranty is a testament to this as well although consumer law may be in your favour if say the fixing / fuser unit dies

  • No duplex, no deal

    • It does it manually

  • Note i just went to officeworks to price match. They will not due to the warrenty. This website requires you to take printer back to them where as officeworks do not. Please remove from title.

    • so price match with itspot or megabuy

      • have you done this before? I dont really want to walk all the way back there for rejection again.

anyways your title is still wrong, maybe ill try a different officeworks

        • Sounds like your local OW doesn't like price matching why wouldn't you go with the cheaper options in the 1st place?, or at least try them while you were there?.
