  • seems to be the cheapest price in a few months. any comments on price on this one as opposed to local stock with the bonus offer?

    • Samsung pay unavailable for HK/international models

      • Anyway of getting samsung pay?

        • +5

Buy the australian model of the phone

        • If they use the same CPU (exynos) which everyone does except for China and Hong Kong version, I'm pretty sure that you can just flash another region's rom and presumably Samsung pay will work. Do a bit of research yourself on xda though as I'm not 100% certain.

        • +1

Yes, Samsung pay is perfectly working on my taiwan/international model. Just had to flash to Australian firmware which only took me few minutes.

      • +2

Not quite correct. These models can be flashed with a standard XSA (Australian) firmware, and use Samsung Pay, no root or any other modification required. They will even get all Australian firmware updates. Source: my wife's G930FD with XSA firmware

What do you call the security guards outside of a Samsung phone store:
      >
      The guardians of the galaxy

  • so tempting…………………………….

  • The S7 that is available for this price is the dual sim variant. They are selling the single sim version for about $10 more. I would think that having the dual sim capability is better - are there other differences that make the single SIM S7 a better phone?

    • Yes. Dual sim ones haven't got their Nougat update yet and has no definitive timeframe for getting one.

      • I have the dual sim s7 edge and got the nougat update a month or so ago.

        • I stand corrected. I have a Hong Kong version s7 edge (G9350) with dual sim but haven't got the update. The wait is killing me.

    • I have 2 phones of note 5 dual SIM and assume my issue is the same as S7
One SIM will be 4g (and other band if unavail)
And the 2nd SIM will default to 2g.
Pretty useless having a dual SIM and 2g turns off soon.
Can anyone confirm this if same on s7

Other issue is the sms default will always default to the 2nd SIM a few hrs after I change back to SIM one.
Does my head in. Spoke to Samsung at their kiosks and they have no idea as not a Aussie phone. Said the new USA model is dual 4g. Whatever that is.

Very disappointed since I have paid out twice.

      • Yes the second sim will be irrelevant soon but I don't observe the weird sms behavior on an S7 dual sim flashed with XSA firmware

Bought the s7 edge on Aug 2016 from t-dimention. the phone was shipped from HK, and for the using region is UAE, made in Vietnam, dual sims. Great phone until after using 3 months app start freeze and bootloop, the battery is hot…. until Feb 2017 the phone is totally dead, and had to sent it back to t-dimention for
8 weeks repairing. I paid 740 for the phone, the phone is great but unfortunately I got problem with it. hope they can fix it.

    • Only thing I could think of is normally Root and 3rd party developer support. Not sure if this is the case for S7 though.

    • +7

i have bad experience with them. purchased a nikon d800 a few years back. camera was DOA, sent it back and requested a new one. they said it was the battery which wasn't the case, but i had no choice as i needed the camera. after an year the camera developed the same issue. would never every buy from them or recommend them

      Why the negs?

      • +8

        Wrong phone

        • -2

Thanks for the reply. I was suggesting an alternative that's $200 cheaper for those that can't afford the S7 or don't want to pay that much in case they drop it. Local stock of S5s are almost not available anymore and good value for $367 instead of buying a crappy $200 phone.

        • @abacus: >Local stock of S5s are almost not available anymore and good value for $367

If you want good value for sub $400 you can get something like this. $367 for a 3 years old tech is not good value.

        • -4

And if you don't like grey imports? This got 73 positives a month ago. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288282. My family all have S5s, along with millions of other people, and we are very happy with them and I'm annoyed I got 12 negs while the above got 73 pluses. Easier not to comment anymore, I was trying to let people know that in a few weeks you won't be able to get a S5 if your budget is around that mark.

        • +3

@abacus: and you can get an S3 or an S2 for even cheaper! This deal and comment thread is about the S7 so your reply is irrelevant, hence the negs. They're just imaginary internet points though so don't let them get you down.

        • +1

@abacus: If people are afraid of dropping their phones you should recommend this to them: https://www.nokia.com/en_int/phones/nokia-3310

        • -1

You can't get S2s S3s or S4 anymore. I was using a S4 for two years and I can't really notice much difference to the S5.

      • Because there are twats in the world and some use OzBargain. It's got more miserable over the years.

  • What—no Note 7 in this deal?!

    • No Note 6 either, wdf?!?!?

    • Gives new meaning to Hot Special. Samsung Europe had launch of tablets today. Poor guy had to grovel so badly about Note battery, as they all are.

  • +1

DWI have the S7 for the same price on eBay. Which would be the better store to buy from?

  • -2

All international/ grey market import Samsung phones have no warranty by Samsung in Australia, such as Units from sites such as Kogan, please be aware.

    • -4

      Not true.

      • -1

        i agree

        • -1

lol what is australian consumer law.

    • Warranty is irrelevant. Look up consumer law. As long as the company is Australian, you are covered. Kogan is Australian. These chinese sellers are not. You will be on your own if a fault develops. Only buy from from Australian companies. I have learnt the hard way.

  • +5

Nah bro, imma get me a S8.

  • -4

important phones are not as good as we get here… the model is completely different I have compare it with one of my mates Samsung S5 who imported it. And the battery gets hot quickly so does phone.. don't recommend imported product.

    • -1

      "important"…

      • -1

        this autocorrect :-P

  • What's the difference? Aren't they both manufactured in the same factories?

    • +1

Internal components differ between single and dual sim units. All Samsung phones designated for the Australian market are single sim only, whereas overseas units have dual sim capabilities. If something goes wrong with the unit, authorised service centres are only able to service Australian models.

Easiest way to tell if it is an Australian model is by looking at the back of newer units (from S6 onwards). Australian models have a tick in a triangle symbol.

Also The Australian model designation is SM-G935F (S7 Edge) and SM-G930F (S7) both without the D at the end.

      • +1

The only internal difference is the SIM tray. Otherwise hardware of G930F and G930FD is identical, just disassemble both and look for yourself, the difference is in firmware, however as many here already pointed out, you can flash XSA binaries on FD models and they will look and work as normal Australian ones.

        • Is that easy to do?

        • @gorab: an hour job if you have a slow internet speed (download the firmware req'd arnd 250mb if I remember correctly) with some 15 mins reading on the instructions in sammobile. I flashed my telstra to no carrier rom, and gifted to my sis sans the telstra bloatware and startup screen.

Anyone know of any deals on the S7 Edge 128GB model at the moment?

I prefer not to deal with dodgy international retailers like T-Dimension as well. I saw some pretty good deals for the 32GB variant on ebay, but personally want the 128GB.

    • just put a sd card in it

      • My current S5 is 16GB and completely full, this is with 0 music, 0 pictures/videos. It's all from apps and their respective memory amounts which I need to continue functionally using each app, and I've already had to delete so many of my apps. I already have an SD card for my phone too which is where all the other stuff got moved into, but unfortunately there's not much I can do with the apps and app data that I would love using more of on my phone. :(

      • Samsung SD memory is not adoptable.

  • Very tempting. T-Dimension or DWI?

    • +1

Whichever you choose, it's just a phone. There is another one cheaper at $522 (single sim) after disc. from applyyeah in eBay and sold 158 units with 98.2% ffeedback. I would even buy from him had I wanted an S7.

My experience. I have bought more than 8 samsung/sony/xiaomi/oneplus phones from hk sellers, and not one failed in last 5 years. Keep in mind Samsung is a global brand boasting quality and reliability. You have to be really unlucky to fall into the very small percentage that needs warranty. I won't pay 5% more for warranty because it is equivalent to buying a car and pay stamp duty. It adds value in a situation when you need it, but dead money in the other way. Stamp duty is completely useless if you don't argue the benefits you might get from it.

If paying more buys you peace of mind and happiness then the choice is obvious. I personally won't.

      • Thanks will look at applyyeah in EBay

  • +1

I bought a Note 5 from t-dimensions and gave it to a friend. She dropped it and the screen didn't turn on but they shipped it back to their warehouse for free and fixed the screen because it still had warranty. I'd buy from them again.

  • Has anyone actually ordered one? I ordered a HTC 10 from them (T-Dimension) yesterday morning and it still hasn't shipped. I'm not bery patient…

    • Ordered a S7 three days ago… still not sent.

      • The 10 that I ordered arrived this morning, so 3 day turn around. Hopefully yours isn't too far away.

      • Ordered mine last Tuesday and arrived yesterday. (S7 Edge)

  • More than 10 available
    Almost gone

    Yet none sold… wdf

Why? - just come back from a long holiday involving many airports. Samsung outlets were empty - not a single customer. Also airport lounges & planes would not allow them - had to be handed in. They are a fire hazard. Also remember the debacle of their washing machines a few years ago which also caught fire? -Keep away until they source all their electrical problems, fix them, test them thoroughly. Will not consider any of their products.

  • Is there actually an Australian stock version of the S7 Edge that is also dual sim? Or would I have to get a grey import phone if I wanted the dual sim version (I understand it's 3G/2G)?

    • No, what gave you the impression that grey import only support 3G/2G? Australia is not the only country with 4G.

      4G bands
      LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500) - G935F, G935FD

The global version(G935F)(which is the onle Australia get) and SEA/India version (G935FD) have identical 4g bands.

      • Sorry I meant that the second SIM is only 2G, I should have clarified SIM1: 3g/4g, SIM2: 2g. Does the Australian version support dual sim?

        • Edit: Been looking into this and there isn't an official aussie version that's dual sim.

        • +1

Yeah, if that what you mean. The second sim does not support 4g. And no Australian version doesn't support dual sim.

  • Hey Ozbargainers, what would you choose between the Samsung Galaxy S7 ($548) vs Oppo R9S ($543.42)?

I understand that the Samsung S7 was a flag ship phone, while the Oppo is considered a mid-tier. I'll be able to get the Oppo for cheaper as it's Australian stock and I'll be able to claim the GST back due to going overseas.

  • This or the upcoming Moto G5+ ?
