  I was going to buy the smaller one for my kayak but when I saw this on sale at approx the same price I bought the medium one instead. I guess it won't have trouble keeping me in place…

    Depends on your style, but I would see if you can exchange it for the small one. The small one is already overkill for Kayaks and weight and room in kayaks are already at a premium.
    
    I personally tie my rope at the lower hole and put a loop of 15lb line at the top hole and around the rope.
