960

A good price for Philips 13W LED light bulbs, previous lowest price is $12.

You can try to price beat it at Bunnings for $9.
Bunnings Warehouse lowers it's price to $9.90 to avoid price beat.

    Decent quality LEDs

Nice. I'm sure Bunnings will beat the price by a cent come Wednesday.

  • For some reason I thought these were the smart bulbs. Sad to see that's not the case.

    Free from here.

Not quite the same is it? Ugly slow CFLs swapped in for old incans. And undisclosed LEDs for halogen downlights, minimum of 10, starting at $5 each.

      • +1

All 100% Leds now. Can swap cfls for Leds as well. I swapped 22 globes, plus 3 led floods, and 2 energy saver powerboards for nothing.

I don't have downlights. But was looking at building a new house. Led downlights were about $25 per unit extra. I would just get stock Downlights and then get these guys in at $5 per piece, and yep they said that includes all labor and any extra wiring or change of transformers required.

They also offer a showerhead if you want it. But mine was better, so gave it a miss.

Downside. I waited 4 months before it was my turn (but I live 400km out from the cbd and it was free. Cant complain).

*edit- saw I got 2 negs last post for letting people know you can get LEDs for free. Tough crowd!

        • -1

But they arent the same bulb,at least not that i can see. So maybe a forum post, or a deal thread of its own would get better reactions… these are old style light bulb LEDs.

        • @Tuba:

Not entirely sure what you mean by old style? But I bought LED bulbs from O/S maybe 3 years ago when people in the shops looked at me like I was from another planet. These are definitely not like that. I haven't seen anything newer?

In terms of performance I would say the warm whites they gave me are on par with a 75w Incandescent. You could chose cold white if you preferred. They aren't Philips, but not what is listed on their site either (I think Mirabellas). Either way, for free (well swapped them for CFL's that were in place) they produce a very good light.

Whatever the flood light LED's they gave me are $30 each at Bunnings (a decent sealed unit).

        • -1

@tunzafun001: Old style, as in the style of bulb pretty much everyone used for the previous 40 or more yrs. Incandescent bulbs, bayonet cap. These are LEDs that fit those sockets. And they are a premiumn brand name.

You said the same premium brand name was free at a site you appear to be associated with. Or more accurately you left that part out, they arent the same but whatever. Thats why you were negged I assume. I cant be certain as I never negged you. Then you said tough crowd. No, maybe they dont agree that any brand is the same. Last, your link does not say LEDs for free, it says CFLs and charges you a minimum of $50 for LEDs to swap out halogens. Maybe they do have LEDs too, but your link does not say that and Im not psychic.

I understand LED way too much already.

          @Tuba:

ok, I'll have one last crack at this…

I'm not affiliated in anyway. You can use any REES company you want.

The LED globes they provided are as good as it gets as far as I know (tech wise). In my opinion the FREE Mirabella's LED's they gave me are better than the Philips listed here, but each to their own.

All I know is this YESS one gave me a mix of 22 Edison and Bayonet LED globes, plus 3x flood LEDs for my security lights at the front for free, zero, zilch, no charge. The internal LEDs look like this:

          http://www.mirabella.com.au/products/globes/led-lamps/gls/le…

If the link says CFL's then they must have a lazy person looking after their website. I contacted them via phone. Might be worth ringing to check. Can't see why they would go back when they removed all my CFLs and replaced with the latest tech LEDs globes I have seen to date. Also have a warranty on them and they will replace them if one blows in 12 months I believe.

As for replacing Halogen downlights with LEDs, there probably is a $50 minimum as they employ a local sparky to do the conversion. But getting an LED downlight globe and the job done for $5 each (or even getting a sparky out to do just one would cost more than $50 these days) is a BARGAIN!

Not sure what you meant by this "I understand LED way too much already", so ummm yeah.

In summary, If you don't have downlights and want a whole house of LEDs for free, go for it. If you have downlights and want them converted for pretty much the cost of the globes alone (min $50) go for it. If you want to pay $10ea per globe and get the Philips…fair enough.

        • @tunzafun001: Ill have one last crack…

OP, posts about deal on specific wattage bayonett cap LED bulbs from a particular brand at the cheapest price they can be found at.
You respond, FREE from here, yet your link says not free, and not the same in brand, wattage or style of bulb.
Next to your name, is the word ASSOCIATED.
Then you suggest people negging you are a tough crowd.

Note, no opinions in my post, just facts.

        • @Tuba:

You need to check your Facts:

"yet your link says not free" - For the style/ generation of bulb listed here. They ARE LED & 100% free https://yess.net.au/residential-rees-services/

"not the same in brand, wattage or style of bulb" - Not the same brand but within 1 watt. They are 100% the same style.

"Associated" - Associated with "Woolies", who are ironically selling these globes, who I'm telling you to save your money and don't spend it with. Maybe you are with Woolies and want people to buy these things?

FREE LED GLOBES - from any Energy Efficiency Scheme supplier is the theme here. LED globes can be obtained for free, you don't need to pay for them (unless you really want a Philips globe, maybe ask around, I'm sure one of them have free Philips globes. I just happened to choose YESS and had a positive experience and thought I would share it with my fellow Ozbargainers who i'm pretty sure if presented a choice between a $10 Philips LED or a free Mirabella LED, they would go the Freebie. Both quality products.

I'm getting the vibe you don't understand the government funded schemes, so here are some alternatives:

          http://rees.agl.com.au/households/household-retrofits/

or maybe (for non SA people)

          • PS - Businesses are also eligible. Do it for the environment and your wallet.
        • @tunzafun001: Follow the bouncing ball.

What subsequent links might say, is not the link you provided first. Youre just internet defending your failed post, and ignoring the timeline of events.

They re not Philips. Maybe you dont care, but some do. So they are not 'free from here'. Fact.
The link does not say LEDS swapped for incans, it says they give you CFLS. Its your link.
The LEDs they do offer on thatlink, is swapped for halogen downlights, and you must spend $50 to get them. Not exactly free. Again your link.
You say they do, and youve used it. Fine, I dont care, thats not what the link says, and my post preceded your assertions.
You complain about a tough crowd, but they followed your link.

I even suggested if its a good deal, accepting your subsequent assertions, make a thread. It could be, but your link does not say it is.

I have these 13W (or 12W back in the Dick Smith days) in the kitchen and they are great for kitchen use, but too bright for an average size bedroom.

    • I agree with this. /\ I recently bought a 6W warm white LED. After years of false claims by other globe manufacturers about the incandescent equivalent light level in regards to CFs, I was skeptical it would be anywhere near enough. I put it in a tall lamp that stands behind and to one side of me, when playing a piano. The room has a horrible oyster light fitting mounted under a ceiling fan. When your back is to the fan, your body casts a shadow over what you're facing.

I would say the 6W warm white is similar to a 60W pearl incandescent. i.e. What most bedrooms would use.

I also just bought a 13W LED for that horrible light fitting I just mentioned. The fitting has two globe sockets inside an oyster glass, mounted under a ceiling fan. (Meaning the two globe sockets are mounted sideways.) So half the room is now lit - but there are still shadows cast everywhere. And I can tell that will still be the case once I add a second globe in the other socket, to try and light the other side of the room.

However the 13W is too bright where it does light the room. So it would be too much for most interior purposes. It's the terrible light fitting that's making it necessary. So I'd say a 13W warm white is equal to a 75W or even 100W incandescent pearl. i.e. Typically used outside the front or rear door of a house.

I can't believe the prices we pay here for LED bulbs. In the USA you can them for $1. Some are government subsidised. Some are just cheap to get people to buy LEDs. Alot better for the environment then CFL.

    • There's a reason ultra cheap LEDs are the way they are:

      1. Government subsidized. You're paying for them even if you don't buy them.

      2. Ultra low quality imports. You can buy alleged 60w equivalent LEDs off eBay for $4 delivered from China, but in my experience they have low light output and very short lifespan. I tried a few 'eBay specials' and they failed to deliver on both counts. At least with Philips you get known light output and good lifespan.

If you can buy Philips 1400 lumen LEDs in the USA for a dollar, please post a link. There is a large quality difference between Generic No Name Lucky Brand, and a brand made in China but backed up by proper design and quality control.

      • Phillips LED technology is mediocre at best! Its the last brand i would chose!

This thread is old but some one posted last week with 13-14 watt Cree bulbs for $1 i will try and find the thread.

          Aren't cree bulbs 120v/60Hz only?

        • -1

@CH: I can't tell you. Most likely they should be universal because I doubt they will be running at 120v they should have a buck driver in them to stepdown the voltage if that can handle 240v input I don't know. LEDs should be a bit better for international use.

But I was giving an example of $1 light bulbs in the USA and how we are paying to much.

          @aussieprepper:

You should buy some and import them over. If they're any good I'd buy some off you

  • im currently using the 10w 800 lumens ones and they are awesome, bought about 20 of them for $9 each i think. Stuck with the cool white as I like the clinical bright white look.

For some 18 months we have been using LUMINUS brand LED globes throughout the home.
These provide better light than the old 60w incadescent globes.

On Costco special the pack of 3 is about $10, normally about $12, so that is not much more than $3.50 each.
The only failure we have had is one which was attached to a dimmer switch, these globes are NOT dimmable, so fair enough, our bad.

They look exactly like the Philips from Woolworths at their $10 each and as I said 8.8w is more than enough for the average room.
Available in both Bayonet and Screw Base, plus Daylight (5000k) or Warm white (3000k), with 8.8w LED = 60w Inc. (820 lumens).

In my experience, a much better buy for rooms in our house compared to the Philips globes.

  • good price, but has been better (surprised price hasn't dropped actually) - no reason to update / replace any of the dozen LED 10W globes I bought 1 1/4 years ago. Coles brand 10W LED globes, pack of 2 for $10 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220372

  • +1

Does anyone know where there's a good deal on dimmable LED bulbs? I have converted all but 5 of the lights in my house to LED due to the last 5 being on a dimmer switch.

  • Is anyone aware of someplace like https://yess.net.au (free LEDs) for NSW homes?

  • +1

The 6W and 9/9.5W Philips globes also appear to be 20% off at WW.

    6W = $5.60 was $7
    9/9.5W = $8 was $10

Bunninngs have not price matched these yet; get in quick.

    • Went to bunnings this evening and got the 9.5W globes price matched for $7.20.

      • You don't find them too bright? (For what room? From my experience, I would have thought they're close to 75W pearl incandescents, which would be too bright for many bedrooms.)
