  • I've been waiting for a better price for The Witness. It's usually around $20 at best so this is a good deal. Thanks OP.

    • +1

Same. Was hoping it was 12 AUD but beggars cant be choosers.

  • Can you just pay the 12 USD, get the Witness (and/or first month's games) then cancel?

    • +1

Yes, this is what I've done a couple of times.
You'll get Witness right away, and you can cancel immediately and still get the rest of the bundle when it's released.
Note - If you're planning on buying something else from the Humble Store in the next month, don't cancel right away as you get 10% off in the store while a subscriber.

      • +1

Are you sure about this? I was about to cancel just now and it's giving me big warnings saying this:

"If you pause, you'll lose these subscriber perks for one month. If you cancel, you'll lose them completely!

        • Your curated monthly bundle of games
        • 10% off in the Humble Store

        "

I understand about the 10% off, but this makes it sound like you lose the games in the bundle if you cancel.

        • I've cancelled early early both times with no problems. You can wait until the games are released and cancel after if you want though. It will let you know when you will be charged again.

I'd say its just referring to the curated bundle for the months after the one you already paid for.

    • Every now and again I really like the bundle. It's good now because they have added a pause button to the subscription.

  • Will this run okay on a shitty 5 year old computer?

    • +1

Plenty of 5 year old computers will be fine, performance hasn't improved that much in the last 5 years.

Do you know the basic specs? CPU? GPU?

      • -1

if you truly think there has not been much improvement then you have no idea.

        https://www.futuremark.com/hardware/gpu/NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+6…

^according to what i googled the GTX 690 was the most expensive and im guessing the most powerful also 1k cost
and it gets matched by even my R9 390 which isnt any where near a top card today.

        • +1

Sure it doesn't quite match an R9 390, but it is considerably older and it still gets close. PC games are generally made to run well on mid-tier cards for the last few years to give them the biggest market possible, with some additional graphics options for higher end cards. RAM and CPU speeds haven't improved that much in the time frame either (although they are less important to gaming than the graphics card).

A five year old computer with a mid-tier graphics card would do just fine with The Witness, seeing as it has a fairly low minimum requirement.

        • -1

@Adamiam: my R9 390 is barely a mid range gpu i was just using that as an example to show how much gpus has advanced.

I wasn't disputing that it could run the game i was disputing your claim that gpu's has not made a significant improvement in the last 5 years.

cpu and ram not so much but still lots of improvements on there part.

while gpu's are continuing to push as pc gaming is moving to 4k which is only just hit stable 60 fps with the GTX 1080/GTX 1080ti without lowing everything to look crap.
could do anything close to that 5 years ago.

        • +1

@Axelstrife: Sure, these are all great points. I just want "first in line" and others to know that the advancements in GPU technology aren't significant enough to make older PCs obsolete and they should still be able to run The Witness. I never claimed that GPUs haven't made any significant improvements, but what improvements they have made seem irrelevant here (people using an older PC generally aren't trying to game in 4K).

      • performance hasn't improved that much in the last 5 years.

Mostly true for CPU's, GPU's on the other hand have improved significantly.

        • -2

"improved significantly" is a long way from "5 year old PC can no longer even run current games", though.

  • Steam says this game has "partial controller support" .. can anyone comment on what that means exactly? I'd be wanting to play it via a steam link on the couch.

    • Depends on the game, but it usually means that you can use a controller for normal gameplay, but not for everything - some menus, or something, still require a KB or mouse.

      • Ahh yeah, it probably just means the menu system, options etc.. *hopefully anyway!

    • +1

      It has controller support.

Dunno why it says partial. The only thing you do in the game is move around and solve puzzles.

So yes, it will work with your steam link.

    • +1

played it using an xbox controller on pc no problems

  • -1

    There's nothing humble about $15.80…

  • annoyed that Subnautica (and Super Meat Boy) were sold out by the time I saw the Freedom Bundle…would have bought it!

I do want the Witness, but in no rush to get it. on the fence on whether to jump on this (and hope for the best that the reveal throws up some other decent games I'm interested in), or just wait for deeper discount on The Witness in future…

I haven't really been that impressed by any of the previous monthly bundles.

    decisions, decisions.

  • The game is good but it is seriously making me nauseous, only played for 5 mins I feel like barfing. Any tips on how to make this game less nausea inducing?

    • Take some anti-emetics. Or be like me and just give up on first person games. I managed to not throw up while reading on a bus but I didn't have the desire to do so for first person games. If you keep at it, your vestibulocochlear apparatus will eventually bend to your will, but it will take time. Anti-emetics will make things temporarily, but can have side effects. None are over-the-counter, you'll need a script from your GP.

      • Wow thanks, I didn't know you can take meds for it. I'm still suffering from the after effects barf, why are people like us so weak :(

        • +1

You don't want to play VR then.

        • @Elijha: I actually tried it our in the Microsoft store. Not sure if it was because the game doesn't let you move much, but it was a shooting one where you are standing on a stage shooting robot ball things that fly up. I didn't get nauseous. Still very apprehensive about getting VR because I'm stared I can't play half the games.

  • Shame you have to choose between getting the steam key OR the drm free version. You don't get both.

  • So it seems to be impossible to tell what games come with these Monthly Bundles (other than the headline game)?

I was tempted by XCom 2 last month but still have no idea what the other games in that bundle were.

  • Should point out to anyone still on the fence about price, I don't know if it's selective, but as a first time subscriber to the monthly bundle, it gave me 10% off the price, so this one actually only cost me US$10.80 :)

It's great btw. Just avoid the temptation to look up solutions.

  • So you have to wait for the extra games to be revealed before you should cancel your subscription? Can someone please let me know what the window for cancelling will be.

    • I think you have to cancel before Mar 31, 2017 (but safer to cancel today), if you don't want the next bundle.

  • When you go to cancel it says - now you won't get the curated games (I.e. the april games in addition to the witness). Is that really how this works?
