or simply because their device (mine included) has no problem. I think you guys take one youtube video too seriously.

      • +3

Because it's fine? If you slam a bazillion people into any product they're going to find flaws.

The very fact they had that scrutiny is considered a success in my books.

      • sour grapes ?

    • -2

Wow.. This is disappointing. I was hoping to get one later in the year, I guess I should be glad I've waited to see how release goes.

    • +5

Everything has a failure rate. You sell a million units, it wont be hard to find people making videos with broken ones.

      • -6

Correct, but this ones failure rate is off the charts.

        • +3

Is there any actual evidence of that? I know four other people who bought one, nobody has had an issue. I remember when the PS4 was released and the press was awash with "blue light of death" this, "faulty HDMI" that. Now its generally considered to have been one of the least problematic console releases of recent generations with a small failure rate.

        • @Jamie007: Goes without saying, YMMV. Good luck with your switch!

        • +3

          @hashtagbargain: Asked to provide proof

Sure, let me give it a try.

          Ahem.
I know the alternative facts. Switch is bad. Anything else is good.
Lets build a wall around Nintendo, and make them pay for it.

The console only has currently FOUR game released right now to play.
idk about you but spending $469 to play 4 games of which zelda is the only one that's actually ok and not some dance /skylanders/party game.

    It's also too expensive

Damn all im seeing on my news feed is joy con problems, sticker skins ruining the console's finish, screen problems.

and then theres some thing i read about dead pixels on the screen and Nintendo saying that's not a defect.

    I think it's crap.

    • +34

      Never had an issue Axelstrife

      1. Screen defects - Mine is fine, no dead pixels whatsoever, although you can certainly get it exchanged at eb games not a problem within 7 days
2 Joy con issues, mine are fine, hold the thing properly and use it normally and it works great, once again more nitpicking by people
      2. Sticker skins, wtf? why would you decide to buy a 469 console and then ruin it with cheap sh!t stickers
      3. Zelda is great, lacking games at the moment not a huge issue as Zelda will tie me over until then

The fact I can play then undock and continue is the big win for me, I am quite happy with the unit and just hope the future games / support live up to the hype
For what it is, its not expensive, people throw 1300-1400 on an iphone once a year, even for a launch device with an Nvidia tegra top end custom cpu and gpu 469 is very good value for money considering you're getting a pretty good console / portable device and it seems to be well built (drop tests proved 12 drops before it stopped working but the screen didn't crack)

I am a little tired of people bagging out very MINOR release issues, Joycon signal issues aren't even a big deal, common sense when it comes to wireless signals

You are entitled to your opinion but to say its "crap" without holding it nor using it (from what I can see from all the whingers so far) you really can't make judgement until YOU try it and YOU see it for yourself

I can deal with 469, hell people spend more than this on "crap" from here

        • +27

On the same note, just because ONE person has a few issues doesn't mean everyone is going to have issues.

It happens on the launch of every product launch be it phones, laptops, cars or whatever.

Either you take a risk on the first batch and exchange if it's faulty or wait for the second gen devices to fix the flaws.

        • +10

@twig: I can ensure you the issues are affecting more than one person.

        • +5

          @Sage:

So many people wouldnt be having issues. And if you are. Return it and get a new one. A bit of a pain, sure but not like it'll have to go in the bin. In fact with Australian consumer Law I wouldn't be afraid of any of the defects reported so far.

I'm also on the fence but I agree that it has way more to do with game selection, the future of online and the potential discomfort of the joy cons than fear around a dead pixel or a dodgey left joy con.

        • +5

@ewanw: I can't see how you can return it for having dead pixels under Australian law, when the manufacturer doesn't recognise it as a defect. Good luck with that.

        • @crift85:

that's why Costco is a good choice

        • @crift85: Nintendo said that it's a common issue with lcds in general, and not a defect exclusive to the switch, which is true. Stop misquoting.

        • @Aids: How have I misquoted? I paraphrased and Nintendo don't regardless of reason. Secondly I couldn't tell you how many LCD screens I have floating around the house, but I can tell you how many have dead pixels. I find it poor that Nintendo would choose to use second rate panels in a nearly $500 console. Though maybe they figured you wouldn't be able to notice the dead pixels after you had put your switch in the dock a couple of times and scratched the crap out of your screen.

        • +1

@crift85: No manufacturers recognise a few dead pixels as a defect, it's just the nature of LCD screens. Most will replace them for free if there are over a certain number of pixels within a certain area, but a dead pixel here or there is unfortunately just part of buying anything LCD. Nintendo aren't alone here - Sony didn't replace the PSP or Vita over a dead pixel or 2 either. Acer/Asus/Samsung/etc are the same for their monitors/tvs.

        • @Aids: I haven't had dead pixels in over 10 years, and I've had many LCD displays.

There is only one device I've personally had a dp in, and it's a stuck pixel, not a dead one. And it's not always visible, depends on what color the pixel is meant to be. It's hard to notice and off to the side, so not a big problem. This was a PSP2000.

It's not as 'common' as Nintendo says it is. At least not anymore.

        • +1

Now please go fangirl about it else ware

          Its elsewhere.

this was meant to be a thoughts post which i gave.

So shawncro 222's thoughts which he gave aren't valid yet yours are? Who's the (PS4/XBOX) fanboi here?

        • +4

@crift85: It isn't up to the manufacturer to decide if something is a defect or not. Dead pixel is the device not working properly and doing what it is supposed, end of story, it is covered under ACCC law. Go read the their website.

        • @crift85:

It's actually quite easy. You argue why it's a defect, the manufacturer doesn't. The court arbitrates. That is why there is a small claims court - a consumer has a problem where the manufacturer is saying there is none and the court arbitrates that fact.

Manufacturers and businesses always try to absolve themselves of fault, that's the way a lot of businesses operate. Extended warranties mean nothing to me. If I'm trying to negotiate a deal, an extend warranty provides absolutely no incentive. If my battery dies in 2 years on my surface I'll have no problem to ensure Microsoft comply with consumer legislation.

        • @MrFunSocks:
Actually I had a Dell replaced for 1 dead pixel. I think there are a couple of manufacturers out there who allow replaceme ts like this… agree with your comment in general though

      • +6

Tegra X1? They've barely customised the damn thing (other than underclocking here and there with GPU and memory). I doubt they could've done much with Tegra (some people argue otherwise), that said it's not cheap. Nvidia TV that comes with a remote and a controller is $200 USD. I personally think that's slightly overpriced because it's been at that price since 2015.

I personally think of Switch as a portable console that can be a home console considering its performance (and the fact that the dock is just a connector). I think that was an intentional tradeoff and I think it's genuinely cool. What I dislike is the price. I personally think the price point should've been lower.

p.s. Of course the screen didn't crack, it's plastic.

      • This isn't exactly on point, but Zelda will tide you over. When I read your comment I was curious as to whether I was wrong or you were, so I looked it up.

      • if you treat it as a tablet, at 469 dollars its quite reasonable? vs the old samsung A, high cost due to brand name

old rules of LCD screen, if a 3x3 has two dead pixel it's defective
stuck might not consider as defective

full screen with more than 3 or 5 then its defective (got to check out the international standard)

    • +4

The thing about reviews is that people with negative experiences are a lot more likely to post than those with positive ones. Often resulting in a biased skew such as above.

Disclaimer: Do not own any console. Not fan of any console. Love my PC

    • +8

So roughly 2 mill sold so far, no more than 100 units have complained about issues.
      Blown out of proportion much?

It's not much more expensive than echange rate + shipping.

It has more than 4 games.

Can be portable which is the best feature by far.

      • +1

I am Setsuna is incredible for those looking for a second great game at the moment and havent played it on steam and ps4.

        • I'm travelling to Singapore, Malaysia then Japan at the end of the month, Singapore has "English Box Art Hard Copies" of I Am Setsuna, hopefully I'll be able to pick one up then.

    • +1

Just to reply to the sticker skins issue, if a 3rd party sells a product with an adhesive not compatible with Nintendo's product coating it is not Nintendo's fault at all….. If they're a reputable sticker company they should know a little about how their adhesives work and interact

      • The company that was producing the skins put out a warning not to use any. They discovered the issue during development. They have not released any, but lesser known companies have.

    • I'm not that impressed but will get one eventually because Atlus is making games for it.

But I won't be paying $469. $300 is my limit, and even that is pushing it.

I have a Wii U so if I want Zelda I can play it on that.

  • I'm sure Wii U owners will feel left in the dark now that they wont get as many new games, and eventually none at all.

    • +6

As a Wii-U owner, I came to terms with that concept in late 2015. At E3 last year when they had NO event, and just showed us Zelda and Pokemon, it was easy to deal with the breakup. No reasonable person was still expecting Nintendo to be loyal to its fans after Star Fox Zeroes.

That said, Zelda is a pleasant surprise and I am enjoying it immensely, but even still all the OoT fans are up in arms about it because it's not Ocarina of Time 2. I guess nobody told them that the more you ask Nintendo for something the more likely Nintendo are to intentionally make it into something you didn't ask for (Paper Mario, anyone?)

      • Same here. As soon as I started hearing rumours about them working on a new console I knew they would hold their trump card (Zelda) until its release. No way would they have risked releasing their most anticipated game on the tiny install base the Wii U had and miss out on the opportunity to let it drive launch sales for a new console.

I decided to sell my Wii U stuff last month and ended up covering the cost of the Switch. Very happy so far, no dead pixels or controller syncing issues. Honestly though I'd buy it just to have MK8 on-the-go, I put hours upon hours into that game on the Wii U. Zelda should keep me occupied until its released at the end of April.

        • You play single player MK8 on the go or wifi?

I don't like gaming on wifi due to lag, and it's not always available. Switch doesn't support LTE so it's your only option.

        • @lostn:

Well you're going to need an adaptor for an ethernet connection, it's been like that since the Wii U. I never experienced any issues with lag on the Wii U and I was playing in matches where people had an average global score of 14K, at that point everyone has memorised the tracks and one misstep will drop you a few places.

MK8 seems to be pretty forgiving when it comes to your internet connection, should run pretty well off of a hotspot. There's also been the promise of 'local wireless multiplayer' but Nintendo AFAIK haven't elaborated on whether you'll be able to do this independently of a wireless network. As internet becomes more widely available on commercial flights it will make for a good time waster there.

  • +22

    I own it
    I like it

  • +6

I am a huge Nintendo fan and at present I have no real interest in this console. Seeing the issues going around and the lack of games, I am finding it really hard to jump on board. I'm happy to wait it out, while they address quality issues and have a couple of exclusive titles for me to make the plunge.

    • -4

Thats a fair call for you, I have NOT had one issue yet

      • +9

        Cool.

  • +11

I own one. Fantastic little machine. Very versatile. Not sure its worth $470 at the moment with only a couple of games but Zelda is phenomenal

    • -2

IMO not versatile YET. and yes i own one

      • Do you know what versatile means?

        • +5

Competent in many areas and able to turn with ease from one thing to another. This is nothing but a Zelda machine right now. Hopefully r/3dshacks will change that

        • +1

@tomkun01: competent is subjective. But if the three different controller styles and easy switching between screen and handheld isn't versatile to you, then nothing is ever going to be versatile. I'm not saying I'm sold on the switch yet (only got it last night) but to say it isn't versatile is being dishonest.

        • -3

@ONEMariachi: to put it in context, my phone is much more versatile than the switch. hell, even an idevice is more versatile than the switch!

        • @tomkun01: Why are you comparing it to a phone? It's console. The only things worth comparing it to are PS4, and Xbox One.

        • -1

@ONEMariachi: Which have a range of apps. One even has VR capabilities. PS4 can stream. Blu ray player. all this, vs. zelda machine

        • @tomkun01: and they have been out for 3 plus years now. The Switch a week, give it some time.

        • @ONEMariachi: right. It's not versatile at the moment.

  • +2

Apparently it's one of the fastest selling console by Nintendo (early sales figure wise).

Other than few issues I've been hearing, it looks alright. Some of issues sounds like it's going to stay (screen scratching, reminds me a little of what happened with early 3DS), some of them sounds like a QC issue. The Joycon wireless issue might be a QC issue (so might only be some batches) or a design issue.

I am hoping it sells well. I honestly think it needs more games for me to consider buying it. $300+ for a game is too much, $300+ for a system with a few games me and my girlfriend want to play isn't (Especially with BoTW). A large consumer base probably will cause influx of games from third pary, if it happens. So I personally am on let's wait till the console gets a momentum camp. I might even wait and see whether they release a new version of Switch (like new 3DS).

      • +6

Wii was a failure for fans? By what Metric?

      • +5

The Wii was widely considered a big success.
The Wii U on the other hand…

    • I get consoles based on their games library. I'm with you, too early to tell whether the Switch will be worth getting.

      • I am hoping for Switch to get some momentum. Large enough consumer base would probably help with third party developer involvement.

Though a huge part of me is going, I don't need a portable console. We will have to see. It already has two games that made me interested (Disgaea 5 and Zelda), probably 3 if I take a guess (Monster Hunter). Though Disgaea 5 is on PS4 (probably would run better as well) and Monster Hunter on 3DS kinda made me iffy about it (graphics was awful enough to get in the way of immersion and they really should've done away with loading between zones).

  • +1

I love the concept… I hate the execution.
If this thing was released in 2013 it would've been not too bad, but its frig 2017 and the hardware is obsolete.

    If I could, I would:
    - Make the tablet smaller/portable
    - Make the screen slightly smaller/better ppi density
    - Make the buttons larger
    - Get rid of the hidden buttons and Ir in the joysticks (gimmicks)
    - Increase the battery size (from 4,000mAh to 6,000mAh)
    - Have an active cooling fan in the dock to allow turbo mode
    - Upgrade the (handheld) graphics from 0.4TFLOPS to 0.6TFLOPS
    - Upgrade the (docked) graphics from 0.6TFLOPS to 1.2TFLOPS
    - Allow the easy porting of Xbox One/PS4 titles to the Switch
    - Use 14nm FinFet lithography rather than 20nm straight-wafer
    - Use 4x ARM Cortex A72/A73 instead of the A57 cores
    - Give it 8GB DDR4X-2133MHz RAM
    - Have 64GB UFS internal storage

…Now it should stay as relevant as the PS4 and XB1, and they look like they will stay mainstream until 2020.
Effectively giving the Switch a 3-4 year lifetime, until it's due for a subsequent upgrade.

    • -3

Read the patents for the system. (might shed some light on your gimmicks)

Augmented reality coming to a switch screen near you.

The Augmented reality engine required a fraction of the processing power about 20 % of what was needed to run full VR, if the patents are actually true your getting the full system for what you paid for the headset alone on all other systems those gimmicky controllers are what the other companies had been struggling with.

Nintendo is going another direction from the main players

Not all roses and accolades for Nintendo though. hated the fact that Zelda required a software update (thats the crap i find unacceptable) you buy a supposed finished game that isn't

I'm prepared to give it some time though knowing what is potentially there.

      • Too bad, because the Wii seemed like a great idea at the time.
The gimmicks faded away fast and people then started buying Xbox 360's and PS3's.

People have their toys phones to do all those extra features anyway.
I rather a master of one, not a jack of all trades.
I know what too many "features" can do to a products hardware, software, and experience. Even moreso when its compact and mobile.
Time will usually prove this right, though I hope I am wrong about the Switch.
(i wasn't wrong about the PS4 and its performance when released, I said an upgrade would come soon)

        • you need to let people be happy with what they chose to buy not neg every aspect of it and have people having buyers remorse because the sky has fallen down because you can't put a sticker on it.

you came up with your specs make it!!! show them how its done fix the PS4 while your at it. oh you did have a caveat (If i Could)

Your forgetting that all consoles are trying to become jack of all and there isn't a master of all FML i have a phone that thinks it's jack of all

Being right about the PS4 doesn't make you a visionary anyone could see it and they are still making mistakes right now pro has had tones of issues

it's a more expensive debacle than subscription tv

Not one console can meet all your needs

I have all the consoles for the unique games you can't get on the others

best value right now would be xbox 1 s under 300

the trouble has always been the developers don't really get to push the system close to it's limits till EOL then we have a new round of waiting for software houses to get up to speed

they need to develop in conjunction with the game producers

        • @Toons:
(If I could)… means I'm limited to do so in some capacity.
For me the capacity is power, money, and time… you give me those commodities and I'll build you a worthy Switch-console.

But from my knowledgeable perspective, Nintendo has cut too many corners.
They're in it to make a quick buck, rather than a long-distance thought put.
Big N just wants to pull another "Wii"… but I think its too difficult for them.
          Why?
See the PS Vita. Also competition in terms of PC Gaming (an increasing demographic), PS4 (dominant console with most games/hitting its "sweet spot" lifecycle), and phones (iOS/Android gaming landscape is HUGE).
It's just an uphill battle through-and-through.

I STILL think the Nintendo Switch will be successful.
However, its mostly thanks to marketing, some 1st-party games, and indie ports.
But NOWHERE near how successful it actually could've been.
They could've really showed both MS and SONY, but they're not starting off so strong.
And remember, consoles lifespan is usually over 5 years…. a very long time in terms of technology.
          Hardware is underpowered.
          Target price is too high.
          Potential to improve is low.

Maybe there might be a "Switch 2" in 2022 which might address the concerns I put forward.
But by then people might be hesitant to buy it, due to experience/buyers remorse.
It's what happened to the Wii-U…. people who sold their Wii, decided they didn't want to chance it, and stuck with their PS3's instead.

** for instance, the original Xbox had a similar uphill battle, but they did what nerds like I wanted, and lo the console was a massive success!

        • @Kangal: Cool.

    • +2

From all the hate comments, you are the only one who has made actual, valid suggestions about what Switch should have been. Bravo! I 100% agree with ya!

    • And they wouldn't have sold any because they would have been over $1000.

      • Not really.
Firstly, these large companies sell the hardware cheap or at-cost, with the knowledge that they will make all that money PLUS more in terms of accessories and games.

Second of all, the most expensive component I suggested was the SoC. Qualcomm's flagship goes for ~$70. So let's say they enhanced the SoC and the price is now an "absurd" $100…

…that still means they can sell this console at US$299. Or even cheaper at $399 Australian.

I like the fact that BOTW launches with the console, but they should've added a few more launch titles.

Like I said; great concept… not great execution. It's like they just outright copied the Nvidia Shield Tablet and Razer Edge PRO.

        • +2

Don't get me wrong, I would all be for a drastically more powerful console for $70 cheaper, but it's a pipedream. There is more that goes into getting a console from the brains of Nintendo's hardware team into our hot little hands than just the cost of raw parts.

        • @johnno07:
          Yeah I know.
Nintendo is more excited about saving $10 on parts, whilst upping the cost price another $70.
Those $80-$100 profit margins stack up nicely.

I just think they're the underdog at this moment in time.

          Gaming Market:
          1- Mobile gaming = 51%
          2- PC Gaming = 39%
          3- Console gaming = 9%

1- Apple is in first place in terms of profits gained by the iOS mobile segment.
          — Google is in second place, with very low profits but much greater market share in the mobile segment.

2- MS is in third place, not because of Xbox but their Windows/Gaming market.
          — Valve is in forth place, they're larger than MS in terms of market share, but are heavily reliant on Windows.

3- SONY is in fifth place, they're much much smaller than Steam.
          — Nintendo is a very distant last, much smaller profits and market share than SONY.

…so its a smart idea for Nintendo to get serious about mobile gaming and home consoles.
Which is why the Switch is a fantastic concept.
It's the execution that is lacking.

Someone at Nintendo is smart enough to realise the potential. It's too bad the rest of the company managers want to see quick cash rather than a long-term, market-shifting type of product. That's where the Steve Jobs of the world do best.

        • @Kangal: What's you source for these numbers? Sounds like an interesting read!

        • @johnno07:

Just watch this. Traditional gaming is king.

          https://youtu.be/UaPJiqIRvxU

        • @Circly: I tend to mostly agree with what is said in that video, but I'm not sure what it has to do with any of my comments.

  • +11

To keep it short, I think it's an absolute rip off at $470 and there really aren't any games worth getting the system for unless you like Zelda.
Nintendo have only announced a couple of original games to look forward to. I don't think they're taking it seriously enough.

Overall I'd say there is potential, and I like the look of the Joy-Con controllers. But currently it's nowhere near worth owning.

With previous systems they had backwards compatibility, a web browser, and Virtual Console games to keep us busy at the start of the lifespan while games are still being developed but the Switch doesn't have any of those features.

Well said. If they supported the Wii U library I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

  • I'll end up getting one but waiting to see what Nintendo will offer around Christmas time.. I've been waiting for Zelda this long, I can wait until Christmas I guess.

If you dont mind emulators, you might be able to play BOTW on your PC (you can run the game ATM but there are game breaking issues.)

      • Switch emu already?

        • Ah, Wii U emu… I've got a Wii U, but I'll wait for the Switch :P

  • It's crap this version. Wait ..

    Screen isn't IPS . It's also plastic.
    Floppy Dstick.
Charging port on bottom means can't connect to battery pack with hen standing. Charged and play is annoying.
    Only has zelda

      The screen is an IPS.

It's plastic for durability, it looks great.

Put a glass screen protector on it and you have the best of both worlds.

Not a big Zelda or Nintendo fan but I'm very happy with both the hardware and the game so far.

  • I'm probably different to most. I wasn't too interested till I started learning more just near launch..

I really want it but as posted up top the games and future make me hesitant. I think I'll wait for some sort of combo with switch + 1,2 switch and choice of link or another joycon and then take the plunge.

That's a lot of separate issues being replicated over and over.

Remember just because you have no issues, doesn't mean there's not rampant issues and problems at Nintendo QC. Just because you are fine with your plastic screen with TN panel, doesn't mean others are allowed to be upset at not getting an IPS with Gorilla Glass for the price. Just because you don't like to put skins on yours, doesn't mean it wasn't advertised as having skins on it and that other people want to. Just because you think 4 games on launch is ok, doesn't mean that's ok. Just because.. well you should get the point by now.

The fact that people are having to open up joycons and solder in a wire as an antenna that Nintendo forgot to put in and is causing prolific reception issues, should be recall worthy alone.

Better to have the discussion in a Reddit thread I saw, as it appears being critical of anything Nintendo (on this forum) tends to bring a flood of downvotes.

It's impossible to recommend getting a Nintendo Switch until the issues are fixed and there's more than 1 game worth playing on the store. Has there been a worse launch of a console? Or a launch with so few titles? I don't understand how Nintendo allowed this to happen, surely they could have ported over a few more titles!? The only game worth playing on the Switch is a Wii U port!

As an owner of a Wii U - you Switch guys have it worse than I did.

    • Rubbish.

At its pricepoint there shoudn't be complaints about it having a plastic screen, particularly when a) it's not a smartphone/tablet, b) the touchscreen is seldom used, and c) its core purpose is to play games and for it to be used in a way that increases the chances of it being dropped, necessitating durability. No one ever complained about the gameboy/advance/ds/3ds having plastic screens.

The joycons may/may not be an issue but honestly until the extent of it is fully known- ie is it a fraction of a per cent with issues or is it as wide-scaled as Samsung's exploding batteries, it's foolish to base a rational decision of this.

Like modifying anything, it's not the manufacturer's fault and the responsibility of the user.

Name me a recent console that launched with good games. Exactly.

Certainly people can voice concerns. Most are wrong.

      • the switch costed significant more at launch compared to the other portable consoles. also most of those gameboys had clam shells designs which inherently protects the screen somewhat. more cut about the screen quality really

  • I'm having pretty bad Wifi issues with my switch, it seems to have terrible range. I'm sitting 3 metres from my router and it usually only has 2 bars of reception and dips down to 1 sometimes in this range.

My Modem/Router is an ASUS DSL-AC68U and all of my other devices get a solid 3 bars around my entire apartment, I even get 2 bars from my parking spot outside some really think walls.

I don't even have many devices connected to the router, it would be less than 10.

If I'm in my room, which is only 2 rooms (maybe 8 metres away from the router) my reception is terrible with only 1 bar, and speed tests are all over the place not even reaching 1MB sometimes. Even my 3DS XL gets better reception in my room.

Is anyone else having issues? People on reddit seem to be having similar issues, and there are some articles online about it.

    • I have the same problem with the wifi. Placed next to my TV it cannot get signal, while I have chromecast streaming HD netflix at the same location (but not at the same time). I need to sit within 2 meters, and line of sight of the router to download anything.

I've been loving mine even only with the one game, but if you're not 100% committed to buying one now then I'd wait till more games are out and the console feels a bit more 'established.' Right now only 4 games is ridiculous especially if you don't care for Zelda especially when the system is so bare bones (no net browser, etc.)

Own it, love it, no issues here.

I noticed mine has a wobbly right JoyCon, which is slightly annoying when in handheld mode on public transport. Apart from that, I've had no real hardware issues. As mentioned above, keeping line of sight does help alleviate the signal issues, I only had the issue once when I had the controllers blocked off with my legs.

Software wise, if you don't want BotW, there isn't really much else for you right now. There is more than 4 games though, where I enjoyed the Snipperclips demo they have on the eShop. No other demos on the eShop is annoying though… something else would have been appreciated. Other games via the eShop include a bunch of NeoGeo titles and ports of mobile games. Snipperclips and I am Setsuna could keep you going for a while if you wanted some other time wasters.

For some upcoming titles, the Switch definitely won't be the best looking version of the game, but being portable is definitely appealing. Games like Ryme, Yooka-Laylee and other bigger indie titles will be coming to it, so if you are travelling a lot, they could have that as an advantage.

Graphics wise, it honestly looks great on handheld mode, and surprisingly great on a 60" TV. Framerate in BotW does slightly drop when there is heaps of grass on the screen, but so far, it has not been serious.

Waiting till Christmas (maybe even 2018 in case they start to do revisions like with the 3DS). By then I hope, there'll be a decent library of first party titles, a smattering of third party titles (maybe more if it takes off), indies, Virtual Console , and stuff to look forward to in 2018.

Until then, my handheld gaming will continue with my 3DS, and home gaming on PC (thinking of doing some hardware upgrades as well).

  • At first I was like meh but now I really want one especially for the portability. It def needs TO get at least 1 or 2 of these sort of games NFS, COD, GTA, RE or Watch Dogs.

I don't have one. I got Zelda on the Wii-U.

Unlike most people apparently, I buy a console for the games it has on it. If I get a PS4, PC, Wii-U, and a decent phone, I have nearly 90% coverage of all games coming out. Because the Switch, at the moment, doesn't have any games apart from Zelda that make it worth the purchase, the concept of buying one is entirely baffling to me.

It's like when everyone ran out and bought a PS4 and Xbone on release and then it collected dust for 2 years. I'm just gonna watch the market for a year with the Switch and see if it's actually going to follow through on third party titles this time. The Wii-U was a great console, just a bit behind the times. It's good to see they've stuck with the same concept as I believe that a portable screen'd console is a necessity for any kids growing up sharing a TV at home, however it really does look like they're learned nothing, as the launch is still weak.

If their lack of respect for fans of franchises like Metroid, Star Fox, and F-Zero (meaning to say, there hasn't been one in more than a decade) is anything to go on, then as a Nintendo fan I would urge you to watch from the sidelines. If you really want Zelda and you have no other options, you may have to bite the bullet and buy a Switch, because the Wii-U is a dead console, but if you have a Wii-U already just get Zelda on that.
