Same price with Big W online https://www.bigw.com.au/product/samsung-galaxy-s5-white/p/WC…

They also had stock at Big W Hurstville.

  • Same as Officeworks

  • Still remembered days when it was around $567 not long ago.

  • my lg g4 got the dreaded powerloop issue. just returned to kogan. need a replacement phone. is this good or wait till Samsung s8 comes out to push the price cheaper. or see what kogan will offer. im using my old s3 which still works

    • +2

      wait…

      • when do we roughly think this is?

    • Please explain to me how did that bootloop thing happen? As i am a LG G4 user as well and it's close to 1 year since i bought it from Kogan. Was your one stopped working within the 1 year warranty period?

      • i think different people had different ways of it happening. mine was when i was transferring some files from my computer to the phone via usb connection and halfway the phone crashed and rebooted and couldnt recover from it.
I purchase mine August 2015 so i missed out on the warranty but see what Kogan has to say cos like i said i just sent it back to them. im hoping for credit.

        • Um ok, but when you talked to them about the issue, did they ask you to send the phone back to them or you simply just "give" the phone back and hoping for credit??

        • @chengjianer:
they told me to send it back. i provide the serial number and IMEI and they said, send it back and gave me instructions on how to send it back

    • Just replaced mine with a grey market htc 10. Very happy so far

    • Hey can you clarify a bit more on this issue? I'm using a G Flex 2, which randomly shut down itself on Saturday while I was on the train listening to music. Unable to get it back on again anymore.

I did bought it on August 2015 too from Kogan too I think. But would like to recover some data which seems impossible..

I don't think this beats the recent Sony Xperia XA Ultra $299 deal.

You notice how the specification of the Samsung Galaxy S5 says it comes with Android KitKat out of the box. Although it's supposedly upgradable to Android Marshmallow. But that's quite old architecture, it was released back in 2014. This should be a $200-250 phone now, not $367, in my opinion is still over priced.

    • +1

      still over priced

      Like all Samsung products.

  • Won't Office Works beat this by %5

  • +3

It's a good phone. Typing on it right now… But it's hard to recommend it when it has a nil chance of getting Nougat, other than flashing custom rom. Power users will probably be disappointed.

Though it's worth noting this is the last Galaxy flagship to feature both removable battery and SD card expansion. The S7 had a sealed battery and so will the upcoming S8.

  • +3

    I am still using a SG S2…lol

    • Lol

    • I think S2 was the best so far. I stopped using Samsung after S3.

      • So what do you use now? I still want a removable battery, because it makes sense.

        • I moved to LG with G2 & G3 but after boot loop issues with both, I'm onto Sony now. I initially thought removable battery was a necessity but surviving with non removable battery fine now.

        • +1

          @TechAddict:
Yeah i don't have so much of issue with non-removable batteries now, since portable battery packs are available and cheap

    • i would be too if it booted past the samsung logo… the s2 has been my favourite phone. then i paid 380 dollars for the s4 from harvey norman a few years back. only people with more dollars than sense upgrade their phone's yearly… (status symbol much?)

  • Whats better this or the oppo f1s?

For a light user no games just facebook ans calls.

    • Moto G4 Plus is better.

  • crazy price for this phone

    • +8

Yes it's crazily over priced for a phone that's been out for 3 years and a couple of generations old.

      • +1

good to buy one now and keep it in a dark corner for next 20 years when it becomes very valuable to museums like the first apple mac

        • But this isn't the first anything.

        • @WatchNerd: its the 1st S5, isn't it?

  • +2

Guys don't fall for this bullcrap.

    buy a Xiaomi instead.

    • the motorola g4 plus is worth considering at that price….. has android 7, all australian 4g bands etc.

the s5 has band 28 so gets good 4G if on optus on telstra, most xioami s don't have band 28, also the s5 is weather proof / water prof the ciao is aren't, and i guess there's local warranty.

xioami will have some new phones in june that they will also sell in europe and usa currently china and india are they main markets and they design phones for those markets, the new models should have more bands and less internationalisation issues.

      • +1

of course it is dependent on user's needs. true about Band 28, though there hasn't been any rumours of them expanding into Europe or USA, in fact interview with their CEO the other day said they're being really careful with international expansion. Look how much up shit creek LeEco got, by going too hard too fast. Band 28 only happened for Redmi Note 3 cos it was sold in Taiwan, otherwise wouldn't have got it.

Band 28 may or may not be an issue for buyer, best to check OzTowers website for what's around but i haven't had any issues with lack of it on my Mi Max. you do get a bucketload more processing power on the Xiaomi's and battery life through the roof - but i agree, depends on the weigh up for the user there - whether they want better camera with local warranty, or take a gamble.

I still reckon for a Snapdragon 801 phone, the Sammy is massively overpriced for a three year old phone.

Totally agree with you. I have stop buying premium brands after S3, the reason being is customer service. They will sell a $700 phone and never care about you right after you bought it. Never will they upgrade to the latest android OS. Hence i moved to cheaper non premium phone 1/3 of the price and neverbe happier. I'll go with a decent Chinese phone instead.

      • Either they won't upgrade or take a year to do so. Like you said, rather get a cheap decent Chinese brand phone instead that will end up with the same update situation but at least got better value for money.

    • +2

I bought my son a Redmi 4 pro and my mum a Note 4 and both are excellent phones. I was looking forward to the S8, but for 15% of the Samsung s7 cost, it makes you think about the value of the Samsung

      • That's exactly it. People harp on about warranty too and sure, might get stuffed around on it but with the level of quality control from Xiaomi I'm confident it won't come to that. And even if did get the odd dud that retailers wouldn't honour properly under warranty, you could still buy another four of the same phone - for the same price as a Galaxy S series.

      • Who did you buy the Redmi 4 Pro from? TIA.

        • +1

Banggood. They do not call it a pro, but it is a 3Gb/64Gb model, which is known as the Pro
