Synology DS916+ 8GB RAM 0TB NAS - $758.40 Delivered @ ShoppingExpress eBay

CYBER

Original 20% off Selected Tech Stores at eBay Deal Post

Was after one of these and thought I'd check the CYBER 20%-off vendors. Sure enough this one was just a bit cheaper and free delivery than the cheapest on StaticIce (MegaBuy, $778.89 + delivery)

This is a stand-out product with a heap of features for those wanting a bit more than just a regular NAS.

very funny that it is $775 on their website: http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/synology-ds916-disksta…

it's a got 80 cashback too! maybe cheaper to buy via their website? unless it applies to this as well.

      • How to get cash back at $80? Cashrewards? 1.30% single transaction.

    • ShoppingExpress has always been transparent that they charge more on eBay than their own site due to eBay fees.

Or just get a trusty HP micro server and put xpenology on it.

Identical outcome. My N54L is a little workhorse and has never let me down.

    • Too bad the N54L never go on sale anymore.

      • They haven't been on sale for a while but according to a quick google search you could grab one for $256 plus $27 delivery (Aus. wide).

Its always an option if you don't fancy shelling out $760.

At the end of the day all depends on what you need.

    • Identical?? Get real. You're relying on a hacked version of Synology software… something you're supposedly going to be using for your important data. There's a good reason why they don't recommend you rely on it on their own site.

      • Well of course they don't recommend it, would be a ridiculous business move for Synology to say if they did. However that doesn't mean it isn't a very viable option.

I will acknowledge that the use of the word "identical" possibly shouldn't be used but you are painting a potential world ending scenario if you use Xpenology. Are you saying that if you use Synology's own OS that your important data is 100% safe? That can hardly be guaranteed now can it.

There are a huge number of users on OzB, Whirlpool and a myriad of other locations all using Xpenology on a large number of platforms. They obviously don't see the same potential Chickin' Lickin' scenario that you do with using Xpenology.

What we are providing here are options for people to choose…..To each their own at the end of the day.

  • What is the Surveillance Station like?
