  • guess it's better than nothing but before and I think still is. Where you sign up online with optus you get think it was 2 or 3 months free access.

    • Online through Optus gives 2 months free. Just checked their site. So worth $98. The above deal is pretty much comparable. If you can pick up, though, you get your phone right away.

      From the optus site:
"~ 2 months free access fee: Offer available to credit approved new and recontracting customers who connect online to any 24 month consumer plan with handset or any 12 month BYO handset consumer plan. The 2 months free access fee will appear as a credit on your third bill. Credit will be equal to two months of the monthly access fee of the plan you initially connected on. In order for you to receive this credit you must pay for your first 2 bills in full on your due date. Offer ends 31 August 2010, unless withdrawn or extended earlier."

  • This is a good deal. It pretty much matches the optus online deal of "2 months free Access" but $9 short if you go the $40 cash back or coles gift card, but $1 better if you go store credit.

Not 100% sure but if you include postage costs from online to your door this deal comes out ahead!

Postage is free, online from Optus.

      • 9.95 from monday onwards fellas
i just ordered my iphone4 and found out that way

        • I just ordered my SGS from Optus online last week. Postage is free.

What's with the double post, you holding it wrong?

  • like salem said. Do it online and you have to wait for your phone to ship to you and also we could help you setup your phone or even install a GPS software for you.

    • what gps software?

      • google maps

    • GPS software??

  • Any data included in the $49 a month cap?

    • 1GB

  • its using google maps but also gives you the turn by turn voice navigation. Unlike TomTom, because its using google maps so the maps will always be up to date.

    • I thought turn by turn navigation wasn't available in Australia unless you use the hacked version?

      • I didnt hacked mine.

        • +3

Although, to be honest, if a buyer doesn't know how to install google navigate from the android app store they probably shouldn't be buying a Galaxy S in the first place…

        • -1

hes talking about the FREE google maps brut mod. hardly a bargain to include FREE software.

          • @cookmsuh: So, does this mean you are using the google maps brut mod? This isn't even on the market and doesn't work very well compared to the actual version that is unavailable.

            • @samfisher5986: Ive been testing it for the past months. So far i dont have any problems with it.

            • @samfisher5986: I agree. It doesn't work that well.

If you test it properly, you will realise the maps are not properly set up to recognise no right turns, etc.

          • @cookmsuh: Its not a bargain but my point was if you order online you will have find that software and do it yourself.

Not that great of a deal. Telstra's $49 cap with the HTC Desire gives a $100 giftcard. Much better service and a much better phone.

    • -2

Telstra: •$400 of standard voice/video calls, text/MMS to any Australian network
      •500MB of data

Optus: •$450 of standard voice/video calls, text/MMS to any Australian network
      •1GB of data

      Do your maths.

      • -1

If you "do your maths", you will find that Optus give $450 worth of value precisely because they actually charge 90c per minute. Whereas Telstra's $400 value is charged at 40c per 30 seconds.

So, if you "do your maths" properly, the difference is only the flagfall of 37c charged by Telstra as opposed to 35c by Optus. But then again, because you get charged by 30 seconds by Telstra, you will find that on most occassions, Telstra works out to be cheaper.

The real difference comes to the extra 500mb of data allowance by Optus vs. superior network coverage of Telstra.

But if you are hungry for data, Telstra have much better value offerings:
        $49 ($400 call allowance) + 1GB data = $58.50
        $49 ($400 call allowance) + 3GB data = $63.50
        $49 ($400 call allowance) + 6GB data = $78.50

        Source: http://apcmag.com/iphone-4-telstra-bumping-plans-to-6gb-if-y…

My point to you, rep of TeleChoice, is:
Don't mislead customer. Be an ethical salesperson.
In the end, you'll end up with more customers this way.

        • You beat me to it vwh! I think it is pretty unethical how Optus rep's continue to mislead customers. Unless you're Telstra with the superior coverage and speed, you are only offering a good deal if it is cheaper. This is one example where it isn't.

In fact, if you have an ABN, the ball game changes completely and you recieve 1.2gb of data. Why lies will they tell to counter that deal?

      • +2

        Yes I will.

        Telstra - $400 in calls charged at 40c/30sec = 500minutes.

        Optus - $450 in calls charged at 90c/min = 500minutes.

This is assuming that every call you make is 1 minute. However, because Telstra charges in 30second blocks even if you make one call less than a minute, Telstra is cheaper.

Also, 1GB of data includes uploads and downloads.

Even through all that, even if the plans are equal, the HTC Desire is a better phone, and Telstra is faster and has more coverage. The optus deal would only be a "bargain" if it was significantly cheaper, which it isn't.

Hey guys. I’m here trying to promo my offer for my store with Optus. If you like Telstra and you think it’s better for you that is fine with me. This offer is for people who consider Galaxy S as their next handset and not for the question of who’s a better provider. If you like to discuss that please do it somewhere else.

          • @Yeschoices: D'oh, this is not an advertising site. If you are here to promote your business, then please do it somewhere else.

FYI, I am not with Telstra nor I am with Optus. And I don't have any connection with any carriers. I am just being objective by pointing out the differences between the two carriers. Don't be such an ass.
If you can't take constructive criticism, then buzz off. You shouldn't be doing any business.

I wasn't negging you before, but now I have because you act like you deserve one (plus, your bargain is not that much of a bargain as well).

Let me repeat one more time to make this clear:

OzBargain is a site to post a bargain, not a place to promote your store.

            • @vwh: I take constructive criticism everyday. Face to face or even in the virtual world.

Everyone use their mobile differently,if one plan works for you that doesnt mean it will work for the others. Like how you break down the call rates, what if that person send about 20 international SMS per month and go on to facebook upload photo 24/7. If thats the case then Telstra is not for them. Telstra might be cheaper in a way but wherether is right for other people is a different things.

Im not here to swing other people to sign up with optus. Im here to let people know if you have make up your mind about signing up a Galaxy S with Optus, then heres another bargain you can consider.

Let me repeat one more time to make this clear:

Im here to promote this bargain from my store, not promoting my store.

              • @Yeschoices: Now you are getting smarter.

Precisely my point, Telstra has it's pluses and minuses. So does Optus. And every other carrier for that matter. It all depends on how you use your mobile.

But your original post above are saying differently.
You clearly implies that because Telstra has only $400 whereas Optus has $450 call value, you have to fail at math to choose Telstra over Optus. That's misleading (not to mention a bit offensive).

                Then you are saying:
"This offer is for people who consider Galaxy S as their next handset and not for the question of who’s a better provider. If you like to discuss that please do it somewhere else."

That is really poor comments. Anyone in their right mind would consider the choice of provider when buying a mobile phone. The reason might be different, but the consideration would still be there.

And then, you finally said it right:
"Im here to let people know if you have make up your mind about signing up a Galaxy S with Optus, then heres another bargain you can consider."

Sadly, this is why sales is one of the least trusted profession. This needs to change.

So have a big heart and admit that you made wrong comments. It will bring you more good than bad.

And in the future, try to understand your customer needs first, then sell your product that fulfill that needs. That's the golden rule of selling. And it works like a charm. I know because I was a sales manager.

                PS:
I will still maintain my negative because this is hardly a bargain. Here's the maths:

Optus give 2 months free access (if you order online): $49 x 2 = $98
If you order from Monday, as per one of the post above: minus $9.95 delivery fee. But I just tried now (Friday night), and the delivery fee is still $0.
So, ordering online with Optus, you will be $98 better off (or $88.05 Monday onwards).

Whereas with this fella, you will get 1 month free access + $40 cash back = $89.
(let's not count the $50 store credit, as we all know you make more than 20% profit for each item you sell on your store, effectifely, a customer will be worse off if s/he choose this option).

The only "bargain" here, is that if you can go to their store, then you can have your mobile on the day. But, you would be worse off $9 (or better of 95cents if Optus indeed charge delivery fee from Monday).

So I'd say, go to any Optus store who has this phone in stock and get them to match their offerings online. Most likely they will do that anyway. You'd save yourself $9.

                Nuff said.

          • @Yeschoices: If you don't want to have any criticism directed at the inferior service you are trying to flog to us then YOU go elsewhere. This is not a free ad board. Speak to Optus about the crap network they have if you don't want people to compare quality of service between the carriers.

  • -2

If you 'do the math', you will see that the Galaxy S is a better phone ;).

    • +4

Yeah the SGS owns the Desire on games and screen quality and multimedia connectivity. The Desire is good if you want a slightly smaller phone and a camera flash. It's horses for courses, they are both truly great phones.

      • +1

screen quality? in what world is SAMOLED better than AMOLED? because of the word super? put them side by side and the desire is much better. The trick to making SAMOLED look better is turning the brightness up, but if you want to stare at a screen for 2hrs before the battery goes flat, be my guest.

        • Desire screen is pretty crap compared to a nexus one, let alone a sgs. Desire has a brownish colour cast, which makes it less bright than n1. I have both phones here, so I'm not just talking out me arse.

  • +2

I bought a Galaxy S at Virgin shop on a $29 plan for 24 months (includes $190 calls and 100MB data) + 2 months free credit ($58). So if you are a low user, you could try this alternative!

..and don't forget their 4000 Virgin FF points, it is worth a couple of movie tickets!

    • +1

unfortunately virgin have shit service. :(

    • Just to let other people know that we already match that deal, We also given bonus case with screen protector and car charger as well.

Sad to hear that markis is not happy with virgin service.

  • galaxy S is good. AMOLED screen, 5mp cam with flash. 720p HD vid recording. 1ghz processor. scratch resistant screen. top phone. play with them all day at work.

    • No camera flash unfortunately.

  • Doesn't look like an ozbargain bargain to me either might suit tele choices but not me
