Nikon D750 DSLR Body (International Model) + 16GB SD Card $1802.39 @ Dick Smith by Kogan

CYBER

A few days ago, I was shopping for a Nikon D750. The cheapest at that time was Ted's Cameras for $2599.95 (after discount $2079.96) which I thought was an acceptable price and can claim TRS. Literally the next morning, I realised that Dick Smith (Kogan) had relisted their DSLR cameras from this deal on the Nikon D500. I started wondering if they were being fulfilled by Kogan AU instead of Kogan HK. The difference is that one would include the GST component and the other won't. So I started this thread to check and I concluded that it was too good to include the GST component.

However, Dick Smith had finally gotten back to me and confirmed that it does indeed include the GST component. This means it is $1802.39 after the 20% eBay discount AND you can claim TRS on it (which is another $163.85 or $204.82 depending on the amount the invoice shows.

Now I'm crying so hard on the inside because I had picked up the camera from Ted's Cameras this morning and they do not offer refunds on change of mind.

Also be mindful that this is an international model which means if there's any issue, you will most likely have to go through Dick Smith (Kogan) for warranty repairs or replacement (which involves sending it back to them).

This camera is pretty awesome for its price. It uses FX lenses, allows video recording at 1080p @ 60FPS, has many AF points, accepts SD cards (which is more common and cheaper than CF cards, built in WiFi (for transferring photos to phones and computers). Definitely a must for prosumers.

Also note that this is just for the camera body. You will need a FX lens.

Nikon D750 Full Frame DSLR specs:

  • 24.3 megapixel FX CMOS sensor
  • 51 AF points, 15 cross type
  • SD card slots
  • Tiltable 3.2" RGB monitor
  • Built in flash
  • Built in WiFi
  • Full-HD video with 1080p at 24/25/30/50/60p
  • Bonus 16GB SD card

Here's also all the other Nikon cameras they are offering which I assume would similarly have a GST component.

    My question,
Is the item actually in Australia as suggested by the auction information or more importantly offshore.

There has been threads in the past suggesting, if I remember correctly, cell phone purchases attracting processing fees, duty and gst when they arrive in Australia.

It was suggested the auction was ambiguous on this point and not transparent and as it was over $1000, you don't get your stuff released from customs until you cough up the add on fees.

I messaged Dick Smith in the D500 auction mentioned above a couple of nights ago but have still had no answer.

I won't be buying from them due to this and suggest anyone else be sure of where they are buying from if they don't want to incur customs add on fees.

Spotted in a DS/Kogan thread in the forum section:

  • Love the d750

  • Still no answer to my eBay email.

ronnknee, I think you've had a lucky escape.

I suspect that the gst component that was confirmed will be the gst bill you'd get when it hit customs as well as an add on customs process fee and duty.

  • IMO paying extra to get it through TED's is worth it for the extra piece of mind for ACL warranty.
