PAL Business Class RT: Melb - Hong Kong $1150, Singapore $1106, Bangkok $1150, Tokyo $1126 Syd - BKK $1138, HK $1142 (June-Nov)

Yet another Philippine Airlines Deal but this time business class. The next best price for business class flights are around $2200 or more on some routes.

Find the lowest dates on Google Flights (click date & use calendar function), then plug them into Skyscanner or whatever site to book.

There are probably other routes in Asia but will have to search around (Jakarta, Macau, probably on sale as well).

PAL is trying to improve its reputation and the Melbourne/Sydney to Manila route is part of their upgraded Airbus A330 business class. AUSBT Review. Youtube Video (Mute Sound)

  • All flights go through Manila so roughly 8.5 hours of flying in business class
  • Seats are lie-flat.
  • You have access to the airline lounge in Manila Airport for the layover to your final destination.
  • You have access to the Kris Lounge in Melbourne or SAS Lounge in Sydney. You should also have access to lounges at your final destination when flying back.

Some of the flights have short layovers and some have 20 hour layovers (good to see the city I guess). Hat tip to AFF.

Dep 06 sept ret 19 sep Melb to Ho Chi Minh = $1200.35 AUD. pretty good!

    • Cheers have added that in. Skyscanner has it for $1119 via Aunt Betty (STA's other site).

      • +1

        I believe Aunt Betty's FLT's other site.

  • Remember to get Flight Centre to price beat, $1 less per passenger + no cc fees on payment.

    • Have you done this personally, my experience has been they generally don't

      • I have always price beaten my flights with them, any flights originating from Australia..

        I've done that 3x.

        • +2

i have had success and failure for that… really depends on the person you speak to at FC

        • @heathwithnoteeth: "computer says no?" Littlle Britain style.

      • I've never been turned down, done it a few times. I only bother if the best price is offered through a lesser known agency and is substantially lower than a known agency. You still have to pay card fees if the competitor in question charges card fees.

    • Not a bad idea but this also means that you are liable to pay two sets of fees if you have to make changes. Fees to Flight Centre AND the standard change fees that the airline charge.

  • So what are they like to fly with?

    • Revamped business class, new A330s. AUS BT.

      • Thanks though I meant more generally how are they to fly with?

  • Seats are lie-flat.

Depends on the aircraft you get.
Their older A340s still fly to SYD (MEL is luckier) which have an angled-flat seat. Their A320/A321s have an older-style recliner, which you might get even on 5-hour flights Japan-Manila.

    • Google Flights is saying lie-flat & A330 for all of the flights to/from Manilla so far however I'm not sure how accurate that is.

  • That's a very good price for Business Class.

I would also argue that the fact that there's a transit/stopover makes this a little more valuable than a direct flight. Personally I prefer a longer flight when travelling Business Class because it means you get to:

    • Use the lounge on more occasions (i.e. during your transit in addition to prior to your departure flight)
    • Enjoy the Business Class seat, entertainment etc. for a longer period of time

Of course if you're in a hurry then this is not a great deal, unless you badly want Business Class. Similarly, if you simply want to get from A to B, then this deal is still "expensive", because you can probably do this return for less than $1000.

    • When booking I'm wishing for the most direct or quickest route. In the air I'm wishing for a stopover to stretch my legs for a few hours!

  • There's a saying when it comes to PAL airlines… Plane Always Late

    • "It's just the same warning light as last time, should be fine. Shall we leave on time or get it checked out?"

  • That Manila airport is a sight to visit think chaos, last time I was there over the PA - gate 9 go to gate 3 and gate 7 go to gate 4, a thousand people converging on one another with hand luggage in tow.

Very good price as mentioned above, it's a shame PAL is not part of any global alliance though, otherwise this would be a good status run opportunity (4 sectors of flights in J)

Great deal!! Probably cheaper than the fees on a QFF redemption!

  • Wait till mid year for new J seats but looking at the reviews of past travellers remarks on ABT probably not.

Oh.. FUK. That's pretty FUKing good.

      • I don't understand what you mean, pretty Fukuokaing good? What does fukuokaing mean?!

  • This should probably be updated to mention that the offer finishes on 24 Mar (based on reading of fare rules on ITA Matrix).

  • Any that just go directly to Manila? Or is there a way to book to another destination and skip the connecting flight?

    • Funnily enough Manila isn't included. If you say book to Ho Chi Minh and just not board the Manila to Ho Chi Minh leg that may affect the rest of your booking. Also you can't book one-way.

You could just get a cheap return flight from Ho Chi Minh to Manila, $145 (probably less with a sale). So fly to Ho Chi Minh, then fly back to Manila. 2.5 hour flight.

Thanks OP, booked a trip to Japan.

    • Same here, thanks OP! Skyscanner and IWTF will get you great rates at linked sites, and some of those give extra $ off through coupons too.

  • Brisbane to Bangkok sees an overnight in Manilla :(
