  • Thanks OP just bought one in Macquarie. There was 1 left.

    • No worries.
      Welcome to the XArk side.
      😄

      • Phone was locked but got it unlocked free ^_^

  • I did see Big W QV in Melbourne CBD if you were wanting to try a price match.

    They had it for 299.

  • Thanks OP. I was thinking of buying https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298007 this phone. Is the sony one better than this phone?

    • No worries.
Personally I'm not a big fan of Xiaomi devices.
I mean, if they are selling it for that cheap with those specs whats the catch?
And with BIOS level malware lurking on the inter-webs.(By dodgy wholesalers) I would rather Sony.
Plus this is covered by Australian Warranty. Compared to three months? Xiaomi.

  • Chirnside Park had a fair few in stock as of like half an hour ago.

  • Bought one and unlocked immediately. Thanks OP!

    • No worries!

Must be one of the unlucky ones bought two of these today and vodafone site saying $50 to unlock imei and $25 after 6 months on both imei's..

    • Are you sure its locked?
      Please check again.

      • Yeh definitely locked, SIM network unlock PIN etc… cc $50 payment on Vodafone site..

        • Hmm
Must be one of the rare devices which are locked.
1- Try go in store tommorow and pottentialy get it unlocked for free?
2- Or call them say your going overseas…
3- If everything fails, try contact xperia support in australia and complain that you bought it unlocked and vodafone is Insistent it is unlocked
4- Pm me your details and i will try take care of it for you?

        • @0p: I'll call them tomorrow and update you, voda support wohooo, lol..

        • Please do…
If you need Anything shoot me a PM

@0p: Got a resolution today, vodafone was no help at all, went to target they have apparently still got old stock REV1 which is the original prepaid device, and the new stock is REV2 which is a postpaid device repackaged as a prepaid device unlocked stock. Its written on the box, the target entertainment guy knew all about it,and swapped both handsets for REV2 also got me to get the unlock codes instore from vodafone site. He was great AAA+++ REV versions on exterior of phone box visible under clear wrapping. Happy hunting guys :-)

        • Thanks robzta.

        • @robzta:

I just checked my box and it reads REV2

Great work, on getting your devices swapped & unlocked

        • @rusty2k: don't want anyone else falling into the same messy trap hey :-) what a nightmare lol… REV2 all the way..

        • @robzta:

Just wandering why you had to get them unlocked after swapping them to REV2 ( maybe they also were locked, but could get unlock code for free ?)

        • +1

@ozhunter68: REV1 gave a message to pay $50 to get code on voda website, REV2 unlocked out of the box and voda provided a free code on voda website. For REV2 went on website first just to check that voda didn't want $50 :-)

        • @robzta:
Thanks for info. Just to make it 100% clear, the REV2 is actually still locked to Vodafone out of the box, but you still need to unlock if using other carrier's sim, but you can get a FREE UNLOCK CODE from Vodafone's website.
          Is that correct???

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Hey.. a better way to confirm would be if you are in store before purchase punch in the IMEI number in to voda website: https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/ if you get a free unlock code purchase it, if it says $50 do not purchase it :)

With my ones straight out of the box put in a Telstra sim no need for unlock, even though they had a free unlock code I did not need to put the code in to the phone, handsets where completely unlocked, hope this helps :)

        • @robzta:
Thanks, 100% clear now. Mine was locked, but got free unlock two months later on website doing same as first time ( which said $50 to unlock ). Trying my luck now for my spare ( still locked ) Y6 but site not working at all for that one now.

        • @robzta: that's really strange… just checked the one i bought 2 days ago and it's REV1… and i just got it unlocked via vodafone website with no issues…. guess i must have been lucky

  • All good, just bought one on morning. It's locked, but get unlock code from Vodafone website immediately free of charge.
Plus it's 3G 850MHz compatible and so works with my Aldi sim (Telstra network) smoothly.
Could be the only budget octa-core phone on market compatible to Telstra network
Target Penrith 4 left after I bought one.

    • Yes, works on all networks with all current 3G and importantly 4G bands too. Another great budget phone that does this is the Huawei Y6 Elite ( also Vodafone Prepaid and mostly always locked ), that just misses the 4G B7 2600Mhz used by Telstra and Optus in some places, but does not seem to be missed like our B28 which it does have ( but the old favourite Huawei Y550 did not have ). Both good phones for the special prices offered now and past.

Update: really a big problem of the battery as someone said above. Drain 5% battery off every hour standby only without any use!!!
Wifi turned on only. Mobile network off, Bluetooth off, everything else off

  • Weird on e this?? My local store says they are locked and fee required to unlock? Seems different info at different places…ah well?

  • just got one - before turning it on inserted a Woolworths Sim (Telstra network) and it worked

    Thanks Op

    • No Worries welcome to the XArk side
      😂👌

  • I bought one and then my partner insisted on buying Redmi Note 4.

If anyone is finding it hard to find stock, happy to give mine to you at Wynyard station incl. receipt. Otherwise I will return it.

  • Grabbed one at Target Cockburn Gateway WA, as per 4.30pm, there are 2 more left.

  • Does target have any of the other colours or just black?

    • +1

Colours White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold, Rose Gold

      I am not sure…
I have just checked, vodafone only seems to stock graphite black. But im not that sure…
Personaly i have the greyish version.(Graphite black?)

  • Ooops…saw this yesterday morning, grabbed one for my son. Jumped on here now to thank the Op and spotted its got to be Rev2. Checked box….damn rev1. Havn't actually tested with his Boost sim, will update later.

  • Update …on my Rev1 version I just got the unlock code free of charge from Vodafone website! :) very happy thankyou Op.

    • No worries.
      Glad i could help.

    • +2

      Nice score… :-) especially with REV1..

  • How does this compare to XA Ultra besides the size?

    • +1

Ultra is full hd/ ultra has bigger battery
      Here's a comparison link…

      • From some comparison reviews, Ultra also has better speaker and hence better/louder sound. Also seems to perform faster too.

    • The Ultra also has the king of all front-facing cameras - 16MP with optical image stabilization. I think the rear camera may also be better than on the XA, just compare the specs.

  • I managed to get a REV.1 from Target and was network locked but disabled for free via Vodafone website.
However I am having issues with GPS signal. It seems very poor compared to my other phone/devices.
I googled a remedy and the sony forums say boot into safe mode to eliminate 3rd party app related cause (but I cant seem to enable safe mode)
Anyone else have this issue? or solution?

    • anyone?

      • Could be a bad GPS module, could be an inherent rev 1 thing, could be the app you're using. Check 'supl' is being used to help with GPS location, it'll be in the network settings and you might have to add it. Also maybe download an app that will get you some location data and cache it to your phone, that can help location problems too.

  • On the Woolworths Network my Xperia XA cannot sustain a 4g network phone connection - it keeps switching between 3g & 4g every few seconds… need to manually change the Network Settings to WCDMA only

tested on another phone and its fine on LTE

    has anyone experienced this?

    • just tested with a genuine Telstra SIM and it cannot connect to 4g. It keeps jumping between the two every few seconds (3g > 4g > 3g > 4g) attempting to stay on 4g but it cannot.

  • For those unable to get the phone at Target, you may want to try BigW its on special this week at the same price - Harvey Norman also have the device and may be able to price match

    • Were only willing to go a few bucks below $199, don't bother unless one of the salesmen there understands how the free market works.

BigW have it on sale starting tomorrow the 30/03/17 at $169 dollars. No, they won't sell it for that price today and they won't hold one for anybody until tomorrow unless you're willing to pay the price that's on them today.

      Always happy to help.
      😊
      0p

  • Thank you for posting this 0p. I've been looking for a handset for a while and this one is perfect for me. Picked it up last night and it's perfect for my usage.

    • No worries.
      Welcome to the XArk side.
      😊

  • Now in bigw catalogue for same price

    • Thanks added…

  • got a rev1 from bigw burleigh heads today and got free unlock code from the website instore before purchasing. thanks!

    • No worries…
      Welcome to the XArk side👌😉

  • I was in trouble finding stock in VIC, website say in stock but no stock when calling the store. Sigh…

    • Check Big W as well
The offer is both in Big W and Target…

    • Casey Central Target had some Rev 2. late last week if thats close to you.

      • Thanks 0p & BiotBargin,

I bought one from Boxhill BigW but unsure if it is Rev1 or 2.

        Fingers crossed on unlocking.

        • Just a follow up, mine is a Rev.1 phone. Unlock code is available from Vodafone website for free without hassle.

          Thanks everyone.

  • Managed to pick up one from Big W Eastgardens (NSW) on Friday night. There were 7 left.

What case does everyone use for this phone? Can't find any good brand such as otterbox, spigen or incipio.

    • +1

      Check ebay…
There is some really good generic ones on there…
Cases of Xperia XA/X/XA Ultra are universal i think…

      • Having a hard time choosing from the cases on ebay. Prefer a case that maintains a somewhat tactile feel when clicking on the buttons. Some cases dampens the 'click'.

        • How about getting one with holes in the place of the buttons?
That way there is no interference…

        • @0p: I'm thinking the hole for the power button would be huge. Ended up with the Taggshield clear case.

  • Any trouble with the 0 side bezel handling or placing/dropping it.
And opinions for 2 x XA vs 15 moto g4 32gb at about the same money

    • Im sorry could you please rephrase that…
Im not that good at engrish…

    • Probably just the battery life and size (battery) is a concern, plus the super minimal bezel (drop damage etc), yes I would consider a miniscule bezel to be of potential issue. I'd still buy two phones over one at this price. You can force adoptable storage with the guide I posted in this thread previously.

  • anyone know how to root this unit?? I had try Kingo ROOT didn't work.

    • Here

      Or

      DuckDuckGo it, Here

  • So will it work with kogan mobile? Or not?

    • It will…

  • now $199

    • Please see in store in bigW
But thanks I have updated the page..

I can't seem to edit this?
Maybe have reached maximum editing allowance?

  • Is anyone else having to add APNs every time you port out to a different prepaid provider? Is there an automated way to automatically detect the provider? The phone has been unlocked through the Vodafone website for free. Perhaps there is another unlocking stage to be done?

    • That's strange…
It autodetect's and usualy you have to manualy select the best one. Atleast on my phone… Every time you add a new sim you go to APN settings and it should have auto detected the network…
Also i think if you only move main providers it gives you options… Ie, vodafone to telstra or optus to vodafone not within a network if that makes sense… Next time try using the internet without changing the APN to see if that works…
      0p

      • The internet won't work because the APN isn't there at all. The voice component works no problem.

As soon as a new SIM was inserted from another provider, the APN disappears until I add a new one after Googling the provider's APN.

        • What are the two providers?
One you have and one you change?

        • @0p: Optus first, then Woolworths. Both required manual APN set-up.

Phone is a Rev 1 with free unlock code from the Vodafone website.

        • I'm not sure…
I guess you only have to do it once a month so I shouldn't be a problem…

        • @amts: To sort out apn issue flash the phone to generic Australian firmware: http://xperiarom.com/sony-xperia-xa-f3115-android-6-0-stock-…
Note wont void warranty as this is stock firmware (do it at your own risk).
The Sony Z4 Tablet exclusive to Telstra had same issue flashed to generic UK firmware for 4g to resolve issue :-)

        • @robzta: OK. Thank you. Will give that a go.

  • +1

if anyone is still looking for this phone, I found one from target for 199.

    • Thanks.
