  • Does SCA price match?

    • Mine does if you can show the price in a catalogue etc. The Repco is in the same parking lot

On a wonder through one of their stores this week I compared a few products with Supercheap prices and Repco list prices were 20-30% more, I'm not suggesting this would be the case for everything but it was for what I compared. Made me wonder if it's part of the reason for their outdated website.

    • You reckon?

    • +5

They aren't known as "Ripping Every Poor C___ Off" for nothing!

i went into repco with a mate last time they had i think it was either 40% or 50% off chargers. after the discount it came close to what i paid for the same about 5 years ago… even the penrite oils were about 20-30% more than other retailers…

        Countdown to extinction!!!

    • Which means this sale is at least 9% off the SCA retail price

      • Not so unfortunately, the item that made me first think wow they are expensive were the Tred Recovery Tracks, Shelf price at Repco was $316 and I thought, wow that's more than Maxtrax, looked up the SCA website and they are normally $229 so they are actually 38% more expensive for those.

        • Which when discounted becomes $222
Not a great discount, but still cheaper than SCA's normal prices

        • @outlander: True, but SCA have 20% off of theirs so they are down to $183

        • @tryagain:
And lets not forget you can buy SCA gift cards at 5% off, and sometimes 10, bringing it further down to $165
Never seen Repco sell giftcards at reduced price

i find it difficult to prepare when the repco website doesnt have full product catalog

    • So that they don't have to publicise their list prices. If you could compare their pricing to SCA, who would win? :)

  • +1

The website may not be that good but they had the range of Penrite oils I wanted last time and I also managed to get some of that Rain Off (if that is what it was called) glass treatment for a good price.

I don't bother with Repco. Even if their prices end up cheaper than SCA, the lack of price transparency on their website turns me away. You are forced to go to a store physically.

    • +1

Agreed! The store range & price can vary from store to store for stuff like parts ..even with 30% off, they're probably only 5% cheaper than SCA

I tried to buy a battery from Repco last time during last 30% off, was told the cheapest they have is $232! FFS! SCA had them at $175 at all time.

    • Once I need some rocket gaskets/seals and the price Repco and SCA quoted were more than double than Autopro. Needless to say, went with Autopro.

      • I see what you did there.

    • +1

This is the #1 reason why I never buy at Repco, cbf if I have to go to a physical store for prices…

Is that true that a lot of mechanics in Sydney used Repco ordering parts for their customers' repair? I found most of the time the price is ridiculous and align to how much they charge back to customers.

    Another usual suspect is AutoOne.

Have you ever seen a SCA parts ute/van/truck? They don't do trade like Repco/Bursons/Autone/AutoPro/Pep's etc.

      • In general which one of those would be cheaper to get Japanese cars parts? I am referring to things like alternator, timing belts, water pumps, fuel pumps etc. Not the wiper or blinker fluid…

        • +1

          Rockauto

        • Mekong Auto Spares in Canley Vale if you can do the trek, cheapest Jap parts in town.

        • @UncleMurphy:

Bit far away but will keep that in mind cheers.

        • @quasims:

Wow didn't know such a website exist until now. Sometimes price is not the most important point but they do have more choice e.g. an alternator for a car can have multiple brands and models. The cost of delivery isn't bad too.

          @siuol:

Be careful in choosing the right part model for your car as international car variants at Rockauto could sometimes have subtle differences to Aussie models. SCA/Repco have essentially been an oil store for me since last few years, as getting it online from overseas doesn't make sense. Aussie retailers need to wake up to the online reality or just start their countdown to extinction.

  • must be economy slowing down or something, I just got an email SCA is doing another members night again next with bonus credit and 30% off penrite and toolpro,etc.. gonna pickup a pack of butane cans with the bonus credit and probably ask 'em again to stock penrite's top grade 100% PAO ester real synthetic oil which they never seem to stock.

Repco's 30% off is good for getting some cheap cans off threebond upper engine cleaner.

  • Repco catalogue sales tend to be good although their prices are often quite high for normal things but at least they carry stock or can get it quickly - that's why the trade love them and Bursons…

The trade discount isn't that great unless you're buying heaps of things every week and then you get delivery etc.

Bottom line - you need a pair of brake discs for something like a Mazda Tribute on a Sunday afternoon - Repco is a good bet.

30% off works well for general consumables like sealants etc which tend to be priced similarly everywhere.

  • If you someone at Repco for a set of points and a condenser for a 351 Cleveland they'll either know exactly which items you want, or they'll let you drive their computer to find it (in stock). At Supercheap they ask you what a 351 Cleveland is.

Edit: I also asked the local autobarn for the price on a B & M Megashifter, quoting the B & M part number. They thought Megashifter was industrial floor cleaner, des0ite having a B & M display case in the8r store.

  • Are car batteries included?

EDIT: Never mind, just saw that automotive batteries are excluded. :(
