From a similar post in January:

I've had the Pro version of this app from a while ago (on iOS) and I can say that they've really let me down.
The supposed "PRO" version of the app still has ads (even though I paid for the app at full price a while back) and requires a monthly sub of $20 to use many of its features.
Those looking for a running tracker are better off using other alternatives than this garbage.

    • I still use this as my go to gps app for running. I've been using it for years and it's never let me down. Although I didn't pay for it :)

      • Me too… it's good for "free" and I like it much better than say RunKeeper. Just sharing the news for those unknowing that they may be expecting more than they are getting (… for free)

  • Was $8.99 maybe?

      • Yikes those negs!
I just want to know , is it possible to use the app without the membership?

Usually apps going free are just switching to IAP for essential ongoing features.

Would be good to confirm if this is not the case

        • Yes you can use the app without membership, and it works quite well. Go for a walk and give it a go!

I don't understand the neg from you.

That's kind of like getting a free car and then complaining that you would have to pay for the sports package, sunroof, extra 5 year warranty….

      • -2

        Sorry for the reciprocal neg,
IAP on free apps are famously deceptive . Just trying to figure it out and don't understand the torrent of down votes

My thinking was (using the analogy above).
"Have to" is different from "having the option to".
Is it a free car where I have to buy fuel For 1000x the market rate?
Is it a free car without wheels and proprietary fittings that cost a bucket ?

I'm just looking to unravel the whole deal . I figured pasting the IAP list helps clarify the remaining pieces not in the deal.

        • +2

Yeah I understand, a lot of apps are taking on this IAP model and advertising their app as 'free'.

In this case, it's definitely still very usable. All the main needs are still there, and with no ads.
But if you want the extra features/gimmicks then you can pay for them, but they're just extra ways that Runtastic have to make money without affecting their core product.

PS I love it how we're chatting in a below threshold thread. More hapoening in here than outside :)

          @RewardBucks:

Can't argue with that. Thanks for the info

  • I'm using the free one on Android ;(

Ihd be surprised if some idiot has actually paid for this app!

  • +1

IAP is quite ridiculous nowadays, the popular fitness apps make you subscribe monthly/yearly instead of paying for the app 1 off.

  • +2

I think I've seen 3-4 deals from you DAILY, the last couple of weeks?
    Good work!

      Thanks :)

Good app, but note, "Pro" is not the top level, it constantly nags you to upgrade to a "Premium" subscription…

Mine recently even started nagging me to upgrade to Premium over the voice prompts that happen every kilometre, really annoying :(
