Any difference between v1 and v2?

    • Light of the controller comes up above the sensor bar. That's all I can see.

      Also works via USB now.

      • What do you mean works via USB?
( our old controllers work when plugged into PS4 USB port)

That was actually just charging it. I believe you'll probably be able to use the controller on the pc since the usb fully works.

@pikapika: Yeah, this. Also you get a very slight improvement in input lag since it runs off the wire. But it'll be negligible for most intents and purposes.

Good for fighting games or the likes of CoD I suppose.

        • @pikapika: thanks, so no biggy for just PS4 console use.

@PVA: Honestly there isn't a huge upgrade from the last one. I bought one from Base cause it was cheaper than the original controller but I'm still waiting on my Base package to arrive…So, for me I got it cause of price not on what it can "now" do since it's only going to stay with my ps4.

  • Is it just me, or do these feel slightly cheaper than the previous models. They don't even include the clear plastic film on the dpad to cut costs.

    • Honestly I don't feel either version are made out of very nice materials. They have the V1 in stock for the same price if you prefer.

    • PS4 controller is cheap rubbish compared to Xbox One. I prefer the PS4 console but the Xbox One has a great controller and it's also much more comfortable and doesn't cause cramps. The 360 controller was junk but it seems they stepped their game up a bit.

      • I agree as far as quality but not design … basically for me the PS4 controller is too small and I prefer the Xbox One controller size.

But then I do not like the placement of the Xbox One analogue sticks, something about it still feels wrong.

So as far as comfort I prefer the Nvidia Shield Controller: it has the layout of PS4 with the size of the XB1 controller - in fact it's much larger depth-wise - perfect for me with large hands … and the analogue triggers have some real weight which makes them much better for driving games than XB1.

But alas the Nvidia Shield has even worse build and material quality than anything mentioned so far and is not lasting well with even small amounts of use - which is why I use an Xbox One Elite controller despite not liking the layout.

We can argue all day about controllers of course ;)

My all time favourite controller is probably the Nintendo Gamecube controller. Likely partially nostalgic, but at the time, I also had a PS2 and the original PS controllers were just trash in terms of ergonomics, from the pre-DualShock to the DualShock 3 and everything between, they weren't molded for human hands. I haven't used the Xbox One Elite controller as I can't justify the price. But I imagine it's pretty great, considering the quality of the Xbox One controller - and I don't have an issue with the analogue sticks. The PS4 analogue sticks are weird, as they're not really concave and not convex, they're essentially a hybrid of both.

My biggest issue with the PS4 controller is the cramping. I don't know if anyone even used the thing during the prototype stage for a few hours straight, because it leaves you with nasty cramps. I've never had cramping before and I don't get it, I think it's the thumbstick position, which may explain why the Xbox and GCN controllers were never an issue. I also dislike the touch pad on the PS4 controller, it seems beyond useless in virtually every scenario where functionality for it is implemented. Like, in Doom, you can two finger pinch to zoom into the map, but it's really unpolished, compared to the rest of the game. Most games just use it as a button and totally dismiss the touch functionality, so it just ends up inflating the price of each controller.

Obviously there isn't going to be one controller that suits everyone, after all, everyone has different sized hands. But Sony is so behind on ergonomics, the N64 controller was much more in tune than the PS3 controller in terms of comfort and that was over 10 years and 2 generations in difference.

      • The Xbox controller design is dreadful though. I absolutely love the ps4 controller design (well, I guess the PS1 dual shock controller design since it's never changed).

I agree though, Sony skimp a little on quality. The analog sticks from the ps2 start to develop a sticky residue after 10 years, and the original ps4 ones start to wear out a little quick (at least the early model ones did, though I think they fixed that).

They're not bad quality, just not top of the range rolls royce quality. Design kicks arse though

        • My Ps4 analog sticks wore out so i replaced them with newer pads..feels a bit strange since they are thicker and not as flexible but it's way better than playing with broken analog sticks.

      • My sister said the X1 controller gives her hand cramp…I haven't used the controller long enough to make a full opinion but wgen I used it a few years ago it never felt as comfortable in my hands like the 360 controller did. The sharp edges on the x1 controller got to me as well. I loved the 360 controller over everything..Ps4 controller is okay but mine wore out and I kinda think it's not as durable.

    • My v2 definitely felt more solid than my original controller but the old one was pretty clapped out. As for the clear plastic film it's because the v1 controllers are gloss finish around the dpad while the v2 is matte finish…

The thumbsticks are also supposed to be more durable on the new controllers but time will tell.

      • Ah, that explains it. Good news on the thumbsticks though.

I think you made an error on the 50c cheaper with white. You aren't taking into account the extra effort required to clean a white controller because it looks dirty. This easily justifies the cost over the period of ownership.
If anything the black controller has an extra feature - it provides a built in dirt disguiser. this feature is unavailable in white.. hence the additional costs ;>

    • Some people like things looking clean!

Ur link for the Black Controller is not the V2 model.
