  • 3 adults in our household. No solar. We have gas stove/oven. In WA.

My last bill (Synergy) covered 61 days (16 Jan- 17 March) and was $329. That's for a period where I had a guest from overseas for about 1/2 of that time frame. It was also hot, so some A/C usage.

Also, our weather here has been cooler than normal since Feb. That meant very little A/C since Jan.

I'd love to rent a house with solar panels & solar H/W!

    150 - 180 per quarter.

    1 Adult

    Sydney.

Don't have an air con, only use fans in the summer and an electric blanket during the winter. Pretty OCD with electronics, I turn off every outlet in the place expect for the ones I'm using:

    • Usually the TV, Xbox, a lamp and router in the living room.
    • Computer and desk stuff in the bedroom.
    • Fridge in the kitchen.

Do all my laundry off peak.

I really hate wasting electricity, it's not about the money but something about wasting resources just rubs me the wrong way.

  • $420 a quarter
    Regional NSW
    All electric (no gas)
    2 adults + 1 toddler

  • 3 people, 2 adults working full time, 1 full time student
When solar credits were 0.26 per kwh, 3 months for about $140
Now solar credits are 0.07 per kwh, $369.00,just received it last week.
2 storey house, 2 reverse cycle air cons, LED lights, 2 fridge freezers and solar hot water, gas cooking.
We dont leave lights on and turn off everything at the wall.

  • last 3 bills about $50 each. 2 adults. both working 9-5.

  • I pay $250/quarter after discounts for gas and electricity. 2 people, 2 bedroom near CBD apartment, 1 of us works from home. I think this is not great as hot water is supplied by the building. No air con, don't use fans or heaters, no washer/dryer/dishwasher, use LED bulbs. Two desktops that get used a lot, a fridge, not much else. Use gas for cooking. Most of the cost, especially for gas, seems to be supply charges. Currently switch between Energy Au and AGL depending on current $ rebate offers as this counts for more for me than rates. If anybody can suggest something better, I'm all ears.

  • 7 adults + 1 toddler plus 2 dogs.

summer: $550 for power and $200 for gas. that includes air con on every time the tempt hits 35 degree+

winter: $250 for power and $200 for gas. we dont normally use heater. We are a bunch of Kiwis who used to 5-10 degree weather.

Almost nothing, but it required spending a fair bit to turn short-term pain into long-term gain.

We put in a 5.8kWH PVA 5 years ago, after the big feed-in tariffs disappeared, and it took around 3 years to get back in lower bills what we had to borrow.

We are now part of the Adelaide AGL Virtual Power Plant scheme (https://aglsolar.com.au/power-in-numbers/), and had our 7.7kWh battery installed in February, with a free update to 11.6kWh scheduled for this month.
We paid $4.7k for that, and they only sent the invoice today; presumably until after the system was bedded in.
That included the extra $800 to take us off-grid when there is an outage, and use the battery just for us.

It comes with a dashboard application so we can see when (and how much) energy is produced and used, so have planned our electricity use around that.

We have averaged $100 per month over the winter months, and that is because the system covers all of the power bill, and part of the gas bill (both are with AGL).
It will be much better in spring/summer/autumn as we generate more power and don't have the AC on heater mode in the morning.

It has worked well for us, but I would certainly be careful in setting up a spreadsheet before going down this road, as it may not suit all locations.

It had a side-benefit of SAPN (local poles and wires company) sending us a cheque for $100 as compensation for a long power outage.
The battery had kept up our lights and TV, so we had not even noticed it - the neighbours have promised to pile in when we have another :-)

My bill is exactly twice half it's cost.
