  • Hey rep, I was just looking at this printer last night and I swear it was around this price without even needing a coupon code.

  • How hard are these to calibrate once built? This price point is getting close to my impulse buy reflex.

    • Have a look at the installation videos on the product page. Not that hard really.

    • Dead easy but constant maintenance is always required

Currently cheaper at Zapals, showing AU$188.22/US$142. No coupon code needed.

Shipping is not free, final price is $209.25

Edit: 209.25 is USD, final price is going to be around $270 AUD.

      • Oops, you're right.

I'm getting too used to Chinese websites with free shipping.

  • Just a heads-up; I've read reports of people having issues with Acrylic frames on their Prusa i3 clones so just be mindful that you may need to reinforce it if you end up having issues.

    • I've got one and have not experienced this problem.

      • How long have you had yours? How's the print quality?

        • +2

I have one. Print quality is great, comparable to the ultimaker.

Upgrades are needed auch as auto bed level ($10ish for an inductor off ebay) and an enclosure if you want to print abs (id estimate a build for about $100). But PLA is fine when you first get it.

There are some issue like dodget wiring that you will need to fix (not immediately) but be aware, this can pose a fire risk if left unattended. Id defintely do the mosfet upgrade ($30) when looking to print abs. Google anet a8 mosfet.

My friend has just upgraded his to a bown extruder for about $100. His models that he used will go up on thingiverse soon. Hes getting faultless prints.

I love my anet a8 partly because it works so well but mostly because its so moddable and you learn so much. My friend and I joke we only bought 3d printers to print parts for our 3d printers… but we love it.

          Pull the trigger

          @Avatar:

I should add: you will have issues and many failed prints. Its part of the learning process.

        • @Avatar:
Thanks Avatar. Great info. Now I just need to find someone other than GearBest to sell me one around this price.
I promised myself I will never buy from GearBest again, and I keep my promises.
          Cheers

          @Janpgle:

Haha I got mine off gearbest. One of the acrylic parts came broken and they couldn't replace it. In the end I accepted $20 US credit, which I used for abs, and glued it back together. Its held.

Most people who have them seem to have bought them from gearbest (but US warehouse). Ive also seen them listed on aliexpress for comparable price and which more choice in terms of making sure you get the latest version. I dont know anyone who has bought feom there though.

          Good luck

        • @Avatar:
          Ditto.

  • Great price but quote: " The assembling process from start to finish was approximately 5 hours, and another 2 hours for programming." is this normal when purchasing 3D printers ? Or is this a reflection of the great price ? .

    • +3

Putting stuff together is half the fun.

    • +1

Wow. Took me maybe 2 hours to go from packing to printing.
Your mileage will vary greatly depending on your experience assembling kits of this type.

      • Thanks for the reply

  • I'm just curious, for those than have one (or know someone who does), what are people building/printing with these domestic models?

  • For those skeptical about GearBest delivery times I bought this same 3d printer

Friday 31/3 Bought printer $159.99 USD
Sunday 2/4 Posted out from GB
    Tuesday 4/4 Left HongKong
    Wednesday 5/4 Arrived Sydney
    Thursday 6/4 Delivered this morning @ 9:20am :D

    • Yeah, they're pretty good…
      Ordered: 16 11 2016
      Delivered: 24 11 2016

      • Thats nice and fast :D

    • Similar times for me.
I ordered a tronxy x1. But surprisingly, it came from Chullora, NSW.

    • Ordered 29/03/2017 two days before you
Shipped 06/04/2017 via AU Express Post

      YMMV…..

      • Maybe it had a holiday before coming to aus ;)

  • Bought one.

  • Does the kit come with any filaments?

    • No. Item description says "Without filament"

  • Rep, it says EU plug or US plug - is there an option for an AU plug?

    Thanks.

    • Don't worry about getting the AU option. It's just the lead.
Get the EU version. Throw the lead away. Get a spare lead from somewhere (buy from Bunnings, hack off an old appliance…).

      • +1

Or better still - replace the whole power supply. I have a spare ATX that I'm using from an old PC. Google "anet a8 power supply" for further info.

        • +1

@Jangle is right. I totally forgot that I upgraded my power supply.

  • I just ordered it, hope its better than my delta which I have had no end of problems with.

  • Just arrived, not to terrible with delivery times - deal expired anyway but that may be useful for anyone deciding in future.

  • Ordered on Monday (24/4 8:20pm), shipped Tuesday (25/4 4pm), received following Tuesday (2/5 9am). I would say that is very fast considering some items within Australia don't even get delivered in 8 day time frame from ordering.

Took 4 hours to assemble and already printed all the mods to improve print quality, though I must say out of the box assembled without playing with settings it produces very good results.

  • got mine too!
