"Gaming Router" Really? Such a marketing scam.

      "Gaming Router" Really?

      What are the odds ?

If ASUS adds the ROG (Republic of Gaming) label on it, they can sell it for $900.

      • There is a ROG one coming I believe. Though it looked similar I believe.

    • I think it has preset QoS settings.

      • And a WTFast membership. Which has nothing to do with the router at all. I would expect at least a year for that price.

Thanks for adding ftth and fttn compatibility on these.

  • i am a noob, need some help on deciding on which one to get. Cant make up my mind, been tracking some products for some time.

I am with TPG ADSL and it came along with a Huawei modem router, weak signal in my parent's room. No NBN connection this year, end of 2018 atleast.

Archer C59 AC1350 Wless Dualband router (FTTH)

If I get this, would there be any improvement and will it be possible to use this along with the Huawei modem router?

      First read up http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-turn-a-router-…

If you feel you need a NBN capable router and want to future proof your purchase in case you do get NBN upgrade, I would buy the better VDSL modem and replace the stock Huawei router, and then configure the Huawei as the access point or repeater.

(VDSL modems are compatible with both ADSL2+ and Fiber to the node technologies)

There is another excellent VDSL modem, called the Archer VR600 (TP Link). It runs a Broadcom BCM63168U chipset, same chipset found in a lot of higher end devices, with 1 gig of RAM and 128MB of flash. So it's a pretty solid unit for the asking price of $169. Check it out.

      • Do u know if it's possible to add static routing in these? Telstra relased a firmware update that stoped it and now csnt get getflix to work :/

      • thank you for that digital trend article, I do have a router from another ISP that is just sitting there after I changed states.

What scrimshaw says is good I can't vouche for the models he or you mentioned, but I've been using the Asus ac68u for years. The wifi range is great it sits in the middle of my house and is covering my full 860sqrM block of land and out onto the street, depending on the device being used I can even get wifi two houses up the street. It's fairly fast and pretty stable in my experience. Only real down side is the cost but that said this ones a hell of a lot cheaper than what I paid for mine and I still feel it was worth it.

  • anyone had any luck with the audio reciever/range extender things? I dont really want the range extension, just the airplay functionality. Have a few older amps around the house to bring into the 21st century

  • Anyone know of any wifi extenders that connect via Ethernet? So as in run cat6 from router one to extender to provide better signal? Is this possible?

    • +1

sounds like you have wireless for part the house. why not run another router via cat6 cable. two routers with 2 wireless networks. should get you enough wireless coverage to cover entire house.

      So it will be

      modem- Cat6- router1 (wireless network 1)
      modem- Cat6- router2 (wireless network 2)

pretty much any wireless router will be able to do this. Just make sure they are on different IP address ranges when you set it up.

      • this is what I was trying to avoid… How do large shopping centres as an example offer wifi? I would think they would have extenders / repeaters? Just ideally want to only have one wifi network that laptop connects to rather than having to manually change to the other when signal gets low.

        • They use access points, not repeaters or extenders.

Their access points can be wired or wireless, and they can operate in WDS configuration, although more recent developments have seen the mesh config come into play.

    • Just get a wireless access point. Doesn't need to be a router.

      • Don't these make the rest of the network suffer as they are basically 'hogging' the wifi signal? At least that's what I've read

        • Not if they are wired. If they are wireless then its maybe a bit more of a mesh network\repeater. Then yes

    • Get the TP-Link TL-MR3020 edit $41.58

I have used it as a wireless extender works perfectly.

    • You could connect a Ubiquiti Unifi, ~$130.

    • Look at this:
      http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/details/cat-18_TL-WPA4220…

Works well (but I do have to reset it often - switch off and then on).

      Here it is at MSY:

  • Anyone have experience with the D-LINK DIR-885L AC3150? Seems like a decent price but mixed reviews…

  • I need a new modem/router for my Optus Cable internet. What is going to be my best bet around $200?

    • You need a router, not a modem. Buy the RT-AC58U and hook it up to your existing cable modem.

      • I have to turn my current modem off and on as it jams up. I'm on my third replacement and it's not just the wifi, my ethernet connected devices lose connection too.

        • Because your in cable you arnt able to buy a new modem. You must get a replacement from your ISP
