Uniden BW3451R 4.3” Video Baby Monitor - $193.25 Delivered or $188.30 in Store @ JB Hi-Fi (Usually $329)

60

I've been doing a lot of research on Baby Monitors as my wife and I wanted to get one for our little girl. This particular model came highly recommended (it won gold for the Australian Mother and Baby Magazine Awards 2016).

I noticed a previous deal on OzBargain (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290277) where it was $244.30. It has now dropped even further to $188.30. This is a fantastic price as it usually retails somewhere between $300 - $330 depending on the store.

An absolute bargain for any mums and dads out there after a baby monitor :-)

  • I've got an older model (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/smart-home/unide…) and the quality has been terrible.

    Issues i've had:

    buttons breaking off

    trouble charging

battery life terrible - give it 2-3 months before it gives you less than 1 hour off-charge

not sure if they've since corrected such issues but monitor doesn't appear to have changed

  • Great price for a good piece of kit by the looks of it. We got the ORICOM SECURE SC850 a few years ago, it doesn't have the ability to record or use an app to view, but its been awesome and has almost all the features of the one in this deal. How many years warranty does it come with?

  • Highly recommend the Motorola MBP36s, which should be $155 after Cashrewards and 5% discount. Great image and sound quality, great reception, and great battery life so far. It's the improved version of the MBP36.

I got a < $100 hikvision security camera and a $2 app (tiny cam pro)

Amazing 3 or 4 MP video quality, insanely good infrared night vision.
Has two way audio, so we can sing her back to bed from another room (or play an audio file)
Has movement detection, which can email us (or an IOT device) when it detects movement IN the cot (but ignores the curtain).
Measure sound levels, records to SD card, etc etc.

We ended up hanging an old tablet on the wall, which the app turns on when movement is detected.
Take our phones in at night, when it's too dark to see her with our eyes, but the cam shows whether she is settled or not after 'hours' of singing.
Photos/Video can be recorded manually (which get saved and shared to a google photo album)

Plus… Its half the cost of this.

    • Which hikvision security camera do you have - would you have a model number?

Does it not require a base unit/server?

I have DS-2CD2432F-IW, but it may be superseded by now.

NVR is not needed. It would give even more features, but it works fine as is.
(Just camera + power plug + Phone app is needed. SD card is a bonus. NVR is extravagant)

  • I would be interested in this if there was a RTSP stream or a way to plug it into Blue Iris.

Does anyone know whether this is possible (or know of any other baby monitors with such capability)?

I could find this potential hint via Googling "rtsp BW3451R", however there are no matches on the linked page, nor a cache option.

  • My solution for baby monitor is to order the Yi camera for AU$100 plus free iphone app. It even can detect baby crying but probably a gimmick. Waiting for delivery, hope it works

There's a 20% off tech sale @ participating ebay stores. See
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/303882

Gadgetcity has it normally at $304 minus $60 (20% off)+ free shipping. I just got one. Delivery was quick.

One thing that bugs me with this monitor is that I can't turn the screen off. You have to wait 2mins in power saving mode. Last thing I want is a lit up room for 2 mins rather than just be able to turn it off (let me know if there's a way). I just want to check to see if bub is fine and then turn the screen off & go back to sleep.
