Kathmandu Shuttle 40L V4 White $90 + Postage or Free C&C @ Kathmandu Online

110

I had a browse of the Kathmandu website after looking at a deal posted about the Litehaul 38L. I found this travel bag - a backpack and cargo bag hybrid for $90 with an RRP of 199. The normal price of the black and purple colours seems to be about 120, however the silver colour has been sitting on clearance at $90 for a while now. Might be worth consideration if you were interested in the Litehaul as well. Some differences that I've found between the two backpacks are the weight (800g Shuttle v 1400g Litehaul - 600g difference, quite a bit if you're only using carry on), the amount of padding on the straps (the Litehaul has a lot more although the Shuttle looks very comfortable as well), and how the bag opens (the zipper for the main compartment is at the back for the Shuttle so just about impossible to open when the Shuttle is been worn, also both open up like a suitcase.) Link to the Kathmandu Litehaul 38L post.

I went with the Litehaul as it seems to be more compatible with my needs - I'm hoping the extra padding means that when I use it on hikes etc. (which is something I like to do when I travel) it'll be more comfortable than a regular strap. If you don't need or find much use with a more padded strap, than the Shuttle might be worth a thought as it's cheaper and less bulky, and from the reviews on Kathmandu, is also very durable, and comfortable. Also the zipper on the back looks like a great deterrent for anyone trying to open your bag while you walk. A cashback of 7% is available from Cashrewards.

I would not recommend using this as a hiking bag unless you only need to carry your water and lunch as the bag doesn't support the weight on your lower back, instead it is supported by your shoulders.

    • but it is 100% great for what they say it should be used for - a "backpack & cargo bag". I have it when I travel and it can pack so much whilst still being compact. Mine is small enough to be considered carry on too, not sure if the posted here is. I always get compliments on this bag because it is so easy to open up and pack things away through the giant opening.

      • Totally agree. My 11 year old daughter used this for a 6 week train journey through Europe - it was perfect. We had mostly 1km walks between train stations and accommodation. Any further, or any more weight it would not have been such a hit. And super easy to pack, nice big outer pocket as well.

I would not recommend using this as a book unless you only need to read the information inside one of the tags as the bag doesn't work as a book as it has no pages and not many words printed on the outside, instead it is more useful for storing books probably.

  • Great cabin bag to bring onboard the plane and 40L capacity is enough to store a lot of stuff. Its great for overnight travels too.
