  • Wow so cheap

    • +10

      Good price, yes.
      Cheap, no.

      • What would be a cheap price (inc gst)?

        • -2

Personally I wouldn't call a $1000+ drone as cheap. Cheap drones are those $100 or less. I call this a good price because it is about $300 less than DJI's RRP, just have to factor in the shipping cost too.

        • +4

@edfoo: yes thanks - I meant cheap price for this drone… not price of a cheap drone…

        • +1

@wolfshooter: This is a good price to buy. Just not sure how much is the shipping cost for you.

        • @edfoo: didn't look into the dick smith deal because my experience with DS/Kogan was that most of their products didn't include GST and I can get GST rebated. Just checked that deal and looks like it included GST (so bummer for me!)… works out to be $1406 inc shipping & gst.

        • +1

          @wolfshooter:

Huh? The DSE/Kogan deal was shipped from inside Australia so full DJI warranty and it included Tax Invoice. The price was $1359.20 Inc GST plus ~$35 back from cash rewards so I don't understand how that deal worked out to $1406 for you?

        • +3

@edfoo: This is a total faceslap respose. A $100 drone is a piece of crap childrens toy. This is a full function, 4K gimballed, GPS, sonar equipped drone. It's probably the best all around quadcopter on the market. No comparison whatsoever. Your analogy is like comparing a Repco Kmart special mountain bike to a Ducati.

        • +1

@wolfshooter: DSE/Kogan issued invoice showing GST as the stock shipped from Melbourne. The delivery however is plagued with delays.

        • @Maverick-au: um, no, this deal worked out at $1406. I missed the dse deal because i thought most of their recent dji gear was grey stock (even if warehoused in and shipped from AU, they sell many products through their HK subsidiary). My fail for not looking into it properly.

        • -1

@Burnertoasty: umm not comparable as one has no engine

        • -4

@moneymoo: yeah and your piece of crap $100 drone has no GPS, what's your point?

        • @OzWizard22: still delayed?

        • @Burnertoasty: Calling it the best drone on the market is so subjective, but agree with everything else you said.

      • capable? yes very
        Flyaways suck though.

        • As well as crashes. That's a risk you have to prepare to accept when flying a drone. All you can do is minimise those risk by following a pre-flight checklist and practice your piloting skill.

        • @edfoo: yup I bought a cheapo Kmart drone to learn and throw about. It's great fun and quite durable compared to the mavic. Different beast though for different use cases.

        • you kinda have to be very mindful about wind conditions, mine struggled to come back and landed in the sea so that's that, let's just say the motors aren't as powerful as Phantom 4s.

        • @enzioFirenze: well yes thats where sports mode comes in, will handle a bit more albeit at reduced battery. P4 has larger motors but has to also carry more weight. Mavic will do about 60-65kmh in sports, phantom about 72 assuming no wind.

Wind at altitude and wind over the water can be quite deceptive. If you need to, fly into the wind in the early part of your journey and come back on the tail wind, better chance of getting the bird back home. Else find a nice spot you can land it and go pickup.

        • @BargainKen: I was very cautious, and didn't even fly far, it just kept drifting to the wind despite my best efforts in sports mode as well.

        • @enzioFirenze: altitude?

        • @BargainKen: tried that too, it was around 20m from the cliff I sent it from, should have been around 45m from sea.

      • Very cheap for what it is

    • +1

      THANKS OP bought 10

  • GST invoice included for TRS?

    • Out of the reach of the feds

    • I thought the Lightbridge signal only has several kilometres distance, now I know it actually has several thousand kilometres :p

    • I hope the Do!

    • Better sending the users with the drones' data together to China for a free holiday.

      • And they will you fly with United Airlines.

        • I wish not ;(

    • Great! Now I can send messages home to my uncle for free.

  • +2

    interesting ..

    • Indeed.

  • +2

Bought one from these guys in Feb from eBay. Customer service is fantastic + got express delivered next day to regional NSW.

    • +1

Mind to share some of the videos you shot (if you did) with us? Better to see raw, unedited clips before one pulls the trigger on these drones, as the "pro" YouTubers' videos are highly edited and can be deceiving.

      • +2

took one to the blue mountains on friday. The footage is actually what you would see on the youtube videos. check out 'ed ricker vlogs' on youtube.
Only thing is you have to pan super slow otherwise it gets pretty choppy. Although I assume thats to do with shutter speed on a bright day.
Bought some ND/PL filters which may help lower that. have to wait a few weeks for them to get to me though.

        • Ta. Will check that channel later.

        • You're allowed to fly around Blue Mountains? A lot of public places, you can't fly a drone. I live in Sydney and is searching a nice place to fly it.

        • +1

@ZZE123: keep 30m away from people and buildings and dont fly in no fly zones. Amd keep it within line of site. Hiked around a trail until i found a lookout where no-one was around and aeay i went

      • I just got back from Europe 3 days ago ,and haven't had time to edit much ,but have put a few stills and video up on instagram. Takes a bit of practice to get good shots, but i'm mighty impressed at the footage I've got so far.

  • -2

if you can pickup, this is an okay deal

    • +1

Why not gt it to fly to your house?

  • Yeah no pickup :(

  • OP any deals on the fly more kit?

    • Flymore kit is good but the main draw card is the batteries. There's a lot of stuff in the kit I dont use much. The case is OK but very tight for the mavic, im afraid it'll break its that tight. Worse part is it goes in gimball first. Car charger handy but I haven't used it yet. Charging HUB is ok but only charges one battery at a time, there's an aftermarket charger that can do all 3 batteries at once. There's also a little mavic battery to USB so you can use it to charge your phone/controller, but I just use a cheap powerbank for that duty.

    • +1

Lightake has batteries for US$81 (~AU$107) and the three way charger for US$35, express shipping took ~4 business days and is ~US$12. I have a battery from them and can confirm it's a genuine DJI.

Make sure you've got a phone compatible with the (rubbish) DJI 4 app. Some others may work, but it's a risk:

ios: iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPod touch 6, iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 4 Wi-Fi + Cellular. This app is optimized for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Android: Samsung S7 edge, Samsung S7, Samsung S6, Samsung S5, Samsung NOTE4, Samsung NOTE3, Samsung tabs 705c, Ascend Mate 9, Ascend Mate 7, Huawei Honor 8, Huawei P8 Max, Vivo X7, Xiaomi 5, MI 3, Google Nexus 6p, Nexus 9, Google Nexus 7 II, LG V20, Sony Xperia Z3, Smartisan T1.

    • even with a compatible phone, expect the app to crash at least once per use. I'm 3 for 3 currently.

      • +4

Get an iOS device if you don't want it to crash.

          @Olliethechum:

Over the last year DJI has been very well aware of the issues with Android (not just for Mavic, but all DJI drones) but won't address the known bugs with the Android version of DJI Go (including adding significant video lag/stuttering).

There's hundreds of threads on the DJI forums of people complaining about it and the best advice posted seems to always be to get an iOS device - as DJI don't seem to care about the Android bugs.

I would love a version that would work on my Surface Pro but that will never happen.

        • @c0balt:
Would bluestacks work with the SP? I have one too but havent tried it out. Saw it worked 2014/15 but may not be compatible anymore

        • @Olliethechum:

Nah, too many issues with it. Similar story using LonelyScreen as an Airplay/Chromecast receiver to cast the picture over to the Surface Pro using a portable hotspot router without it stuttering a lot.

FPV goggles are no where in sight either.

I'd really like a way to get a 2nd screen (FPV or monitor) out of the device like the Phantom series have.

        • @c0balt: litchi app has FPV. compatible with Mavic too.

        • @Olliethechum:

I need it as a 2nd screen - passenger app.

I wouldn't purchase Litchi based on principal as it's really expensive. It's $40 just to split the screen in two so that half resolution goes to each eye. I'd rather just get a set of FPV goggles that uses the whole screen per eye (don't need stereoscopic 3D on a drone that lacks it).

Could purchase a set of FPV goggles for the price of the app, take out the 5" screen and put in your phone. That way the user will also be making use of the full resolution of their phone rather than halving it and have a set of goggles too (spare screen also) all for around the same price.

      • Originally I was using an android nvidia shield which after some updates app was rubbish and kept crashing moved to an iPad Pro and been working perfect even since. Android is known to be crap with DJI Go iOS runs great.

    • Totally agree, I had to return the DJI Osmo Mobile as the app on Android was rubbish, it basically made the osmo an incomplete product riddled with bugs

    • I have been flying my P3A with DJI GO app (on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2) for nearly a hundred flights now, it has been very stable for me that I don't have to use Litchi.

    • I had alot of issues with my Pixel XL and the DJI4 app, however since switching to a iPad mini 2 I have not had a single app crash and it actually runs better than it did on the Pixel, I am somewhat flummoxed but don't mind because the ipad mini JUST fits in the controller and is a much better experience overall due to the larger screen size.

    • Thanks for this post - A risk I'm not willing to take with my HTC One M8.

  • any offers for free shipping?

    • +2

basicvalue with 5% off coupon. They actually send aus stock from melb. got mine 2 days after ordering.

Although theres the risk of no store warranty…

      • ty!

        • make sure you ask for Aus stock in checkout message if you do buy.

        • @Olliethechum:

          There's two listings:
          AU Stock specific, $1599
Does not say AU Stock, $1383 converted

Are you sure you can buy the one in USD and then get them to send from melb!?

If so, the FlyMore Combo from the same seller would be awesome :O

        • +1

@cwongtech: Then customs hits you with 10% GST because it is from overseas.

        • +1

          @pbear:

Then customs hits you with 10% GST because it is from overseas.

Yep, but Ollie is claiming that with the listing you're able to request AU stock even with just buying the cheaper listing.
If that's the case it's pretty much grey import price but with local stock price (on sale too!)

        • +1

@cwongtech: I actually got the flymore combo for $1750 (rough conversion from usd) inc 5% off ex 3% cash rewards last month. Can confirm aus stock (au plug and AU on sticker code). But as mentioned, be wary of warranty. I bought the DJI replacement warranty after I got it, was like an extra 170 from DJI direct. although they have that 10% off over easter… probably a good idea if you wanted to get it.

I gave the link for the general mavic because thats what was asked.

          Edit; no 10% over easter

        • +1

@pbear: Confirming no GST. arrived by auspost from melb

edit: Should say GST included in purchase price

        • @Olliethechum: Is the 10% offer advertised? I can't see it on their website. (For DJI care)

        • @leyton01: Ahh, sorry, I miss read a deal posted for DJ store… Although, DJI store has 5% cashrewards. There's a student discount, but last i checked that doesn't apply to mavic pro.

        • @Olliethechum: So you received a tax invoice showing the GST amount (aroung $159)? Or you just paid $1750 which may have/may not have included GST?

        • +2

@wolfshooter: no invoice, no itemised GST, only paypal receipt. so if TRS was what you were aiming for, it may not be worthwhile.

        • @Olliethechum: yes ok - I'm registered for GST so that tax invoice makes a big difference. Thanks for confirming!

  • Any deals on batteries ? Found deals for $120 on ebay might grab one more from there unless you can offer a better price.

  • its 999 in U.S, so 1400ish is what it should be at the first place?

  • price showing as $1616.60 ?

  • bah! price just jumped back up!

  • SOLD OUT

    But

DJI Mavic Pro - Fly More Combo + FREE 64GB Micro SD Memory Card

    AU $1,998.00 Inc GST

    https://www.camerasdirect.com.au/dji-drones-osmo/dji-mavic-p…

  • Good deal, any deals from you guys on the flymore pack coming up? Can the Mavic run on the older DJI Go app? After having a horrible crash on the 3.1.2 app after 100 trouble free flights on the old app due to latency on the forced upgraded I downgraded to 2.9.1 and did the "JSON" hack which prevents the app from needing the forced upgrade. (See phantompilots)

At low flying height (2M) in a deserted park, the drone clipped a low branch due to app latency and then the app crashed and the drone basically went haywire and destroyed itself after actually landing on its legs initially!

  • We can do this but stock will be a few days https://www.camerasdirect.com.au/dji-mavic-pro $1493

  • Now DJI Mavic Pro - Fly More Combo + FREE 64GB Micro SD Memory Card AU $1,998.00 Inc GST

DJI Warranty via CR Kennedy .. all good and DJI Care Refresh - Mavic Pro $168.95 is also available - see the page

    12 ONLY.

  • so stock is available at $1493 and the limited stock was $1388 no more?

    • All non combo have gone - in fact we have taken a combo apart to meet needs.

  • Is there still interest in the fly more with 64gb Micro ?

    • If you guys had ZipMoney with 6M Interest free I'd certainly get it - Birthday present for me :).

    • Oh and yes you have 'Once' for 6M interest free but they wanted far too many details, including the wife's financials, so no go on that one.

    • +1

Most are interested in the basic unit as I am. $2,000 is out of most peoples budget.

I'll buy a basic unit once another comes up and I can catch it before sold out, which I'm not having much luck with.
