Frozen Onion Rings 1kg $1.97 @ Costco (Moorabbin VIC - Membership Required)

130

Was at Costco Moorabbin today and they had 1kg of onion rings for $1.97. Think it's a clearance so not sure it's nationwide.

Scanned at $4.97, but the guy at the counter said they were $12, then 4.97, then 3.97 and now at the low low price of $1.97.

Haven't cooked them up so no idea if it's any good but hey for that price…

These are great, were disappointed the Bird's Eye rings were made in the Netherlands.

    • You don't like the Dutch ?

      • Buy Australian.

Bird's Eye ones are disgusting. A mush of onions shaped into a ring and battered. Are these actual rings of whole onion, battered?

ive had these a while ago, they use real onions sliced up, coated in beer batter which from memory was mildly spicy too, and when they say XXL size, they mean it!

They appear to be battered… :(

    Nice deal!
One question though are they real rings of sliced Onion or rings of chopped up onion and filler pressed into rings like birdseye?
those birdseye ones barely tasted Onion-y at all.

When you say sliced up you mean a solid ring or onion like one could make homemade? If so thats great I'll have to buy some next time I go to a costco. Hopefully this item isn't seasonal or a limited item.

        • If you do miss out on these, you'll have to make them yourself, which will probably make you cry!

solid piece of real onion, none of that extruded mushy crap. if your keen to try them id suggest getting down asap as items ending in .97 are a clearance item and considering it has already had a number of higher price reductions (i.e. $4.97, $3.97) id say stocks are getting low and they are gutting the price to move them out fast.

  • Is this in the Brisbane Costco too?

  • Would be short-dated to expire within a day or three.
Not surprised these are on clearance as was always puzzled why onion rings were more expensive than mozzarella sticks.
For under $2, I'll get a packet or 2 when I go tomorrow.

  • How do you cook them? Are there a few options or can you only use an oven?

    • +6

Why cook them? Tony Abbott eats his onions raw. Plus, eating them raw saves on your power or gas bill.

    • Fry pan, deep fry, oven. Lots of options! Doesn't really matter.
