    I am sure it is the archive drive inside. Not ideal for NAS.

  Does it need to be connected to a Computer (PC/Mac) to operate? Which means the workstation needs to be on for the hard drive to be accessible by other devices on the network? Or is there a way to make it accessible on the LAN without a host computer (turned on) ?

  i.e. The name "Hub" makes me wonder if it is accessible by other devices without a computer host.

    Hub refers to the two USB 3.0 ports.

    You need to power it from a computer, but if your router supports USB you can attach it as network storage as well, making it available to the whole network.

    Not worth it. These externals are hard to crack open, and you lose the warranty.
