Yet they can't manage an internal for this price!?

  • Sweet time to throw some more storage into the nas.

I am sure it is the archive drive inside. Not ideal for NAS.

  • Does it need to be connected to a Computer (PC/Mac) to operate? Which means the workstation needs to be on for the hard drive to be accessible by other devices on the network? Or is there a way to make it accessible on the LAN without a host computer (turned on) ?

i.e. The name "Hub" makes me wonder if it is accessible by other devices without a computer host.

Hub refers to the two USB 3.0 ports.

You need to power it from a computer, but if your router supports USB you can attach it as network storage as well, making it available to the whole network.

      • Thank you.

  • Great find!
Bit "Ouch" for me - bought 2 just a week ago, one arrived today… for $183 and $189.
    Oh well…

  • how dos the WD drive compare ?

  • can you shuck it?

    • Not worth it. These externals are hard to crack open, and you lose the warranty.
