Ivacy is now available through StackSocial at just US$29.95 for a lifetime pass:

However, when looking them up on the internet, I came across this damning review from Shurf:

https://www.vpnmentor.com/reviews/ivacy-vpn/#

The website that has the review hold Nord in high regard and I found a coupon code, "2YSpecial2017" that allows me to get it for $3.29/month on a 2 year contract.

https://nordvpn.com/en/checkout/?2year&coupon=2YSpecial2017

The two can be easily compared with this spreadsheet:

https://thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn-comparison-chart/

If all of the features on Ivacy work as they should, Ivacy seems like a bargain. Although much more expensive, Nord still seems like a bargain too. lol. I wasn't sure which one to choose for myself so thought I would post them both here.

Will you have faith that Ivacy will fix alleged issues and give you a lifetime of good quality yet cheap VPN? Or will you go for what is touted as the best and is really not that expensive anyway?

Happy secure surfing :)

You can't have a lifetime VPN and have it actually be any good. The business model is flawed.

    • If you compare the data on the spreadsheet, it does look very good. Better than Nord in some areas. Apparently they have servers in over 50 countries now so better than Nord in that regard.

      • There is no guarantee this will maintain the same in the future because they wouldn't make enough money to sustain itself

        • the "lifetime" offer is only for a very limtited time. The idea would be to draw in people that can tell other how happy they are with the service then get others to join at a more sustainable rate.

      The business model is flawed.

      It's a great business model.

      1. Get as many people to sign up in a short period of time.
      2. Go out of business.
      3. Run off with money.

Ivacy just resells PureVPN anyways, and occasionally their ip geolocation is a bit wonky for Asian countries (Some Korean IPs geolocation is singapore/Hong Kong) but not a big issue. Haven't tried them for anything like downloading Linux ISOs since I've mainly used it to stream Korean TV.

Happy to do a few speed tests if you want.
Btw: Ivacy doesn't get good reviews on reddit - See here and here

    • It was the complaint about the killswitch not working that had me worried. I hope that's not true or that they have fixed it.

I'll see if I can trigger it tonight, should just involve me turning the killswitch on, then messing with the adapter or manually turning the vpn off (Will try on Windows 10)

        • Thank you :) Be sure to close your torrenting apps before you do ;)

          @RickyJ: I don't torrent at home since I have a seedbox :)

Note, all of this was done on Win10 Pro and Ivacy Beta client v 4.2.0.0

But to the point of the killswitch & using the Ivacy Beta client, it doesn't really work. It'll kill the current stream, so when I did

           curl 10Gb.dat > /dev/null

and turned off the VPN to bring up the killswitch dialog, it killed the stream. BUT when I was playing a rtmp stream on PotPlayer and turned off the VPN to bring up the killswitch, it restarted the stream.
Also tried with a Ubuntu 17.04 torrent. It would "kill" the current stream and the speed would drop to 0, but it would just reconnect and come back up.

I'll try the non-beta client to see if it has the same issue eventually, but the killswitch isnt too much of a concern.

    • I've read a few posts on this site saying that Ivacy is reselling PureVPN but there are a few differences when you compare the two on the linked spreadsheet.

  • Stacksocial uses misleading Facebook ads and refuses to refund under any circumstances

Ivacy was an ok VPN for the few months I used it - however their osx client is unstable (silently loses connection after a few hours)

    • "silently loses connection" doesn't sound good. Does that mean that the killswitch didn't work? How long ago did you have that experience?

      • +1

Unfortunately the osx client doesn't have a kill switch. The work around was to bind your torrent client to the VPN interface.

The was about 1.5 months ago with the osx Sierra client

Anyone considering a VPN should read this:

The importance of trust and integrity in a VPN provider

    https://www.troyhunt.com/the-importance-of-trust-and-integri…

    • I wouldn't trust anyone to handle terabytes of sensitive data (as time progresses) for more than a year at $40. Let alone to provide that service for years. If they're charging that little then they're probably selling off the data or aren't actually providing a service.

      • It's a limited time offer for those that sign up now. It's not going to be cheap for everyone forever.

  • Not sure if its their client or Windows-10, pretty difficult to disguise DNS
    I cancelled yesterday
