      Some of us still have parents in countries where mobile internet is very expensive and the parents are too old for home internet setup and maintenance. It is cheaper to skype

    Skype is useful for overseas calls to regular mobile and landline numbers at cheaper tariff than direct dial. can't use FB, WhatsApp and other instant messenger services for that. At 50% off makes it a good deal.

      Exactly. Had to resort to this in my recent trip to the US when I found out their most popular tourist SIM (T-mobile) doesn't allow you to make international calls!
