    I had the old version of this TV (early 2009) which just recently died. The 50Hz honestly wasn't all that bad. I played a lot of Xbox on it and watched a fair bit of sports, wasn't really an issue. :)

      Was my understanding it's more just a power grid frequency thing, in Australia 50fps (or more so 25fps) is common as our grid is 50hz so 50hz may even be better?

      No. It's more to do with how HDTV is broadcast in Australia. The minimum HDTV standard is 576p50 (576 vertical pixels at 50 frames per second) and some Aussie FTA channels just got an update to 1080i50 (1080 interlaced at 50fps)
      
      This TV may actually do 60hz. It might just do 50fps when it's in TV mode, but it could switch over to a more standard 60 hz when you use it in game mode or PC mode (if it has such a thing). But, according to the specs @ Samsung, the motion rate is advertised at 50.
