Great value but factor in a sound bar to get decent audio.

    $499 is cheap for a 65.
I see alot of bad reviews for these android EKO and related brand TVs.
Good guys has this 70" linsar that might be better? Also linsar lists 3 year warranty.

They are ok if you are getting a Google tv device to go with it because the built in one is so slow, I've never seen a lag on volume controls before ( note this was an older model tv and they might be better now)

      • +1

Need to compare model to model with EKO, I have a 55" in the bedroom and its pretty speedy and has good sound.

    • +3

$100 for an extra 5 inches and 2 years of warranty is definitely worth it, plus the Linsar has decent reviews. This is the real deal here.

    Have this TV…. Never again.

It's borderline unusable, even just as a dumb screen. The native smart stuff is so slow and unstable that you might as well forget it, but even just using it with a separate Chromecast attached is painful. It doesn't seem to go to low power correctly, so if it's been off for a week or two there's a good chance you'll need to turn it off/on at the wall and wait the 3-4 minutes for it to boot up before you can switch to HDMI.

Ohhh and everything you've seen about the sound is right. It's atrocious.

  • Spend the extra money and get a proper brand, these TVs will die in 2 years and the picture is diabolical.

Eofy deals will continue to roll out and you will be able to get a crazy deal soon enough. This ain't it tho!

Trust me when I say this, it's always worth spending the extra money on a TV you're gonna use daily, an extra $150 will be nothing in the long run. The difference between this TV and a Samsung/LG/shit even Hisense TV picture quality is massive.

And you'll be able to get one of those brands for a similar enough price (maybe an older model but still will be better than this TV) in the next couple weeks.

  • Our eko started humming and the wifi constantly dropped out. I wouldn't recommend it

  • I got one of these about five years ago. I'm sure they've been updated since then, but the one I have has the WORST software imaginable. It will lockup for long periods of time, randomly change channels, and the EPG takes eons to load. Even using it with a chromecast isn't much better as it will still randomly lockup while switching to the chromecast.

My kid broke my 2020 Q80T, parents and family said I should get one of these, then quickly tuned out when they heard "Full-Array".

I bought a S90D. If that doesn't make my point nothing will 😅

    65" 4k TCL television for $600.

This is a much better television for a similar price, please don't buy an EKO television. Maybe look around a bit more, because this didnt take me too long to find!

But the carton is damaged :(
What use is a fancy quality tv if you can't use the box as a child's bed

Looks similar to the clearance Soniqs from a couple months ago. I picked one of those up for $300, great deal. I'll mention that it's my first large, 4K tv, replacing a ~10year old 37" 1080p.
Screen quality is fine, the backlighting on black screens is a bit crap, highly visible and patchy. And the google tv works well enough (for Stremio) that I disconnected my Fire stick 4k max.

If this is like that and your standards are as low as mine, it's probably decent. And also probably worth spending another $150 or so for an actual brand that might have less terrible backlighting.

  • I have this TV from afew years ago from BigW for $600.
It's so slow to respond to commands.
Even on external Chromecast and AppleTV it would randomly freeze and not responde and I'd have to do cold shutdown and restart every week or so.
    Never again.

    • There's a 70 inch JVC on bigW for $700. Some cashback / gift card shenanigans can bring that down.

  • +2

I've had an EKO 65" since 2021 which I paid $579 for. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've had no issues with it. We use an external Chromecast with it, so maybe that's the key.

For the price, I've got no complaints.

    • I got mine around about that time as well. The colours out of the box aren't great and require some tweaking to get right. The UI occasionally slows down, but a reboot resolves the issue (you can long-press the power button on the remote to access the reboot menu).

I keep meaning to replace it with something better, but it just keeps chugging along and like the money in my pocket more than I dislike the TV :)

    • Mine is still chugging along as well.

The update to Android made it much worse in terms of speed, usability etc.

I factory reset the TV, didn't connect to WiFi or network, removed what I could and it now works fine.

  • Any energy use data?

    • +1

mine is 0 energy use at it just doesn't switch on, and when it does, half screen works so it just stays off.

  • +1

I had an Eko once, probably won't go there again. Plagued by phantom turn ons, had to do a hard off each time. Interface was super laggy. Tolerated the bottom third of the screen occasionally disappearing for a period of time. Eventually I joined team TCL and have never looked back!

  • Been using this tv for a few years now. Its been fine and I don't have any speed issues with it, actually faster than the Sony it replaced.
Works fine with streamio and 4k content.

The one tip is to actually fully shut it down not just standby each time.

    • This is the way.

Also turn down the backlight as low as you can go but still be happy with the picture.

No lag, tv will last forever (based on I've never had a TV die…ever).

As for speakers. Check your local ecycle yard etc. People are throwing out 5.1 / 7.2 systems by the hundreds. Offer em $10.

I got a Sony Muteki 6.2 system for nothing.

I’m still rocking a Pioneer Plasma from 10
    Years ago.
Delivery and installation was included back in the day
    Integrated sound is perfect.
Also doubles as a heater on cold nights.

    This thing will never die.

    • +1

Need a solar panel system to run it during the day.

    • think mines older than 10

  • avoid. this will last a year if you are lucky. Both of mine went crap, one with blue screen and i took it to Big W dropped it at their returns counter and got all the money back. The second one is failing but just couldn't be arsed to drag it into the store. Got full refund for first and got over a years use for both, so in my mind I accepted a 50% refund for each.

  • +1

Exactly the same as Logical, bought one in 2022 and it lasted a year before the backlight gave out. Replaced it at Big W, then that one wouldn't turn on after another 18 months.
It was fine to use until then (with an Xbox, don't bother with any native smart features), but it's just not worth the hassle.

  • I've had a 55" and bought my parents a 65" about 4 years ago. Mine has had heavy use and never had an issue. My parents is maybe a little slower but still runs pretty smooth.

Just feel I'd add cos these always seem to get a pretty raw run on here. Picture for me anyway is pretty decent for the price.

  • +1

I have used two EKO TV one with Google TV and the other is LG WebOS. Yes the Google TV version is slow but the WebOS version is very snappy.
I find it a very reliable TV and I can not complain about picture quality for the value.

Any issues with the TV you can return as BIG W is pretty got with returns UnLike TGG or JB or HN who will never accept returns.

I can not comment about Linsar as I never had one.

But TCL 65" for $200 more or TCL 75" for $300 more is a great deal. I you had the budget I would buy TCL

Got the same TV back in Jan-21 (for $699), I've been using it with the Nvidia Shield the whole time and it's been great. Sound bar would be a nice addition but can't complain!
